Subject: New DAZ Mystery Model Clue #1

TheDaedalus ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:38 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 2:27 PM

"Jane thinks the new model is really cook, especially in the mist!"

Now that certainly makes sense! :) Any ideas?

Aaron

TalmidBen ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:40 PM

"cook" should probably be "cool" - the "k" and "l" are close together on the keyboard

TalmidBen ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:41 PM

Maybe it's a volumetric fog model

TheDaedalus ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:44 PM

Ahh! Good point! I never thought of that! That's an interesting idea! The one question would be if the name Jane has anything to do with it, or if it's just random. Aaron

Ms_Outlaw ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:44 PM

Gorilla ...in the mist...

TalmidBen ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:48 PM

Ahhhhhh! A king kong model?

nemesis10 ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:49 PM

I betting on gorilla for gorilla in the mist, Janbe like in Jane Goodall and Tarzan and Jane...

TheDaedalus ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:51 PM

Nice! That makes a lot of sense! Aaron

TalmidBen ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:54 PM

Jane Goodall, good point. I thought that Tarzan's girlfriend's name was Jane . . . this is probably a gorilla morph for Mike2

Hiram ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:55 PM

Yep, Goodall, first thing that popped into my mind. But if that's the reference, it's inaccurate. Gorillas in the Mist was about the late Dian Fossey. I was good friends with one of her students a long time ago.

khorne ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:55 PM

that sounds true !!!

TalmidBen ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:57 PM

we're so smart . . .

nemesis10 ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 3:58 PM

My guess was that they were trying to scatter as many ape clues as possible though I am hoping for a tarzan or morphing ape

TalmidBen ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 4:01 PM

Maybe we're all really way off, and it is really a Ghostbusters 1 Sigourney Weaver morph for Stephanie

Valandar ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 4:34 PM

Maybe it's a Greatcoat, like Sherlock Holmes wore? But considering they mentioned the Camel and Gremlin, two original critters, odds are it's a true standalone free model... So, I reitorate... It's a Millenium Gecko!

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Ecstasy ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 4:39 PM

I thought that it was cook too. That confitms it for me.

TalmidBen ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 4:59 PM

cook has now been changed to cool at Daz

cherokee69 ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 5:15 PM

Cool, Just went to DAZs home page, clicked the Free Section, clicked the Clue button and got this one.... "The Leakeys thought this model looked surprisingly familiar."

queri ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 5:28 PM

Ok, Leakeys are Austrealopiticine-- please excuse hideous spelling. So maybe not ape but ape-man? I'd love a Neanderthal. Emily

Pamola ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 5:30 PM

Definitely.. Gorilla. pg

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 5:30 PM

I agree. Probably a gorilla or some other primate, or perhaps the "missing link." DAZ already has a chimp, but no gorilla or monkey. I want a monkey. A silverback gorilla would be nice, also.

cherokee69 ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 5:30 PM

Louise Leakey "discovered fossils at Kanam and Kanjera and claimed that they were the oldest true ancestors of modern humans." Together, he and his wife "revolutionized the way we think of the descent of mankind. He ended up showing the world that humankind did evolve from and begin in Africa. By the 1960s Leakey had established himself at the top of his field and with all of his finds he certainly became one of the greatest archaeologists ever". OK, so is it going to be an apeman or ape?

namja1955 ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 5:31 PM

It's a Homo Habilis or Zinjanthropus morph...

danfarr ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 5:38 PM

Oh no, didn't Jane Goodall publish something along with the Leakeys on the study of excrement? We are really in trouble now. I guess we need to rethink our clues:)

Dan Farr

P.S. Our next clue was going to be coprolite. But now that you know, we might as well let you know that the Mystery product is the Magical, Morphing, Fantasy, Millennium Poop with ERC.

nikitacreed ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 5:56 PM

Yep...sounds like a gorilla to me.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 6:03 PM

Well, I guess the coprolite has hit the fan ....

