HI all i bought the kubrick/spielburg " AI " ( artificial intelligence) DVD yesterday and while watching the "making of" content DVD i spotted some familiar figures in ILM's previsualization footage.

the default P4 boy and most likely "Dork" on the left.

who says poser is only for amatures:-)

Cool i'll have to check that out later :o)....have you watched the previsualization footage on "the 6th day" dvd that either uses poser figures exported or the ones from zygote that are poser figures but cost lots :o)....btw did you like the movie?.....Steve

Ohh!! I better pop in sixth day and look for that.

On , AI it was a bit " Syrupy" for my tastes and i generally dont care for films with "cute kids" in the lead role but it held my attention :-)

personally i would have liked to have seen more of the
2000 years later frozen earth with cool aliens stuff!!.

The developers of Jet Li's The One used Poser for pre-vis of some of the more complex fight sequences. Unfortunately, the special features section of the DVD doesn't show much of it, although there is an amusing pre-vis of the police motorcycle scene using GI-Joe action figures.

And, in the book, "The Art of Star Wars: Episode II- Attack of the Clones" (by Mark Cotta Vaz), there are a number of pre-visualization scenes that include Poser people! If you know what the people look like, it's very easy to spot. My scanner's doing funny things right now and I can't scan it in, but there are a number of Poser-people sightings! The guys are wearing the distinctive Poser hairstyles! Page 196: "blue guy" in background Page 187: "animatic" for the "interior cargo ship to Naboo" scene- guy walking around and guys sitting Of course, the question is: why shouldn't they use Poser? Sure, they have access to high-high end animation and rendering software, but if you need a quick animatic/ storyboard scene with people, just load up Poser, load in people, and you're done! --John

You're absolutely right about "The Art of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones". But I do think you meant page 197, John. There's been a lot of Poser bashing of late, and this kind of proof just brushes all of that aside. LOL! ILM has spoken, they use Poser.

Umm... Sort of. Let's be VERY careful about how victorious we feel. They use Poser to do a quick test - and they certainly could do it in the high end stuff if the wanted. To simply claim that "ILM uses Poser" is misleading - it seems to imply the use Poser for their production renders - something that is clearly false. Thos who know the biz, especially those who look down on Poser will not be at all swayed by a spurious claim that ILM "uses poser" without any qualification.

soulhuntre, I realy think you are misunderstanding the intent of this thread, noone claims that ILM is using poser for high end production work, they are just getting a kick out of the fact that a company which does so much leading edge CG production would utalize poser in any aspect of their production, It is not a "spurious claim" the use was quite spacificly spelled out in the posts. I for one find it interesting that a company with such resources uses at any level a graphics program which I prize for my own creative work.

It's possible :) I have made mistakes before - and if I have here then I apologize :) I do get a kick out of it, I also knwo that many Poser folks are annopyed that they don;t get taken seriously due to their software. having been a veteran of "OS" and "Computer Wars" I know that info like this is often taken out of context to form the basis of a claim... and that caution needs to be used :)

when I'm in the theatre viewin' 'Clones if you happen to be there just don't shout fire ok? does look like a little dork though.

In a preproduction early concept environment
it would be cost prohibitive to pay your MAYA pros
to build rig and animate characters in MAYA
for rough concept animatics that may well be rejected
by the Director. So poser is a perfect solution for this.
