Subject: Newer version than expected???

Philywebrider ( ) posted Thu, 13 June 2002 at 4:33 AM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 4:55 PM

First I had trouble with PNG files, Then I had trouble with P3d0 (my dumbness of course), and now that the PNG is corrected I get the library picts, but when I load the pose I get a message that says "later version than expected, will try again", and I have to click on the message a few times to get the pose to load. Later version? Whats that all about? Can it be fixed. Lost :(

This doesn't matter... ... it happens when the file was created with Propack, or if you are using the Metacreations Poser4 without the update. Open the file in a text editor and change the first line to "version 4.03"... or get the update from Curious labs if you don't have it!!! H:)

Best is to resave the item back to the library. But it's annoying and shouldn't happen.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Thu, 13 June 2002 at 6:42 AM

hogwarden I had put the update version 4.03 in when I installed Poser. If I do it again will it mess up all the stuff I currently have installed, plug-ins etc? I'm sorry to say I don't even know where the "text editor is" Phantast I did as you said and resaved, it worked. Many Thanks for your help, both of you.

You will not lose any of your Poser stuff if you update to version 4.03. Heck, you can even uninstall Poser, and the runtime folder will still exist. Of course, you're better off backing up your runtime folder. "The text editor" depends on what operating system you have. If you have Windows, you have Notepage and Wordpad. Click Start, Programs, Accessories, and go from there. You want to use a "text" editor. Don't use a program that will save the information in another format. (Example MS Word saves to "doc" format. I avoid editing CR2 files. The easiest way to handle this problem is just to resave the stuff. You might want to be very careful what you do. When you save, you'll be asked if you want to save the morph channels. Say NO. You might want to be sure you keep the original pose files as backup in case you make any errors.

Sorry guys... glub I guess I'm so used to hacking the c**p out of my cr2s with notepad I forgot the easy way! LOL! Scrub my comment! resave the figure into your library! Thanks for pulling me up on it. cough Howard:)

Hi ronknights Thanks for the info. I have WindowsXP :( What is an example of the correct "text Editor" I did resave without morphes. Backup is a good idea Thanks again.

I'm sorry. Sometimes I'm not very clear. I recommend using Notepad, or Wordpad if the file is too big for Notepad. If you use Wordpad, be sure to save as text. I know others will recommend other editors. For instance, cr2 edit. Remember I don't edit my cr2s yet. Maybe one day I'll get brave and join the big leagues?!

I believe updating too Poser 4.03 will not fix this particular problem. I usually use Edit Pad lite to fix the file.

Edit pad is just about the best text editor around and it's free. It has a great search and replace feature.

Updating to 4.03 will definately NOt stop the problem. It has never resulted in a crash though, just annoying. The bump maps to jpeg on the other hand have stalled me out several times with XP. My request to merchants-- I know should make it another thread-- don't include bumpmaps in the MATS, let me add them separately. Then I won't lose another setup, when Poser goes crazy. Some people get Pro Pack and forget about the rest of us. Emily that last sentence was too grumpy. Need more caffiene

I now change the version number in all files I post to Free Stuff, as a courtesy for non-ProPack users.

bikermouse ( ) posted Thu, 13 June 2002 at 5:30 PM

re original post: Don't worry about it. I read somewhere that it just means you haven't installed ProPack and the model was created in propack(usually).

ronknights ( ) posted Thu, 13 June 2002 at 10:38 PM

You folks have reminded me that I should use Poser 4.03 to create my faces and poses, instead of Poser Pro Pack. That way I won't cause you any problems. Gosh, it's kind of a let down, but I'd rather make it easier for you!

bikermouse ( ) posted Fri, 14 June 2002 at 12:27 AM

Well so far I haven't noticed a problem with stuff made in propack. The models have installed o.k. even with the warning messeges. I hear if the model's version is listed as LESS THAN 4.03, you're limited as to the format for your bitmaps.(sofar this is just hear say to me as I haven't experienced the problem, but time will tell.) Message671422.jpg - good rendering.

bikermouse ( ) posted Fri, 14 June 2002 at 3:39 AM

update to my last post: Onr of the Poser Forum backroom FAQs say that there's 2 points to remember when sending a file to someone without Propack: 1) if you use a bump map include it as a bitmap file. 2) make a RSR (perhaps using rsrconverter.)

Spit ( ) posted Sun, 23 June 2002 at 8:30 PM

Under XP notepad can load any .CR2 no matter how big. I use it all the time. Poser doesn't crash the system if you cancel out of loading a .bum. It just takes Poser FOREVER to figure it out. I have a 2gz machine and sometimes it can take 30 seconds or more. Just wait...don't do the three finger salute. Not necessary. The 'newer version' message is only an annoyance, not a problem. Just okay the dialog.
