This is a sidewalk I discovered in the abandoned, "bad" part of town. There are only 2 such sidewalks like this in the area, and they are so old even the local "old timers" don't know how old. The 1800's for sure, but that's all I can find. I thought I'd only post 1 or 2, but it was too hard for me to leave the other 4 out. No special effects here. Didn't need any.

These bricks are really heavy. If you can get your fingers in between them, they can be lifted right out.

Check this curb out! I don't know what it's made of, but it sure looks better than the concrete curbs of today!

A close-up. I had to have the "Save For Web JPEG" settings at the quality setting of 50, so that the file size wouldn't be higher than around 125kb, but it lost a lot of detail.

This section abruptly ends here. I guess somebody actually got a load of these bricks!

The pattern used by the bricklayers. The newer ones downtown sure aren't laid like that. The reason why is they don't want to take the time to cut the edge pieces. Too bad, the lazy bastards!

At first I thought the curb was granite but the closeup looks like quartz. Nice shots. It is too bad we don't spend time making things like this any more. Progress is in such a hurry that we forget to treasure the little things and make a mark that will last.

The fourth one is a great close-up, and the last one is a great texture photo with a poorly lonesome and near-whole cigarette squeezed in the crack of a brick closer to the right side of the photo...
...Or, is it not a cigarette..?

Cool I think the way the bricks are layed out is called herringbone? my parents have a driveway like that, its quite popular here in the uk. Good angles btw

doruksal, that is indeed a cigarette but in the last one. I didn't notice it before. It was rather late when I downloaded from my camera and re-sized. It will have to go! And caledonia, I went back there today and got a second look at the curbs. Granite or quartz, all the sidewalks in the area have the curb carved of stone. Many of the bricks have been covered with concrete, with the stone curb remaining. Also, the curb street corners aren't corners at all, but a huge carved circle. It roundness gives the intersections a somehow more picturesque feel to it over the pointed street corners. And azy, it must be herrington. In TV, there is an interference pattern called herrington that has the same saw tooth pattern. That's enough evidence for me! I found some more really cool lost treasures in that part of town the last couple of days. I'll post some this weekend. I'm glad you liked these old bricks! ;~) marshall

Im meant to agree with you about the herringbone name, but for some strange reason I wrote herrington instead! I have no earthly idea why, but I meant herringbone. You were correct.
