Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
"...I now see that Poser 5 will be released sometime..." I don't have any direct knowledge, but 'Sometime' is the operative word there ;). Based on what's been shown, my wild-guestimate is that it might be out for the Christmas buying season (I wouldn't expect it before Fall). P5 appears to have some of the Pro-Pack features (setup room, etc) and since the pro-pack upgrade is not free, I can't imagine CL not making an upgrade distinction between Pro-Pack and Non-Pro-Pack upgrades to P5, so it really just boils down to 'when' to spend your money... if you think you want some features in Pro Pack, I don't see any reason to wait on P5. Just food for thought.

Of course, having said that, the worse-case scenerio would be if they don't merge the two programs in P5... they could charge everyone the same upgrade price to get P5 and then have a seperate upgrade path for the 'Pro Pack' version of P5. Then it's a question of whether P5 alone would have suited your needs and/or whether you felt the upgrade price to P4 Pro Pack was worth the use you got from it between now and the time P5 comes out (assuming P5 alone would have satisfied your needs, otherwise, you'd be on the P4 Pro Pack upgrade path anyway). Confused yet? ;)

I knew I read something about Propack in the California Dreaming thread, and here it is: "and there will be continued support and development for the propack and hosting in other programs such as lightwave and Cinema4DXLand MAX and in the near future a new 'Super plugin" that will forever change the relationship between poser and the high end community." from that quote It doesn't seem as if propack is going to be intigrated completely into poser so I think It is pretty safe if you want to get it with the understanding that you may have an upgrade price for that too
Yes, the quote was from a CL employee.

Actually, that quote was from Wolf359... I don't believe he's a Creative Labs emplyee (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

Oops, I double checked and I was incorrect. It was wolf 359, not kupa. Sorry 'bout that.

I can't advise as to whether you should buy Pro Pack or wait ... well, actually, I could, but without knowledge of the P5 release date my opinion would be worthless.
However, kupa has revealed that the best upgrade deal, price-wise, will be for owners of both Poser and Pro Pack. So perhaps your pocket-book won't ache too much, and you'll get to take advantage of Pro Pack's features while waiting.
From the screen shots that King Kupa posted, it looks like P5 includes not only the setup room of the pro pack, but a ton of other things. I have the pro pack and don't use it much yet cuz I'm still getting familiar with poser. Seems to me from speculation in the posts that the price of the upgrade may be similar to the cost of the pro pack. Who knows. We will have to wait and see. I have one philosophy on computers. Whether its new hardware, upgrades in software, or purchases, I only buy when needed (not when wanted). Reason being, things change in time. That new hard drive today for x dollars would be nice, but if I don't need it for a year or so I'm confident I'll find a better hard drive for the same price next year. But if I need it now, then its time. Hope that helps.
Here's the way I see it. If you don't need Poser Pro Pack right now, then don't buy it. Poser Pro Pack exists for a specific area of needs, and many hobbiests just don't need those features. What's the current price of Poser Pro Pack? $149?! That's a significant amount of money. Who knows, it might even handle the Poser 5 upgrade price, or get you far enough so that the rest will be easy to handle? Dig in, wait, save your money. *** "This message states My Not So Humble Opinion. Our opinions might differ, but I respect your opinion!"

I'm an infrequent visitor so forgive me if this is common knowledge. I've been thinking of getting Pro Pack but I now see that Poser 5 will be released sometime. Does anyone know when Poser 5 is to be released and whether it will duplicate many of the 'ease of use' features that are currently only available in the Pro Pack ? Should I wait for Poser 5 or buy the Pro Pack now ? Will there be an equivalent Pro Pack to go with Poser 5 or will that upgrade be obsolete ? All replies much appreciated.