TheDaedalus ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 6:21 PM

I know I don't say this often, but Dan, I love you! Aaron

FishNose ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 6:21 PM

So, the 'mist' alludes to the millenium pong rising off the millenium poop, right? :o] And it was Jane who produced it...... Does the cook have to do with the kind of food that went into it, like chili con carne or something? That would tell us a lot about its appearance, pong, etc. This is getting really scatological! Well, logical is what you need to be, puzzling with clues like this one. :] FishNose - off the rails completely

Freakachu ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 6:28 PM

Posable, and with ERC? Thanks, Dan? That should take my artwork in a totally different direction.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 6:32 PM

Jane Goodall studied chimps. I heard her lecture many, many years ago. The Gorillas are in the Mist... and those are Dian's The Leakeys and Johanson have fought bitterly over the family tree and where to put whom (worse than a wedding between fueding families). They were not archeologists, but anthropologists. (They study man, not traces of man's civilization.) So... my guess is indeed a morphing character. It might be Michael-based, but I rather hope not. (The joints and movement are different... we don't spend much time swinging from trees.) I suspect that it is an Homonid with FBMs for Ape, Chimp, Gorilla, and perhaps 2-3 steps of proto-human (Australopithecus, Cro Magnon, Neandertal). If they can get it flexible enough to handle gibbons, monkeys, baboons, etc.. it would be extra neat. Patricia here in this forum and her husband Richard have dug for Neandertal in Israel... they'll be extra excited about this model if it is what I think it is. Carolly

FishNose ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 6:36 PM

Boy, I hope you're right Carolly, that would be a way cool model! :] FishNose

This is bringing to mind an interesting take someone I know had on the theory of evolution..... *G*

TheDaedalus ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 6:49 PM

"The joints and movement are different... we don't spend much time swinging from trees"

Definitely. When you no longer rely on keen upper-body strength (specifically in the arms and shoulders), and instead utilize lower appendages for impetus, much of the body changes shape. Truly interesting!

Of course, we could all be very wrong, but supposing that we aren't, I think that a model like this (especially how you have described it, Carolly) could be fascinating!

I just adore these mystery models! We so rarely get a chance to offer ideas based on enigmatic words and phrases.

Anyway, even though I know none of this is done for me, I want to personally thank all of you for the input! This is great stuff!

Aaron

did noone catch what dan said? "Magical, Morphing, Fantasy, Millennium Poop with ERC" LOL :) here is what im thinking.. along the lines of the Leakey Foundation... ancestral.. perhaps a character morph.. full body morph.. for the ancestral of man.. the beginning of humankind? kinda falls along the lines of gorilla/ape (if you believe in evolution) oh hell.. i didnt read ur reply manhunter.. but thats what i was thinking too :)

Jcleaver ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 8:38 PM

OK, it appears it might be an ancestor of man; therefore it will be morphs for the original Poser 1 man! Just a guess.

melanie ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 8:42 PM

If this is anything like the previous free items that DAZ has given us, it won't just be a morph for Mike, Vicki, or Stephanie. It will be a stand-alone model all on its own. Whatever it is, I'll be happy to get it. Melanie

Freakachu ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 9:39 PM

You don't think DAZ would give the answer away so easily...that's why I'm certain that it's a Charlton Heston character...you know, from that movie where he sees the Statue of Liberty and says "Soilent Green is...hey...get your hands off me you fithy ape!!!" I hope it's a Cornelius morph for Michael P.S. Great image (derivative of Ruslan Karablin) at the link above.

file_13206.jpg

Let's see: 1.) "Me Tarzan, You Jane" 2.) Tarzan= "King of the Apes" 3.) Gorillas in the Mist, a popular book about a woman who studied and "championed" apes. This image is/was a Renderosity Free Stuff item.. It probably has no relevance to this mystery. But it does present another alternative to the Gorilla concept?!

Sydney_Andrews ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 9:58 PM

wouldnt it be funny if it ended up being a big frog? hehehe

Barbarellany ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 10:13 PM

Is this just free or is it free with previous purchase like Stephanie?

Hiram ( ) posted Wed, 19 June 2002 at 10:49 PM

God, it better not be a Blind_Chimp.

ardvarc37 ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 12:38 AM

I think it might be obvious it will be Victoria 3, or something to that effect, for the upcoming release of Poser 5?

EricofSD ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 1:56 AM

Well, with planet of the grapes remake, maybe its ape. But Leakey was criticized as having found merely an extinct type of Orangatange I think (I'm sure Lucy doesn't care, but hope you folks forgive my spelling).

namja1955 ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 5:57 AM

MARTIAN_MANHUNTER- Be careful about mentioning homo erectus.. it probably violates the TOS somehow... :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 6:28 PM

EricofSD, I thought that Lucy was found by Donald Johanson... am I wrong? I named the skeleton in my closet "Lucy" because she is a head shorter than me. Nobody at the party found the skeleton. ::shake head in wonderment:: I guess they were all too busy chatting in the front rooms. Until Poser came out, having a posable life-sized skeleton was handy for reference. Carolly
