i am having a problem with whenever i download something my computer does not give me a choice to choose which folder or directory to save to anymore. it justs pops up automatically to a temp folder and then it times out and my search (find files) cannot find it. is there anyway to direct it to a folder i want it to go to. since i cannot right click and choose save as in renderosity freestuff to choose? thanks everyone!

Is it no matter how big the file is? Coz I sometimes get this when trying to dowload large files, I haven't really been able to see any consistency in it :o/ A good thing to do is to make sure your TEMP folder is empty, it can cause all sorts of weird problems if too many .tmp files are in that. Don't know if it solves THIS problem though.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

I never had this problem but, have you tried to reinstall winzip to see if that helps? --Magnus--

Site Admin

Go to Start menu/ Folder Options. Click on the third tab (File Types) Scroll down till you find WinZip File and click on Edit. Make sure "Confirm open after download" is checked. That should fix it, had it happen to me many times and it was a hair-pulling experience at first :) Oh, and BTW, I'm on windows 98 so I'm not sure where folder options are if you're using XP or sth else. Hope this helps.

you might find that the file is saving to some stupid temp file somewhere and as long as the winzip archive is open you can select file>move archive... this lets you put the archivesaves it where you want.

I think it's possible you're clicking on OPEN instead of download.. my pooter does this.. it copies the file to temp folder then opens it.. once open it deletes the temp file.. double check that.. if not I'm stumped :) Dolph.

Are you using IE? If you are, and you don't have the option of Saving to Disk for WinZip instead of Opening it, try this: Click Start: Settings: Control Panel. Double-click Folder Options. Click the File Types tab. Scroll down to and click the .zip extension. Click Advanced. Click on "Confirm open after download." (As per Microsoft. Don't blame me if it's wrong.) ;-)

This happened to me a bunch of times and I'm sure it will happen again sometime. It's a weird quirk (in 98SE) but I'm sure the same fix method will help if you're using a different Windows OS. A while back I asked this very same question here and Kalypso's solution should do the trick. There's no rhyme or reason to it, just one day Windows decides it's going to download to temporary internet folder.

I suffered from this problem, too. Calypso and Crescent, you are right - thanks for help, it works! A toast to you both! This was going to kill me...
