Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 27 5:12 pm)
Similarly, whoever wishes to prepare 3D content for further use can achieve this directly via the file menu." this can put many of the 3rd party vendor sites out of business. i heard about this many months ago....cool concept. so this is why mehndi of poserpros wanted to start a "guild" for poser suppliers. the plot thickens.....
I doubt this will really have that drastic an effect on the current Poser communities and 3rd party vendors any time soon. I welcome anyone who wants to create additional content but just databasing what's available isn't all that exciting to me. They are still going to have to face the pricing structure and quality issues as all the rest.
I've noticed that 3D model vendors that try to simultaneously sell to the various markets including Poser models have a hard time dealing with the Poser pricing structure. That's why we see these ludicrous prices like $150 for an untextured Soccer ball model when we are used to getting professionally designed human figure models with all the bells and whistles for $50 or less.
All in all it sounds a bit reminiscent of the "Web Links" file menu option that has been around since Poser 4.
{{{{{so this is why mehndi of poserpros wanted to start a "guild" for poser suppliers.}}}} What I find ever amusing Poppi is how many plots and motivations you constantly attach to my every word and breath I take, and every move I make. You might think my name was Le Enfant Terrible Machiavelli. Whatever Poppi... whatever. If it makes you happy to constantly obscess on me, by all means do so.
Mehndi, Poppi... can't we all just drop the issue and go on with our lives? I like you, Poppi, you're cool. Mehndi, well, you know how I feel about you, but that's beside the point. The fact is, the community as we know it is about to completly change in so many ways that our petty arguments and past differences, our tendencies to paranoia and conspiracy, have no place. We are the dinosaurs. We face extinction should we continue to ravage the land with our obese presence. Let us simply put these things in the past, where they belong, and evolve, that we might have a hand in the new order, rather than to burden this community with our jealousies, our angers, and our predispositions. Maybe I'm just tired, maybe I'm just changing, but I feel that all of us, if placed in a room, would have a fair time. What is it about this medium that makes it easier for us to pick at each other's faults, and play on each others feelings? I don't know, but I'm sick, and I'm tired, and I'm done. I don't care if you are my "friend" or "enemy", I for one intend to assume a role of responsibility within this community, and I encourage you all to do the same. I may not like Mehndi, but her success or failure do not hurt me or help me. Neither will they likely hurt or help you, Poppi. While I like and respect you, I fear that in this case you are seeing a phantom. Our public portrayal of this issue has gotten to be such that it is a sick mockery of the real actions. Are there shady events moving in the minds of certain players? I think so. Was Mehndi's intent ever such as this? No. I know a great deal of what Mehndi has gone through in the last few weeks. I hope you can take my assurance, as someone for whom defending Mehndi is almost a difficult as eating razors, that her intent was always to improve things, even if it did not turn out as such. Mehndi, I know more about what you and russell have been through with DAZ and PoserPros than most people in this community, and I haven't said a word since the very beginning. I have come to conclude that, while reckless in your negligence, I do believe you mean the best. I truly hope that you realize that the result of your actions is oft times incongruous with the intent of your actions. Don't think of this as an attack on your character, it's not... In fact, it's a form of praise that I want to help you to be perceived as the person you are. I fear that, in this environment, being who one truly is, against the perceptions of others, requires more truth than we are sometimes comfortable with revealing. I see you beginning to splinter under the harsh weight of the events of the last few weeks, and I want to truly and honestly say, that if I have ever caused you harm in the real world through my actions, then I am sorry. It is easy to be relentless when you do not have to hear someone cry. Don't think I want to be friends, I don't. I'm just saying that I view you like I would view any other member of this community. I will help you if you need it, but I won't sacrifice for you or for your causes. And if either of you is reading this thinking, "What the fuck is going on in his head?" then you should step back from the computer, take the time to eat a nice meal, smoke a cigarette if you like, and love something. Love it with all your heart so that you will give up anything to see it endure. If the thing you love in that way is this community, then I won't have to ask you to look beyond your differences. Sincerely, Paul Allan Jenkins Sunday, July 28, 2002
P.S.: The "community" I refer to is not Renderosity, but all members of the graphic arts community. P.P.S.: I think the content paradise will revolutionize the end user's ability to quickly and easily find content, regardless of where it resides. And if I know Steve Cooper, I'm gonna guess that it will be pretty gosh-darned cool, to boot.
