Many of you are familiar with Questor's excellent weapons. That stuff disappeared about the time Questor went into the hospital. You need not despair any more. Questor's weapons have been "poserized," and are available at the DAZ-3D Free Section, in the Archives. Some of Questors pistols and rifles are also featured in the Gunslinger Poses I bought. The guns and rifles are set to automatically fit right into Mike's hands... Good Stuff, Questor. Thanks.

And good posing!

Questor ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 5:06 PM

Thanks Ron. Glad you like the stuff it was an "interesting" exersize poserising the whole collection and trying to get them to fit with Don's poses as well. Hopefully people won't have too many problems with everything. :) The western firearms in the new free pack are intended to replace the ones that came with Don's pose set, as the original weapons suffered from some smoothing issues in Poser, the new ones don't. So for people who already have the poses, don't be afraid to download the new set, there are some extra guns in there and they're all poser friendly now.

And they kick major ass, Questor, as I told you months back when I downloaded the original set. Only now they kick "Four-star General" ass. And so do the gunbelts. I might be whipping out a few textures for them, if I can properly scan the scrollwork on the beautiful leather quick-draw buscadero my wife gave me as a wedding gift. I actually wore it at the wedding ceremony with my Ruger Blackhawk in the tie down, and an 1847 Walker Colt in a crossdraw. Thanks again, Questor!

Thanks for the praise Legume, I'm all a fluster now, too many people saying nice things is going to my damn head again. :) I like the image too and I'm sure I know that rhyme from somewhere, it reads very familiar. :) Anyway, yeah, it'd be cool to see any textures you do. I tried scanning my own belt but it's black and the tooling just didn't come out right in the scan. I figured in the end that I'd have to hand draw it in a paint app and my skills don't run that high. So you got married with your guns on? Was that to keep off the father-in-law with the shotgun? snicker

When my wife threw the bouquet, the preacher blasted it out of the air with an old double-barrelled coach gun.

ronknights ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 7:49 PM

Wow, Questor, you and Don are the Best. I wish I'd written my original post earlier. I've just finished rendering most of the poses I got with the Beta set.. I discovered this was the beta pose set when I noticed a gunslinger and gunslingerS folder... Well there are still many new renders to do. I'll get rid of the guns Mike has now and replace them with your new ones. You probably noticed I used the only two-holster gunbelt you offered... I couldn't see using two individual gunbelts!!! Good work, once again. You can bet I'll be dusting off the Sams3D Saloon soon. And PWFW has the Sheriff's office and more cowboy clothes coming up. HEeeeeHAWW.

Questor ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 8:07 PM

Thanks again Ron. Yeah, there is only one dual holster belt in that collection. I have a couple new designs that are planned that I'll start work on next month and there'll be a better selection of dual holsters then, including a dual belt holster, similar to those used by "mexican bandits" in hollywood westerns though I'm having some interesting problems with that one, :) and a low slung gunfighter rig. Anyway, there's some more planned that will take the collection on and broaden it. There'll be a dual ammo belt for a stagecoach shotgun guard and a couple belly gun shoulder holsters if I can get the conforming issues sorted out. Along with... of course... some more guns. Flintlock and long arms to go with the new frontier clothes coming from Poserworld, a shotgun and percussion cap shotgun for Stagecoach and a few other toys, including a top mast gun for the Jack Tar clothing Poserworld are doing. And, an item that several people have asked for - a Kentucky rifle.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 8:14 PM

Have you thought of doing a shoulder holster? Thus far we have only the one by Billy-T, to the best of my knowledge.

ronknights ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 8:32 PM

Now those are good ideas, Questor. Some of the poses apparently involve the use of shoulder holsters. I'm at my wife's computer now so I can't look at the set.. I was wondering just how I could handle those. Now some of the poses involve using a horse I believe?! I think the DAZ charger has been hanging around the house looking for work.. I assume the poses would work with him?

