Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
This premise has been popping up since the price announcement. I don't know how true it is. Looking at what Poser 5 is going to have, I think it is unrealistic to expect them to sell it for much less than the $500 range. One can arge that PhotoShop is overpriced, given that you can get most of that functionality in Corel PhotoPaint or perhaps PSP for much less. You can't say that about Poser since you won't find that combination of features and ease of use for anything like the price if you can find it at all in a single product. I'm sure CL would like to get more "respect" from the high end but it's a tricky calculation. If you lose 5 customers at $250 and pick up 1 at $1000, it's a net loss. Also, attitudes are hard to change. People who disdain Poser as a toy aren't necessarily going to change their attitudes just because the price goes up. They also have a large investment in software and training that they aren't going to be eager to throw out the window.

No, Maya PLE, "personal learning edition", not save disabled, but only ONE file type in saving and the renders are watermarked. AlexFigure it out: Maya PLE has one file format that can't be transferred to any other program. IOW, they want you to spend the 1600 bucks for the main program. PLE is a tease. and Truespace HAS raised their prices since version 2 by a few hundred dollars. I agree that there is no program even remotely close to Poser in terms of what it can do and with the ease it offers. And I think "pro" pack signalled a push to expand their market. If they really wanted to do that, however, they should change their name from Poser to something else. Personally, I love the program and think pros who sneer at it are snobs and a bunch of lemmings eager to follow the crowd and jump off a cliff...

will probably be in the 800-1000. range with features to match. I think P5 is clearly CL's attempt to distance its flagship product from the industry-wide negative stigma that Poser has. I think it's a good thing. One way they're going to do that is to up the price. Truespace did the same thing and is starting to gain more respect among pros.
