Subject: Render top, left...??

Is there any way to render a scene with one of the preset views, say top or left? That is without creating a new camera and positioning it perfectly. I know I can do a quick test render in the scene window but I want an image I can safe to disk as a reference for texture maps.

You can do it by clicking on Camera 1 in the Camera 1 window. This will open a menu. Select position to and select the view you want to render (top, left or whatever) Then go to the render room and that view will be rendered. Keith W

Maybe I don't know what the camera window is. In the assembly room in the scene window I click on the upper left corner, change Camera 1 to top and hit Crtl R (or go to render room) and it just renders the camera view. I can find no way to change it, except to create new cameras. This is on the PC version, would you happen to be on Mac?

october: No, I'm on a PC using Windows 98. Maybe this will help you. Carrara will only render a view from a camera. Therefore to do what you want to do you must set a camera to one of the preset views(top, left, etc.) To do this one of your view windows must display a view from a camera. then you can change that camera's view by selecting one of the preset views.