Questor ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 8:38 PM

Ron: I think Don made the poses with the default Poser horse so that people wouldn't have to chase around trying to find one. I'm sure he can answer that question better but it looks like the Poser horse to me. In all honesty the charger is a bit heavy for western settings as they mostly used ponies and stock horses. The charger is best suited for fantasy style armoured hero things I reckon. In respect of the Poser horse, I think Daio has some free poses available for that horse and there are some morphs for it on Bloodsong's site. Little Dragon: Yes I have. Once I've finished with the western collection there'll be a bunch of shoulder, belt and tactical holsters. Seems a shame to make lots of guns and not have anything to put them in. :) I'm also working on a couple rifle sheaths which will probably be plain until I (or someone more skilled) figures out how to animate tassels.

Questor ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 8:41 PM

Oh one other thing. I don't think any of Don's poses use a shoulder holster. I'll have to check but I don't remember any. I think what it is, is that he only had a conventional hip holster to use for crossdraw poses and what looks like a shoulder holster is actually a cross draw pose with the hand raised across the chest for the barrel to clear the holster on the other hip.

Netherworks ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 8:57 PM

Very awesome collection, Questor! Glad to hear that you'll be working on tactical holsters and such. Great!

.

ronknights ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 9:51 PM

Questor, I believe you're right about the crossdraw poses. I have troubles seeing those tiny "thumbs," and know nothing about shooting and guns. I just think the cowboy stuff is cool.

Questor ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 10:08 PM

Netherworks: Thank you. It'll be about six to ten weeks before the new sets are available as there's quite a lot to do, but there will be some more modern stuff included as well. Ronknights: The thumbs aren't too clear, it's a shame that you can't expand them as it's damned awkward staring at a whole string of tiny thumbnails. I work at 1280x1024 screen res and it makes the poser thumbs very small indeed so half the time I have to play guessing games what's actually there, or use p3do to explore them. I started making a pose "album" last month consisting of 300x300 renders of the poses so I can see immediately what they are. It's a pain in the neck though because I'm also having to re-categorise a lot of poses. Mind, having said that I've also in doing this, discovered a lot of poses and sets that just aren't worth keeping as it would take as much time to fix them than to re-create them. Oh well, maybe the new version of Poser will contain a proper browse function rather than the current very limited library panes.

ronknights ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 10:19 PM

Questor, I'm working on quick renders of these poses. I plan to put them together in "composite" images, showing some that go logically together. I'll probably post the renders in my gallery, and/or on my web site. I've been doing this on and off for just that reason. I had troubles seeing thumbs when I still had the old crappy 15" monitor. Now I have a 17" with 1280x1024 resolution like you. I just figured it's my middle-aged eyes and bifocals! Ron

Questor ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 11:14 PM

No it's not your middle aged eyes and bifocals. Well, not unless I'm suffering the same middle age attack of slowly disfunctional body parts. LOL Personally I blame Poser's funky menu and library system, I feel better than considering bits of me might be breaking down. I confess though that sometimes the screen is a bit clearer when I polish my glasses. :)

Thanks Steve...this is the 3rd day I've been trying to get them and the pages at free.daz3d.com won't load.....grrrrr

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sun, 23 June 2002 at 3:24 PM

I got them all, but it took a few hours (and I have broadband). Questor's arsenal might prove to be the downfall of the DAZ freebie server.

Questor ( ) posted Sun, 23 June 2002 at 10:22 PM

Deepest apologies to everyone. It seems that a couple errors made their way into a couple of the files in the archives. I've uploaded a fix to Daz tonight. I should imagine they'll get round to it pretty quickly, but in the meantime if you've downloaded the files already, give me a shout on email and I'll send out the fixed files to you. The errors are: Wrong obj file supplied for the Pulse Rifle, and the Peacemaker points to the wrong geometries directory. Email me at Questor@shalako.demon.co.uk and I'll get the fix out to you. It's an 880kb zip file so should go through most email accounts. I'm really sorry that this happened, but somehow I missed it. Hopefully Daz will get the fix up quickly but in the meantime send me an email if you've downloaded it and I'll mass mail it out during the day (Monday)

ronknights ( ) posted Sun, 23 June 2002 at 10:35 PM

Questor, I appreciate all the effort you've put into these files. Don't sweat any errors. I assume we can always download the new files in a day or so? I surely don't want to inconvenience you with emailing the fixes. Besides I'd rather have the "fixed" file all in one spot. I just love those DAZ exe installs.
