Curious Labs is planning to be at Siggraph, and I am among those slated to go. I look forward to meeting everyone who stops by our booth! Anthony Hernandez Documentation Manager Curious LabsAnthony, And those of us who can't go will be standing by with bated breath. I'd sigh, but that is hard to do while you're not breathing. ;^) We'll hope that it is a successful convention all around, and that someone logs in from the show with any tasty tidbits or substantial rumors. If there is an unveiling, it will be interesting to see who can get the news out first. Pictures would be good, too. Digicam, anyone? Carolly
Profesional trade shows are expensive... and getting there is only part of the overhead. Between Game Developers', Origins, and WorldCon I don't have much budget left. However, even if you can't confirm or deny anything, you will be photographing people with broad smiles who are happy to be there. Hmmm... If I was unveiling something, I'd have 7 veils of the sparkly distracting sort and an attractive model under them holding the package. But, being a technical trade show filled with serious programmers, I am quite sure that there won't be booth babes or such distractions anywhere on the show floor. ;^) Carolly
UK trapped here, I didn't go last year and I can't go this year, actually I never heard of siggraph till this year but what does that matter, I hope it's a big success for everyone who's there showing their stuff and all who go along, we who won't be going want pictures and movies and lots of info and if there's digital freebies we won't say no to them either ;). Rob
Anthony, Don't think about the 85,000 frenzied artists looking over your shoulder and drooling (when they aren't passing out from excitement). After all, virtual drool doesn't get into the camera controls. A long shot of the booth all set up (before the doors to the exhibit hall open and you can see the booth) followed by a cramped shot of people's backs as they crowd around would make a nice comparison. Of course we want to see a close-up or clean shot of anything interesting on monitor or box. However, I think that the most important images would be smiling faces of the CuriousLab Rats (with identifying captions). Don't forget to have someone take a picture of you, too! I like having someone's image in mind when exchanging emails or phone calls... and this community is more closely bound than most product/consumer relationships. During tear-down after the Chicago WorldCon, a friend snapped a picture of me lying on my dealer's table like a dead thing. Someone else had dropped a bouquet of flowers on me, and I hadn't the energy to open my eyes. As to booth babes, 2 years ago at Origins a lady wearing a peacock blue chain mail dress and nothing under it was walking around, and the year before that, TSR's "helpers" wore chain mail bikinis with nothing under them, either. I don't know how much attention their products got. ;^) Carolly
Carolly... I love you. But this isn't news to you. Because of our special bond, I feel I can be perfectly candid with you: Me in ANY outfit involving "no underwear" is a concept that fills me with unspeakable dread and I shudder to think about those forced to witness such a thing. Actually, the truth is I'm so hot that baring anything might distract the crowds from what they came to see. Dang, will people EVER get tired of seeing me demo Poser 4 demo? 85,000 drooling artists? You assume there will be something for them to be drooling over (besides me, of course :-)). Come to think of it, though, absorbent terry cloth epaulets are probably not a bad idea. I am so looking forward to Siggraph! :-) Anthony
Kupa, Just be glad that you won't be the one under 7 veils! Showrooms are hot enough. Also be glad that you've got a crew to help. I was a sole proprietor for 16 years: long hours, no breaks. It was better if I had something new to display and talk about (it kept the energy level up), but in any case talking and listening are both hard work. Anthony, Aw shucks, I love you, too, so I'll pass on this tip: soldered rings in the chain mail. Pay the extra cost, especially if you might possibly sit down at some point, even if absent-mindedly. Note: that you don't actually have to have something new to display. If there is a circle of backs, anybody outside the circle will be too curious to simply walk by... wait for the crowd to accrete, THEN shoot the picture. Terry cloth epaulettes? With nice absorbant fringe? That's another costume idea! Gryffnn, There is a male pin-up contest running right now, but I suspect that the males from CL would evaporate in a blush-pink mist if I walked around with a camera and a smile. ;^) Carolly
One thing I can't understand... when roleplaying with a group of guys, they will load themselves down with a dozen or more spikes each (and accept the encumbrance penalties), "just in case" they want to spike a door or something. We usually don't encounter closable doors. And if we do, my characters prefer to leave the doors and passages open for maximum mobility and choice of routes. It would be embarrassing (or worse) to be delayed by an obstacle set by oneself. (Dungeon delving is like rock climbing... if you can't extricate yourself, you have no business being there.) Maybe there is a spike wielder here who can justify this preoccupation with carrying them around? Carolly
I cant be there
but SIGGRAPH will be VERY interesting
for "certain enthusiasts"
indeed "-)
