Subject: DSI and The Tailor

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Tue, 02 July 2002 at 6:52 PM · edited Tue, 04 February 2025 at 9:55 AM

In light of the recent confusion over the use of The Tailor to make morphs for Vicki and Michael 2, I just want to clearly state what DSI's policy on it is this in regard to our products, so there is no controversy. While we respect DAZ's right to implement their own policies, we don't want to restrict or encumber anyone from making clothing or accessories for our products or morphing existing clothing to fit new characters for our products. You can use The Tailor or any other morphing method you want to make clothing fit Dina or Vina or any of our characters for Dina or Vina (Carmen, Cherry, Dina Z) without having to use an encoding method on the distributed product. If you want to make fit morphs in clothing for other characters made by 3rd parties, such as Darina by pam and Katia by Handspan Studios, you will need to contact them to find out what their policies are. Other current distribution guidelines still apply. Meaning you can distribute new morphs for a DSI figure or a current piece of clothing in a cr2. You cannot distribute an obj file or a cr2 that has had the grouping tool used on it (that embeds part of the mesh in the cr2). If you have used the grouping tool to morph your clothing, please transfer the morphs to a "clean" cr2 before you distribute them. If you change a figure or clothing item in a way that necessitates a new geometry file that still contains parts of the original, you must use some method that ensures the end user has the original product. Using ObjMover and/or Maconverter to encode a pcf file is the most used method. We are working on a male character right now (no ETA yet, but we are well into the process) and the same policies will apply to him. More news to come as we make more progress.

Thanks Diane. One request though. Could you perhaps make sure a few more morphs are included in the male character than you did with Dina? The biggest selling point of Vickie 2 and Mike 2 for me was the massive amount of morphs included with those models. If not for that I wouldn't have bought them. Just a thought.

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Tue, 02 July 2002 at 7:05 PM

We're going to do our best to accomplish that, Questor.

Questor ( ) posted Tue, 02 July 2002 at 7:42 PM

Thanks Diane, can't expect more than your best. :) I'll keep an eye out for this one, a good alternative to Mike would be very welcome, for more than the current reasons.

whoopdat ( ) posted Tue, 02 July 2002 at 8:00 PM

Glad to hear a voice of reason from a modeller. Even though I didn't purchase Dina, something like this makes me that much more inclined to look at alternatives.

Crescent ( ) posted Tue, 02 July 2002 at 8:06 PM

Two requests on a new male figure: 1) Have a realistic body shape for it. I'm sorry, but without massive morphing, Dina does not look right. 2) Have an average-to-handsome face. I'll be gentle and simply say that was not true of Dina. I never bought Dina because of the aesthetics of the model. I don't need all my models to be supermodel beautiful, but they shouldn't scare me. (I'm not trying to be cruel, just honest.) I do look forward to seeing the new male model, though.

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Tue, 02 July 2002 at 8:34 PM

Crescent, I know what you are saying. Believe me, we learned a lot from Dina. You might want to check out Vina, though. She has a much different look than Dina.

pam ( ) posted Tue, 02 July 2002 at 10:04 PM

Thankyou Diane :-) btw, if someone wants to make clothes for Darina, it is cool with me, follow the same guidelines with Darina as Diane states for DSI products, and I think we will do just fine, :-) {though she does like going bare}

movida ( ) posted Tue, 02 July 2002 at 11:03 PM

I can't wait for the male model, thank you. As for the default Dinas' appearance, put a light skin on her and put the transmapped conforming curls on her (I don't have a link handy in case you don't have the transmapped curls) and if you don't see Kim Basinger you're blind that's all folks!

scifiguy ( ) posted Tue, 02 July 2002 at 11:27 PM

Sorry mov, but I don't think I could ever see Kim Basinger in default Dina! ;) Diane, I can't even find a list of what morphs Dina/Vina (I think all the morphs are the same, its just a rejointed/shape base, yes?) comes with. Like Questor, morphs and the ability to change the figure's shape frequently from image to image is what makes them useful to me. If this information posted somewhere? I looked at Animotions store, but couldn't find it.

