I am in need of modern military hardware done in Poser format for use in my projects. I've noticed several Renderosity and DAZ mechants offering cars for sale the latest being a really cool Ford Mustang. How about a Hummer with a 50 Caliber Machine Gun roof mount. I am looking for tanks, self propelled artillery and attack helicopters (Cobra, etc.). Notice the M1 tanks (3DS format) in the picture. Looking for vehicles along the same lines but posable. I would think others would find items of this type of interest. By the way I've seen promo's on TV for a new movie about dragons (Looks like the D&D movie dragons) in modern times. Anybody have any info on it?

I'm sad to report that there aren't many posable helicopters flying around. JesterCGI has a nice Bell222 in the Marketplace, with police and camoflauge textures, but that's about it.

You might want to take a look at Facets 3D models (http://facets3dmodels.com/). They specialize in models for military training simulators. The models are available in OpenFlight, VTree, and 3DS formats. (The first two formats aren't terribly useful unless you're doing simulation, but 3DS is fairly easy to convert to OBJ format.) If you email them, you can get a sample kit comprising five of their models: an American helicopter, a Russian fighter plane, a hummer, and French and Russian battle tanks. Of course, you can't use them for commercial uses, but it would let you get an idea if the models are suitable for your needs. You may find that these models have less details than you need, as they are designed for quick rendering when you are simulating a whole battlefield of them. If they don't do the job, you might check out the database at http://www.vis-sim.com ("The Visual Simulation Resource"). If you look under Resources, Data, then Models, there is a whole list of companies that make models for military simulation. Hope this helps. Lynn Grant Castle Development Group

My total non-militaristic partner just reminded me that Geo-Metricks (http://www.geo-metricks.com/) has a set of 24 low-poly tanks and other military vehicles, and another set of 24 low-poly airplanes. DeEspona has a ton of military vehicles (Ships/Boats, Tanks, Jeeps, Aircraft) you name it, they've got it and ALL of them are EXCELLENT quality models. Unfortunately most of them are in 3ds/max, and Lightwave format, but I think a number of them have been converted to Poser over at Turbo Squid. Check it out... One interesting thing about the Facets 3D models, not pertinent to what you're doing, but interesting nonetheless (at least to me) is that in addition to the normal textures, they also supply textures that show how the vehicles look through infared thermal-imaging sights (generally white), and in some cases, how they look after they've been damaged or destroyed by ordnance. lynn

Not to beat a dead horse, but I found one more resource that might be useful: https://models.tec.army.mil/models/home.html This is the 3D model library from the U.S. Army Topographical Engineering Center. "The 3-D Model Library contains Computer Aided Design (CAD) models of the U.S. and Foreign military equipment in flt, obj, dwb, dxf, iv, object, s1000 and vert/poly formats. " Ordinary folks like us can download about 400 models, people with closer government connections can download more. It appears that you have to have Netscape in order to log in to their site (using a guest userid/password), but even if you don't, it might be worth getting Netscape just to get access to the models. (BTW, you can get a list of the available models without logging in, so you can decide if it's worth your effort.) Lynn Grant Castle Development Group
