I would like to know where I can find a distortion filter (free preferably or not expensive) which works like the feature in PhotoShop under the Menu Item Edit > Transform > Distort. This filter would need to be able to work similar to this feature, but one could have the choice of as many intersecting grids (quads or triangular) like vertices as you wish - as so one could control pull or pinch areas of an image. The useful of this filter (or utility) would be great for lining up an existing texture(s) with the UV mapping coordinates of 3D model maps. I have created an image of what it might work like. I know of one I can not remember the name but its price is quite high (attachment). Can anyone help me out? Dale MacMullin PS This forum need an edit feature for us poor spellers. lol

"Rubber" (Stoik Imaging) or "Squizz" (Human Software) Both are Photoshop plugins http://www.stoik.com/rubberpi/index.html http://www.humansoftware.net/pages1200/Squizz/HSsquizz11.html

If you have Photoshop 6 or above, you can use the liquify tool to translate locally.

there is a feature built in to both photoshop and Corel Photopaint that does this exact thing. Look in your effects and filters menus

If there is? I have never run across one that does what I have described above in PhotoShop v5 - that will distort on three levels at the same time. There are ones, which will perform and edit distortion on one level, and then you must change the settings. If so please post the name and path to the effect or filter? or is it a newer version of PhotoShop that has this great feature? Rubberman does what I want to do, but it would be more convenient to have it on a transparent, so you can see your map underneath.

ah...no...not 3 layers at a time...sorry I didn't read enough detail in your post. Sigh though in corel when i tried to select all objects and apply the mesh warp it seemed like it wanted to do it but it froze up in the process! The picture I tried it on had 5 layers. is this what you mean?

Bia ( ) posted Sun, 23 June 2002 at 12:24 PM

actually, it isn't frozen...it's just working very slowly but I am unable to cancel the process...so it may be too much for the filter to deal with, you think? LOL! never tried it before...

Iam sorry...I need make my self more clear Bia. What I meant was not on three layers, but three levels like shear, scale, distortion and pinch all at once. Where in v5 I can only work with one at a time, where the warp feature in Rubberman lets me do all of them at once.

oh I am sorry...i was really off the mark... :)Bia

Ulead Photoimpact has a warp function (see image) that I use for things like this. The PS plugins are just too expensive, and Photoimpact has about $2000 worth of filters already built-in for about $69.00 - best value in paint tools out there. I spent a fortune buying Photoshop 5, then 6, and now 7 plus extra for the plug-ins, but I keep coming back to Photoimpact for its easy-to-use and powerful features that are all included in the basic package.

That looks great Ron and the price is not bad...thanks... but can you add a trans layers to this item, if one could bring in a 3D model's UV Map underneath and then place the texture you wish to distort on top to fit. Seeing through the layers where to move the vertices of the "Warper" to the vertices of the UV map (which outlines the model) would be ideal. In Rubberman presently, one has to make an good educated guess, paste it on the map, and continuously check it against the model this takes a lot of time and results I do not think is as good. If some one could come up with this as a seperate little utility I bet they might make some $$$ Codetwister are you listening to this!? :-) Thanks again.. Ron I will be looking at it.

Mac - YES you CAN do that in PhotoImpact which has layers, masking, transparancies, and most everything in photoshop - go to the Ulead website and download a FREE demo. If you note the "preview" and "test" buttons in the interface above, these allow you to apply your settings to the full image without committing to it, tweak a bit, preview, tweak some nore, etc, and this can be done on a transparent or semi-transparent layer. I have actually used it to distort photos to fit UV templates and it works fine. There are also other "bend", "smear" and "distort" tools as well to aid this process. I make ALL my Poser textures in Photoimpact not in Photoshop even thouth I have both.