Here's a list of Dina's morphs. I have a couple of morph/magnet packages in free stuff over at rotica and there are several characters that have added morphs. Carmen in particular has over 70 added individual morphs.

This is Vina d model with the Cherry tex, Vina has a prettier face and she wears Victoria's clothes. But I had to make my own MAT for this to load automaticaly. Vina is very worth buying altogether. But in this not one morph dial was changed, Carmen morph set at 1.000. Very pretty! Alex

Here's an image of the morphs added to Carmen and Vina's head. I don't usually get into listing a bunch of morphs because I usually find that you can't really tell what they do from just the name. The added body morphs include Hips Narrow, Hipbone, Butt Cheeks Together, Shapely Thighs, Shapelier Knees, Shapely CalvesTummy, Chest Wider, Neck Chords, Neck thinner, Neck Pit, Collarbones, Breast 2, Breast 2 Bigger, Breast 2 Up, Shaplier Arms.

ardvarc, Nice look! What problem did you have with the MAT pose? The Cherry MAT pose should work fine on Vina. Just so people know, the same "Carmen" face that Vina has is available in the Carmen character for Dina as well. Vina's default face is actually the same as Dina's. :-)

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Wed, 03 July 2002 at 1:09 AM

Just realized I might not have been clear. Vina has some added morphs that Dina didn't come with. Those morphs are available in part in some of my free stuff, but in total in the Carmen character.

Yes on Vina that can be zerod to become Dina's face. The MAT for cherry if applied to Vina creates exceedingly undesirable results as they are made for Dina. I think it is also a MOR pose, but it put Vina's body way out-to-under proportions to get a rediculous result. Image included, if I am making a mistake please correct me. Alex

ardvarc37 ( ) posted Wed, 03 July 2002 at 4:15 AM

You can see Cherry's face worked just fine, but not the torso. Okay I just checked, it's the result of the CR2 file! goofy me again! lol, Alex

Here she is as MAT pose applied only, no Cherry character. A post work of sharpening was applied, and a crop, no brightness or contrast or color. Alex

ronmolina ( ) posted Wed, 03 July 2002 at 7:16 AM

Well I have Dina and like her very much. Of course I can do my own morphs so I could care less about them. Keep up the good work Diane. Cant wait to see the Male figure. Ron

movida ( ) posted Wed, 03 July 2002 at 7:55 AM

Crescent and scifiguy: try it...then look at her face. Allerleirauh's transmapped curls are here in freestuff. What really slays me about the "DinaV" situation is that the most frequently "seen" (maybe not "used") morph for Victoria is what I mentally refer to as "big tits". DinaV comes stock with "big tits" and people are put off. I think that's hysterical (just my perverted sense of humor) I built a new dual-athlon specifically to be able to use DinaV and Zbrush to their fullest capacity (morphing). I think sooner or later you have to face the fact that 3d graphics needs heavy hardware. You've got a female model already (DinaV), use her. Still can't wait for the male!

ardvarc37 ( ) posted Wed, 03 July 2002 at 6:24 PM

... well those "big tits" are fabulous!

Crescent ( ) posted Wed, 03 July 2002 at 8:08 PM

I go for faces and body shapes, not just breasts. What put me off was Dina's face and strangely proportioned shoulders and hips. I've only seen one woman at the gym who came close to Dina's proportions and I've heard several people say that woman obviously used lots of steroids. (I don't chat at the gym, but I do eavesdrop.)

ardvarc37 ( ) posted Wed, 03 July 2002 at 9:31 PM

Sorry guy, breasts only, it's the only way to go! Or care! It's the only way to be a MAN DAMMIT! So buy Vina D! If you have Dina then get the Vina ad-on. Vina wears V clothing. She's an awesome model. That's a picture of her right up above in this string, 117,000 polygons and she comes with a lo-rez version with over 60,000 polygons, over twice as much as Victoria. That means seriously high quality poseability. Alex

Sorry about the nudity and her baldness, I just wanted to show the MAT pose with the cherry texture. Alex
