Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 03 12:46 am)
hogwarden I had put the update version 4.03 in when I installed Poser. If I do it again will it mess up all the stuff I currently have installed, plug-ins etc? I'm sorry to say I don't even know where the "text editor is" Phantast I did as you said and resaved, it worked. Many Thanks for your help, both of you.
You will not lose any of your Poser stuff if you update to version 4.03. Heck, you can even uninstall Poser, and the runtime folder will still exist. Of course, you're better off backing up your runtime folder. "The text editor" depends on what operating system you have. If you have Windows, you have Notepage and Wordpad. Click Start, Programs, Accessories, and go from there. You want to use a "text" editor. Don't use a program that will save the information in another format. (Example MS Word saves to "doc" format. I avoid editing CR2 files. The easiest way to handle this problem is just to resave the stuff. You might want to be very careful what you do. When you save, you'll be asked if you want to save the morph channels. Say NO. You might want to be sure you keep the original pose files as backup in case you make any errors.

I believe updating too Poser 4.03 will not fix this particular problem. I usually use Edit Pad lite to fix the file.Edit pad is just about the best text editor around and it's free. It has a great search and replace feature.
Updating to 4.03 will definately NOt stop the problem. It has never resulted in a crash though, just annoying. The bump maps to jpeg on the other hand have stalled me out several times with XP. My request to merchants-- I know should make it another thread-- don't include bumpmaps in the MATS, let me add them separately. Then I won't lose another setup, when Poser goes crazy. Some people get Pro Pack and forget about the rest of us. Emily that last sentence was too grumpy. Need more caffiene
Well so far I haven't noticed a problem with stuff made in propack. The models have installed o.k. even with the warning messeges. I hear if the model's version is listed as LESS THAN 4.03, you're limited as to the format for your bitmaps.(sofar this is just hear say to me as I haven't experienced the problem, but time will tell.) - good rendering.
Under XP notepad can load any .CR2 no matter how big. I use it all the time. Poser doesn't crash the system if you cancel out of loading a .bum. It just takes Poser FOREVER to figure it out. I have a 2gz machine and sometimes it can take 30 seconds or more. Just wait...don't do the three finger salute. Not necessary. The 'newer version' message is only an annoyance, not a problem. Just okay the dialog.

First I had trouble with PNG files, Then I had trouble with P3d0 (my dumbness of course), and now that the PNG is corrected I get the library picts, but when I load the pose I get a message that says "later version than expected, will try again", and I have to click on the message a few times to get the pose to load. Later version? Whats that all about? Can it be fixed. Lost :(
