Subject: How many Xenodream users are there here?

BlueRose ( ) posted Thu, 13 June 2002 at 6:01 AM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 5:45 PM

Just curious, lots of people have mentioned it, usually with a "havent figured it out yet" comment. So how many of us are out there? and Who wants help, tips, ideas and to swap ideas, xeps, presets etc? I hangout in the Xenodream mailing lists, and have posted some of my lighting presets there, but for those who dont/cant/whatever post there, who's interested in a group thing here? Stacey - self confessed XD addict!

Its $69 US and with the exchange rate I paid NZ $189 and think its worth every cent.

I got it about a week ago, but fall into the category of "haven't figured it out yet".

Well I can recommend going in to the help files and doing the Shell Tutorial and then the other one. I did the Shell one first and played quite happily for a few months with that. The second one (name forgotten sorry) teaches you about metamorphs which are really cool!

I will try that, thanks. I have a bad habit of just clicking on stuff until something happens. I think xenodream is going to require a bit more effort. ;)

yes just clicking on stuff (which is how I work too :) gets surprising results) doesnt really work with XD, you need to have a basic idea of what to do THEN randomly clik on stuff :)

XenoDream wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be and am still working in abstracts (which is what I love about fractals ... no one can say, "It doesn't look like a (fill in the blank) to me."). I don't think I will ever get to the stage where I can create images that look like tables, lamps, etc - which I know XD is capable of creating. There are quiet a few presets included with the program. If you open a file, the default folder is called "Starters" (or something like that). But, if you go up a level and open the data folder - each subfolder has more images to play with. If I can help anyone, just shout :)

Hi folks. It's nice to see some familiar faces here - even nicer to see the names of some old friends. Looks like Renderosity is somewhat larger than it used to be. :) Oh yeah. The topic. I'm an XD user too. Don't know if I can help anyone, and I'm not around much, but I can try.

I think I'm probably a semi-user, or something ;-)

I bought it when it was first released, got quite into it, then lost interest a bit while waiting for the update to come out. Now it's here, I just haven't had the time to get going with it again - maybe after the kids' summer holidays I'll give it a go again. My favorite xenodreamer has to be Linda McArthy. Tina

PS welcome to r'sity Sean

Linda's stuff is beautiful, isn't it? In some ways her personal style is more recognizable than many other XD artists.

Thanks for the welcome, BTW. I was here for a while as Space-Guy but that name is associated with a site which no longer exists, so I started this account instead and will slowly be moving the few pictures from that account to this one.

May I suggest taking a look at some of the Tips and Tutorials I have started at one of my web sites, if you are interested. They are not complete yet (since I always find new things to add), but they may be helpful in some areas: http://66.39.71.195/Fractals/XenoDream/ Some of the examples on the above site use the XEP files I supplied earlier this year. All 89 of those may be obtained from here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xenodreamers/files/PNL-XEP_s.zip
