Kix, I have the same problem C2 and OpenGl on PC, it's not just you. I think mine is a little worse. I get that screen, the machine locks up and then XP tells me that nv4disp.drv(the Nvidia video driver) has gone into an infinite loop and reboots the machine. I stick with the DirectX, or software. They are a lot more stable. Eric Winemiller Digital Carvers Guild Freeware and commercial 3D extensions http://digitalcarversguild.com

"now I find the soft shadows thing." Do you mean the bad quality of soft shadows with the default rendering settings ? In this case it's not a bug : you'll have to set an Object Accuracy of 1 or 0.5 to get good quality of soft shadows and highlights . An Object Accuracy of 2 or 4 will speed the render for your render tests . litst
I am running the latested drivers, still have the problem. Eric

I am not sure but these bugs might be only present on the Wintel platform. I know that Open GL is extensively supported under OS X so I guess there isn't a problem. About the particles I am not sure. I am still weighting for my upgrade to C2 to be delivered. I was just curious to see if the bugs are cross platform.
Kix, how do you get the little yellow faces in you posts??

Aha! Finally somebody asked about the emoticons.-Kix
These openGL issues sure sounds like a driver or conflict issue. If drivers arent perfect, Windows has this irritating habit of corrupting displays or causing other little nusance things to happen. Well I guess if it didn't I would be out of a job! ;-) Anyway, If you have the latest drivers installed, the nv file refrenced is a nvidia file, then you may want to make sure you have the latest drivers for all your system components, especially the AMD people. Intel systems, for the most part get Microsoft built in drivers. AMD systems often require drivers for various busses and crap on the main board. These could be conflicting with something. Also check the bios and make sure you are using the default settings for AGP buffering etc. You may want to check with other AMD users to see what settings they are using. Update your Windows. Go to the Windows Update site and make sure you have all relevant updates. Do not update any device drivers though for video, as they will not be as good as the Manufacturers latest. If I think of more things, I will comment again... Regards, Paul
Oh yeah, for the people asking about OSX. If this does turn out to be a driver/system issue (which chances are it is) then this will not affect OS X. I have OSX with OpenGL enabled and it is awesome! And since the OpenGL portions of the C2 code are likely different for Mac vs Win then it is even less likely that this would be a bug in both... Paul
PAGZone, that's what I was thinking too. I guess one of the advantages of having a Mac over a PC is that this kind of stuff just doesn't happen that often, and if it does, it is ironed out fairly quickly by Apple. When it comes to Video, I have never had a problem like what's been described on a Mac. It's the advantage of having the software and the hardware under one roof.
Oh Yeah... gotta love the mac! But I do wish they were cheaper. I mean $3000 for a dual 1ghz? A Pentium 2.2 ghz is about $1500..... I know Apples to Oranges (no pun intended) and the G4 is a Majorly fast Processor even compared to the top P4. But still, imagine wear Apple would be if they sold their top of the line PowerMac for $1500!!! They would not be able to make enough! Regards, Paul
I mean $3000 for a dual 1ghz? A Pentium 2.2 ghz is about $1500.. yaa seems like a big diff... but look at what yopu are getting ... #1 It apple.. good stuff.. (even better since the bought out power computing's hardware designs/factory etc) #2 larger/faster hard drive... #3 NiVidia GeForce 4 standard... not some 16 meg cheapy out dated video card #4 512 Megs ram (when you buy at most places they give you it free) not 128 #5 SUPER DRIVE.. not just a a CDRW #6 faster/more ethernet, USB,firewire ports #7and all important... STABLE!!! OSX!!!!! not crashes!! (though i have had Maya PLE take mine down a few times... nothing else has) yes i'm a Mac person.. I use PC, Macs, Linux fairly regular. I will always use a Mac when ever posible!! they are worth the extra $$$$ now more than ever, the time i save by not rebooting like windows and mac OS9 does is worth it. I like linux... but don't want to learn another language, I have a hard enough time with english.... LOL ok all done, ranting and raving LOLOL
