Sounds cool! Thanks for the heads up pokeydots!! Dave :-)

I'd love a low res Mike! LR-Vickie speeds things up tremendously in renders and is wonderfully versitile. I'm crossing my fingers for LRMike.

pokeydots ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 10:26 AM

hmmm, I hoping for some sort of animal :) I have enough people :) But I will be happy with whatever it is, after all it's going to be free! Thanks Daz :)

It doesn't sound like it's going to be low res anything, read pokey's post again, each of the figures mentioned has been completely new. maybe they've been working on a Green Goblin figure. Rob

c1rcle ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 10:44 AM

ok maybe stephanie wasn't completely new but she wasn't a low res copy of mike either. Rob

Legume ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 10:55 AM

Maybe a new hi-rez armadillo. That'd rock.

wdupre ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 11:06 AM

yeah an arma..... what the heck would I do with an armadillo? how about a free Kid this time?

igohigh ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 11:14 AM

I'll bet it it's a fully realistic looking Iguana! Stephanie needs one to cuddle up to ;-P

c1rcle ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 11:51 AM

you could roll an armadillo up into a ball and use it for football Rob

ronknights ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 12:24 PM

Yes, I'd love to have an Armadillo!!!

Here's a wild idea! What about a "generic" anthropomorphic figure? You know, a human/animal hybrid character. It would be more radical than the simple cat nose and muzzle morph Victoria has. One could morph it between feline and canine features as well as going from a digitigrade to a more human plantigrade posture.

That way, a user could dial from Bastet cat goddess to a feral werewolf.

Is there a large enough market? I don't know, but I'm sure a fair number of Yerf and VCL contributing illustrators might enjoy it.

Sincerely,

Bill

Maybe it's a guy out of Vicki? That would be a cool turnaround! :] FishNose

Redfern that sounds great, I'll have 1 right now :) Rob

Tashar59 ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 4:09 PM

Will it be for free? You had to purchace mike 2 or already have had purchaced, in order to get steph. Will we have to buy/have bought something in order to get this new model? Just wondering what term of Free, Daz will use. I know it will be something good. The news letter states, in the tradition of, so I'm guessing animal this time. Tashar 59

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 4:42 PM

I can handle most of the morphing for an anthropomorphic character myself (I've created cat-folk and wolf-folk with lo-res Vicky); all I really need are the digitigrade legs. The Monster Parts kits at DAZ looked interesting, but the legs are either insectile or hoofed. I need some with paws. Although I'd probably buy a full figure, anyway. I'd still like to see a Millennium Cat. Maybe it'll be a monkey.

Strangechilde ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 4:52 PM

Daz rocks. I'm thinking of the recent couple or three posts where people have pointed out some of the ludicrous prices being asked for models of sporting equipment. Daz creates all these excellent, high-quality models and releases them for free. And then, there's all the masterful modelers contributing to Freestuff. This is truly a generous and excellent community.

Bobasaur ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 5:46 PM

digitigrade? From the latin, "digit" which means the little bones in your fingers and toes and "grade" which means to rate one's level of accomplishment? hmmm. Any clue I had just got flushed. Life was simpler when there was just Vicky in the Temple with her sword and Armadillo.

Before they made me they broke the mold!

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 6:06 PM

Actually, I'm hoping they do the same thing with Stephanie and make a new figure. Mike is my favorite figure, but another male figure would be nice.

Redfern ( ) posted Sat, 15 June 2002 at 6:32 PM

Digitigrade, walking on the toes and not putting any weight on the heels. The misindentified backwards bending "knees" displayed in a lot of "furry" art. Those aren't knees, but rather the ankles and heels of the animal. Yes, even birds. The thighs are there, short, positioned almost horizontally and often hidden by the torso feathers. Have you ever seen a "fryer" without thighs? ;-)

Anthro' illustrators have divided opinions as to what is more appropriate for "hybrid" characters, flat feet similar to a human's (plantigrade), or extended arches with weight bearing toes, the heels held off the ground.

That's why I thought a morph between the two stages would be nice, everyone is happy.

But this is supposed to a 'freebie," I don't think we'll get anything like that.

Hmm, does anyone know what Daz charges for custom modeling? They do offer such a service, but I'm too embarrassed to ask. It might demonstrate the ol' saying, "If you have to ask, you can't afford it."

Sincerely,

Bill

Thanks, Redfern. You may not be able to afford it yet but if you don't ask you won't know when you can.

DAZ mentioned 2 humanoids and 2 animals as part of the tradition, so I suspect that it will be something people will moan over... and then discover a month later was the coolest thing since Cool Whip came in a can. ;^) For animal, I'd like a "small generic rodent"... which could be morphed into mouse, rat, hamster, gerbil, guinea pig, squirrel, rabbit, etc., like bloodsong did with all the hawks and falcons. They tend to move and groom similarly, so poses and limits of motion ought to be similar, too. (The animal I'd REALLY like is a badger, but a small rodent would be more useful to more people in more scenes.) Since Rbtwhiz has hired on with them, I'd place my money on animal rather than human if I was the betting sort. However, what would be extra cool would be a good morphing tree which had real roots at the base... so it would look like it grew in place rather than like it was set on top of the pool table... and which could be raised or lowered to look as though erosion had occured, gnomes had built a throughway, or to make a perch for the small rodent mentioned above. :) Carolly

Aaahhhh, lost connection right in the middle of typing my response to this thread. Blaahhhh! I really think it would be cool if DAZ came up with a way to create a figure that can morph into either a male or a female character. That way, we could have a whole population right in one figure. Might be something they should consider, if it isn't the upcoming freebie. Melanie

c1rcle ( ) posted Sun, 16 June 2002 at 11:04 AM

what a great idea, we can already make the guy's pride & joy disappear at the touch of a button so it shouldn't be that difficult. Rob

Redfern ( ) posted Sun, 16 June 2002 at 11:30 AM

Aiko can already switch genders with the altering of just two dials. So the software does exist. Since Aiko uses the Stephanie geometry which, in turn, uses the Michael 2 geometry, I can't fathom why a similar function can't be applied to a more "normal" physique. Hmm, actually, I can. Such a "universal" character could cut into Daz's profits. If one figure can supply all one's needs, why bother to buy Vicky, Steph', Mike, etc? Sincerely, Bill

I think people have their favorite characters and Vicki, Mike, and Stephanie would still sell. Besides, the new figure would have a different face and would add a new look to a scene. You might still want Vicki or Mike to appear for a more diverse look. A morphable character wouldn't be the Be-all and End-all figure that would banish the others. As diverse as it would be, you still wouldn't be able to do everything with it. A lot of people said something similar when Stephanie came out. Why a new female figure? Will this destroy Vicki? Vicki is still selling, even after the appearance of Stephanie. I think it would just enhance the collection of Millennium figures. Melanie
