Got some SPAM in the mail yesterday. Sounds too good to be true; they are offering Photoshop v7 for $49.95. Part of their ad says: " How can you sell this software so cheap? It seems too good to be true - is there a catch? There is no catch - the software versions that we sell are OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) which means you will receive the installation CDs only (they do not come in their original retail packing and do not include the manual). We do guarantee that all programs are the 100% full working retail versions - no demos or academic versions! When you order, you will receive all materials required for a complete installation - or your money back!" I'm tempted by this, but it does sound too good to be not a scam. Hesitant to give credit card number. I've actually relayed this on to Adobe (don't like scams, write software for a living), but my message may get lost in their system. Any of you folks have experience with this? [I've included the link, but please exercise judgement. I get about 150 spams per week. They seem to record and respond to every web hit.]

Sounds like illegal software to me. Ask them if you can registar the software with Adobe. See if you can get a serial number and check with Adobe to see if it is valid. If all te above checks out buy and let me know :) --Randy R

Indeed.....Only stuff like Windows and unknown small programs (movie players, etc) have OEM versions. I've never heard of Adobe doing OEM, since they only have pro software - nothing that will be preinstalled when you buy a new pc. Perhaps with the exception of their Photoshop Light Edition (which was only with v 5.0/5.5) and Acrobat Reader. Better be carefull.

my thought's with Rork, there's no way Photoshop is sold OEM, and if you pay 50$ for it, you'll be getting something with the same legitimacy as something you'd download off a file sharing program. Don't do it dude, really not worth it, that kidna crap ALWAYS has a catch, especially if they make it a point to say "THERES NO CATCH"

I agree with everyone... always good to be suspicious when you see that catch phrase. the thing is anytime someone offers what seems like a good deal, it usually is'nt. it would be interesting to see what Adobe says about it,hehe. let us know ....

Well, Adobe does distribute OEM products (Premiere, for example, is bundled with some Pyro capture cards, etc). Chances are, though, that this is one of those Asia-based rings (no, I'm not stereotyping.. Thailand is world-reknowned for their high-quality warez that even come in full color boxes with manual and fake certificate of authenticity) that might send you a CD that looks real and comes with a serial number and all, but I'd be wary about giving them any money, even if they don't end up ripping you off. :/ Also, odds are the real ripoff comes with shipping & handling.. or that you'll just get a CD with a few thousand links of where to download it from, most of them shut down by the time you receive it. Thing is, by now, I doubt any legitimate company with nothing to hide resorts to spam to conduct honest business. =DarkPen=

I've pretty much come to the same conclusion -either a scam, or illegal, or both. There was a similar thread in the newsgroups, saying pretty much the same things. I did click on the link (expect I'll get a LOT more SPAM over next few weeks). And they were asking for credit card number over what appeared to be an unsecure link. I don't give that out in any case. Whole thing appeared fishey. Not worth the worry for a few dollars. So far, only a form letter back from Adobe, with sales and marketing boilerplate. I'm late, know it. Just saw document from tv few days ago, they said that almost 95% of these incredible offers are from Asian or Russian markets and got nothing to do with original manufacturer. Money going strigtly to mafia. They are selling identical pakages, identical softwares, cd's, manuals etc. fooling even firms and retail dealers. .n ps. And yep, all Canadians are strange, drug pumped monkeys.
