Subject: Anyone come across a freebie set of tiny very low polycount human models?

Has anyone ever come across a collection of free meshes for tiny humans in various poses. Im looking for very low polygon count ones that would be good for very distant people. The thought of creating 10-20or 50 from stratch in poser seems like a lot of work. These humans would be a few hundred polygons or so... looking as we speak on the web but no luck so far.

Howdy... What about the Poser2 Low res figures which come with Poser? The obj file for one of these has the line "# 2242 elements" which may be too many... but you could export the posed figures into a modelling app and reduce the poly count further. Hell... the obj files are only 300K or so, so I guess you could have a hundred of so of these babies in a scene before straining the machine. And they;re already clothed! But it might be better to go for using 2d faces textured with transparency maps for the distant figures... Saves on resources! H:)

instead of that, why not do a few renders of the full size people, save the images make transparencies for the images, then apply these images to squares. sprinkle the squares about as needed.

Also, CacheForce has whole groups of already-clothed low-poly people usable for background figures.

Im not sure if these would work or not, but there are freebies on Turbosquid called "Manga Babes" that are extremely popular. They are low poly and even though they are in 3DS format, they can be made poseable in you have the Poser Pro Pack.

They aren't free, but PhilC has a pair of low-resolution (~2000 polys) Poser figures for sale in the Marketplace, and they have more morphs than the P1/P2 figures.

Baument had a cd collection with lo-res people on it. Now I see that it's not available separately anymore but has been bundled into a 5 cd deal, check it out.

Depending on how the model is saved etc, Metasequoia has a vertice reduction feature that will take it all the way down to whatever you want. Only problem is that its non commercial and there might be model rights to consider if you use one of the poser models. The model rights you might be able to overcome with the appropriate phone calls/agreements but the Metasequoia program can only be purchased in Japan.

The action game Counter-Strike, and its community has a number of very, very low-res models including some great looking female nude and clothed figures, male military types, and weapons or any other number of game(s) sites (etc. Quake III). They come in mdl, md2, md3 model formates witch can be converted using lithunwrap, or milkshake in to .cob,. obj, or .3ds. I have a few but cannot remember where I picked them up. Perhaps you can make an inquiry at www.counter-srike.net in their forum will lead the way or any other CS gaming sites...hope this helps.

tks for the info, checking into the links as we speak, cant see myself paying $150 more for a collection though, not when through time i could build my own in poser. Problem is of course running and exporting what could be 50 or more little tiny poses will take more time. Might be i should just do it though, could be used in dozens of pictures later.

PolyCount, a low-res game modeling site, has more free downloadable characters than you could ever possibly use. The Half-Life section alone should fill all your needs; most of those are under 1000 polys.

I didn't mention the site before because all of the figures are compiled in proprietary game formats which Poser cannot read. But if you have MilkShape, you can decompile and import a Half-Life character, pose it as if it were a Poser figure, and then export the figure as a static .obj mesh.