It looks interesting, no not the p2p thing the content paradise, but is it just going to be for the buying & selling of content? Don't forget it can't really startup till Poser5 arrives so it's not going to have that much of an impact on anyone straight away. Plus it's missing something very important, it's missing a forum. Yes I know it's not ready yet but it won't work as well without one, I mean you buy something and it doesn't work what you gonna do? apart from sending an email not a lot, with a forum you can nag the poor soul who made it till they give in & fix it :) Rob
Ok, Phily... the main issue here is that CL has announced some sort of plan to sale content for Poser 5. Most of Renderosity's income is generated from the sale of content for 3d art, via the market place. Folks are just trying to figure out how this will affect renderosity, and the entire community. Personally, I think Steve Cooper is one of the biggest fans of this and all commmunities out there, and this is probably not as big a deal as people think. ;) Paul P.S.: My post before was somewhat off-topic, so if you're worried about that, don't be... just a little banter between the politickers. ;)
Can you do something about jimjur and his warez links in this thread and the one about 3dc being hacked? Almost every single free stuff contributor says no sharing in his readme. And that means NO SHARING. Only the artist who creates the content can decide how to distribute it: that is the basis of copyright. Anybody who tries to usurp that right is a thief. Carolly
Why is any one suprissed that CL are going to sell directly from within Poser5 A more agressive company would have done it in Poser4 as it is so easy to do with the Web. Sadly I think Renderosity has shot itself in the foot somewhat by not enforcing a standard for all sales items. An example of this is the incorrect pathways in Zip Files that causes nothing but problems for Newbies As to JimJur's URL His URL is for a LEGAL Peer2Peer where there is Legal and Illegal material. I recently put a lot of Images of Tasmania in a shared folder which can be accessed through WinMX. My mate had Grokster running the other day and there were over 2 million computers sharing files. So at any given moment in time there are probably 10 million Pc,s using P2P.It aint going away by blocking Posts Instead of whinging about Warez, why dont some of you think about what could be done about Peer2Peer. There has to be an Achilles Heel.
P2P is not bad... people will always steal. It doesn't matter what kind of protections you put in place. Someone will always figure out how to get around them (usually faster than it took you to put them in place). I've often considered offering freestuff items (my own) through P2P simply because of how web hosts slam you for bandwidth. If I set up a P2P share then I never have to worry about being shut off because I exceed me ? gig limits with my host. Just something to think about. , fgeorge
but, i did not mean anything negative in the slightest about mehndi's idea for a "guild". i think it would be a useful service for the community as a whole, if it was to be truly unbiased. paul, mehndi...both of you guys missed the boat on your posts. with buying directly from within poser....a guild stamp of approval would be a really good thing. geeze, am i the only one who has gotten beyond the "poopi" thread, here?
I dont think there is. Even if you could what can you really do about it. Asia was sold to A who lived in the US. A then puts it on Gr###ter. B,C,D from anywhere in the world load it down and then get cheesed off with Gr###ter and put it on on their PC's shared folder and are now using Wi###x, E is at the Australian Antartic Base, loads it down from Wi###x, and managed to get it down over three days from B,C and D Pc's. and on and on and on.
"rotflol. I love Capitalism." And I literally mean that. I wasn't mocking Capitalism in that it allows someone to attempt to scorch someone out of $150 for an untextured soccer ball, I was applauding it because it allows COMPETITION - the heart of the free market. And I laughed a bit because I've seen those outrageous prices @ turbosquid.com Ben
Late to the thread as usual.... Ok...here's the D.A. question of the day... I'm not doubting what Carolly says about most free presenters saying NO SHARING...But I guess my question is WHY? HOW COME? HUH? If I'm ever able to make anything worth sharing and decide to give it away to everyone for free, I think my theory would be "Here..and give it to everyone you know"..."The more the merrier"...I mean...as long as there's credit given, you wanted it passed out for free...right? I don't mean to be completely dense, but I just don't get it. And on the P2P thing, I never thought of it, but if you don't have a host, that might be a good idea I think. And despite the feelings of a lotta huffy people here, P2P programs can be useful and aren't illegal in any way, it's just the sharing of copyrite stuff that's wrong. I'll let you all get back to downloading your "back-up(cough cough)" music....:) Beav

Egisys has a little glimpse into the content paradise thingy mentioned in the poser 5 info. The link leads to what appears to be the beginning of the website for it. "Economy in the generation of 3d contents is of central importance. The basis of the business sector 3D Content Brokerage is a 3D Database, which is directly connected to the 3D software tools of EGISYS. The user - for example, of Poser - is able to purchase 3D content such as figures, movement patterns, textures, language movements as well as mimicry and gestures via the file menu and to integrate them into the applications. In the same way, the databank is filled with content. Similarly, whoever wishes to prepare 3D content for further use can achieve this directly via the file menu." Please excuse me if this info was posted before. I remember some threads where people wondered about it but I can't remember if anyone ever found anything.
