Subject: introducing more than two characters into a workscene

Hi;I'm a newbee,I have read the pdf file, and can't figure out how to introduce more than two character into a workscene. After i added the second character:the add character function is diabled . Can someone help?

It doesn't do that for me, or anyone else. How are you adding figures?

i just create a character into a temporary scene ,then use the add character button on the bottom-right of the screen. Anyway if I can't get around this little inconvenient,i might just order this book that just came out. It's fairly new and comes with a cd.

I have never seen that problem. I have seen problems were people keep replacing figures rather than adding figures, but not where the add button doesn't work. In a low memory situation bad things might happen when you add too many figures, but it won't just ignore the button.

I would warn you not buy the Poser 4 handbook. I'm sorry to say that you would be better off with the tutorisals online and the ones you have in your Poser manual.

Well,I have 128 megs. Shouln'd that be sufficient,to add more than two high res figures? Mabe not ,I tried to load the wonderwoman character, and I got an out of memory message.Maybey it the g7 player in my taskbar that gobbles up my ressources.I'll remove it ,and see what happens.

If it is a PC, yes. If it is a mac you might have to specify how much memory to give poser. In NT you can look at task manager to see how memory is being used. I'm not certain how you do that in 95/98 or on a mac.

I have a Plll with 128M and Poser 4, and recently tried a test. With all other apps closed, I kept adding figures to a scene until it locked up. I topped out at 12 characters before response time was indistinguishable from a crash. This is without the Poser 4 patch. Anyone else have better results? Or worse?

That matches what other people have reported before. Have not tried it myself.

Damn. There goes my virtual army. I guess it is just a virtual squad now. Remember the old adage, "If at first it don't compute, reboot, reboot, reboot!" Poser 3 and 4 can both act a bit squirrely if you were doing something exotic beforehand, like using Notepad. ;) Reboot, close all non-essential apps (including Real) and try again. Are you trying to add the same figure, or a different one? You could try adding another char. by importing a pz3, and see if that does it. Lemme know how it works out.

Soembody said they got 50 some figures at once, but I think they were cheating by posting to background or something. So you might be able to have a virtual platoon. Or simplify the hell out of the mesh for the background figures.

Well,I guess found the culprit. In my startup,I had too many apps sponging off my memory. My Allinwonder 128 was the biggest reassource hogger.Once I took care of this little snag ,I was back in bussiness. Now I can load as many characters as necessary into my workscene. Thanks for the hint though.
