Subject: How do I keep preset poses from changing facial expressions?

seadog ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 8:01 PM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 1:23 AM

I created a face which includes subtleties in the arch of the eyebrow, eyelid position, etc. But as soon as I click on a preset pose it changes all my facial expressions to the poses preset facial expressions. How can I use the preset poses without it changing my character's facial expression?

thebert ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2002 at 8:18 PM

the problem is that the preset pose file has a facial expressions store in it. So want I do is select the pose first and than the facial expressions or I edit the pz2 and remove any facial expressions settings

The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.

To play it safe, why not create a new facial library for that character? I routinely do this. Just switch to the face library, and save the face as "default." You can bring it back later.

Heya, select the head for the figure and then got to object, lock object, then apply the pose. Lock any body part you do not want a pose to change. Unlock when done. Don't use the lock figure unless you want to lock the entire figure, which means no pose or changes can be applied until you unlock it.

Oops, that should be lock actor, not lock object.

THere's also a little freebie program out there (or there was) called Stripper. You load your pose and it'll remove the head morphs from it for you. Try a search in Free Stuff for "Stripper"

Look do it the easy way. 1.) Create a Face Library for the character whose face you want to save. 2.) Add that face to the library. 3.) If you lose that face, just click on the Face icon in the library and bring it back. I routinely create Face Libraries for many characters. Those include character and facial expressions. I always save the default face to that library first. Then I can always bring it back.

If you've got a bunch of poses that include the expression morphs (very bad technique) and you don't want to edit them all, you can create a set of your own expressions that are correctly limited. - save them as face files, but select sub-set and uncheck all the face-shaping morphs (tedious) - or you can delete the face-shaping morphs more quickly in a text editor As thebert suggested, you then can apply an expression after applying a pose and/or character morph, which won't be changed by the expression. That's how all my XprssnMagics are set up - plus as separate eye and mouth expressions for more combinations :-) Elisa/gryffnn

Thanks for the good info mates. I've found that locking the face actor before applying a new pose seems easiest, but I'm sure I'll use those other techniques as I become more advanced. As always, I appreciate your advice, ---seadog.

I would reccomend the face in the library method, due to the fact that if you have a calamity (poser locks up, you accidently delete or replace the figure, total system crash, armaggeden, etc., etc.) you will still have the face saved.

also you can use Morph Manager to strip unwanted settings from a pz3 file. Or use Schlabber's poses - his are always made without morph info :)

gryffnn ( ) posted Sat, 27 July 2002 at 5:03 AM

Or MartinC's Maconstructor for stripping morphs. And yes, Schlabber's poses are always done right.

Jaager ( ) posted Sat, 27 July 2002 at 5:51 AM

The sure way is to filter the poses through a figure with absolutely no morphs to begin with. Using a copy of your figure cr2, delete all of the morphs. (The quick way to do this: change the extension to pz2 open this in MM4 Other options = delete all morphs save the pz2 change the extension back to cr2.) Apply the pose to this figure and save the pose back to the library. ( If you like the previous rsr, give it a slightly different name, and using your file manager, delete the old pz2 and the new rsr and make the name of the new pz2 match the old rsr.) The bare bones figure is peachy keen for developing and saving your own poses. And it does not matter if you forget to tell it not to save morph channels, or you have Poser 3, which did not offer this option. These clean poses are safe with any character.

The MEMORIZE/RESTORE element menu would fix your problem?
