Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 24 4:22 pm)
Hmm, I'm not sure if UVMapper or Morph Manager is number 1 in my book. I do a LOT with both. Actually I've gotten far more use out of Morph Manager with Jaager's insight. I also use Tailor a good bit, though I find it hard to transfer some Stephanie Morphs, especially those about the Forearms. P3DO is way up there too. Indespensible for making nice .rsr's MAT Pose Edit is awesome as well. Makes creating MATs a breeze. I also use Bushi's MorphSqueeze to make all the morphs "legal". Windows 2000/XP users will have to run it in Windows 98 compatibility mode. Non-Poser Specific but useful: 2x Explorer for dual pane file moving. RJH Extensions - adds cool right click menu items, including multiple wildcard renaming. Great if you want to put some of those MAT pz2's in the Camera folder. Metapad - notepad replacement, opens any file size. Not the quickest, but easy and familiar to use.
.
OK what I'm looking for is what are some of these programs, like Pwizard? I've heard about it but what does it do? and Phi builder? lots of newbys hear about how indespensible these programs are but have no idea what they are or how much they can do, having worked with poser less then 8 months I consider myself a newby, and every time I finaly figure out what people are talking about I hit my head in wonder realizing that if I knew about some of these slick aplications I could do twice the work in half the time.
I agree with wdupre, I'm an even newer newbie myself. Would someone perhaps consider putting some info in Frequently Asked Questions on these poser "helpers" what they do, what they are called? where to find them? where to find tutorials on them? I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one who'd be reading it with great interest.

This would be a helpful thread, a list of Helper apps small applications that speed up or make easier doing things in poser and or transferring to or from other programs. As well as what the heck they do in simple English. I have often come across a thread that mentioned some arcane program but I didnt understand what it was or why I might need it. So I thought Id start the ball rolling with a couple of my favorites. UV Mapper / UV Mapper Pro http://www.uvmapper.com This program does many things very well but its basic use is to create templates to texture (paint stuff onto) 3d objects (for figures that would be the skin for clothing it would be the fabric pattern) the classic version of the program is free. the more advanced Pro version costs $50.00 It is worth every penny. There are versions for both windows and Macs. Grouper http://www.renderosity.com/freestuff.ez?Form.Contrib=CastIronFlamingo&Topsectionid=0 I just found out about this free program in a previous thread. And I already find it indispensable for converting OBJ files to Bryce. O.K. here goes. Anyone who has ever rendered poser figures in Bryce knows what a hassle it is to group a complex figure with clothing and props in order to texture and transmap it properly. Often for me it is the most time consuming part. But what this program does is allow you to organize the meshes using a simple drag and drop tree format, and then converts the groups into single meshes making the texturing process much easier. It even imports the original unconverted JPG bump map Unfortunately not the transmaps though youll have to load those separately in Bryce. There are many other great programs (such as PBoost, morph manager, etc.)and I hope others will pick up the ball and run with this thread. Perhaps it will be worthwhile enough to go on the tricks and tips page.
