Subject: I am looking for another creature again

kkndmaster ( ) posted Sun, 28 July 2002 at 2:44 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 4:25 PM

Well hello guys well I cannot find a sea serpent, lochness monster, pleisosaur, or whatever you want to call it. I really would like to have one for free because I can't afford to pay for models. So does anyone know where i might get such a creature for free. Thank you in advance.

Hi I'm Working on coverting the pleisosaur which was mentioned in a below thread (do a search for lochness) to Poser format i.e joints etc but i'm having one or two problems with it not the least being I'm at work most of the day so only have afew hours to play. So I'll let you know how I get on. Another major problem is the original model is not mine and as far as I know not credited so i don't know how I stand with Distribution. any help appreciated with regard this Dave

hmm well are making a model yourself. Well if the orignal mesh was nothing but a non-posable mesh then I don't think that the original creator would mind too much. Hmm how long do you think it would be before the pleisosaur would be ready to be usable? By the way if you want I can host the pleisosaur on my server.

there are 2 plesiousaur 3d models out there. I guess the one you are talking about is from the 3d cafe collection, and it must have for sure an author. The other plesiosaur is fully poser ready and its author is Anton Kisiel, I guess his user name over here is Phoenixrising. To void problems as the one I just read in one of the posts above I suggest you to try to contact the original author first. Hope this information is helpfull for you.

hmm I will look up this phoenix guy

kkndmaster ( ) posted Sun, 28 July 2002 at 6:29 PM

hmm might be hard to get in contact with him since he is big and famous.

Lyrra ( ) posted Sun, 28 July 2002 at 9:17 PM

Anton is still active here, and famous he may be, but still a very nice guy :) Just BUSY. As far as Poserising the plesiosaur from 3Dcafe, you definately want to get permission from the modeler if you intend to distribute it. kkndmaster - I'm not sure how long you've been a member here for, but the poser community tends to be over-cautious about copyrights. Saves trouble in the long run. We've had enough serious issues here, that I'd hate to see another flamewar over something that could be easily avoided. If all else fails, try giving Bryctech puppydog eyes - he's an amazingly fast creature modeler here, although his stuff is not free, it's cheap :)

Well if he has a free pleisosaur well no point in making he make another and then having to pay for it. You see I have no credit cards or anything I am only 14 so its really hard for me to get any money around. I am lucky to have poser 4 only because it was on a very limited time offer on amazon.com for 40 dollars.

kkndmaster.. (this is going to sound rude but sorry) if you are 14 there are many ways to get some extra money. do chores for mom and dad. family, even the old woman down the street. Believe me it makes everything you get that much better. S as for seaserpent. Anton's might be available at propsguild.com daz had one for a while.. not sure if they still do. hmm well are making a model yourself. Well if the orignal mesh was nothing but a non-posable mesh then I don't think that the original creator would mind too much. Hmm how long do you think it would be before the pleisosaur would be ready to be usable? the original creator would probably mind and it would be best to contact the original creator BEFORE distributing it. The original creator holds the copyright on the mesh. and since you mention you have a server you need to KNOW these things before YOU host anything at all because if you don't you will be the one who get's introuble for it. Its not getting the money that is the problem for me. Its getting the money from point a to point b. And I will check out the guy and ask him if you can let yourself have the edited mesh online and for download. Maybe if there is an email address well that would be nice and I will contact him personally. So maybe you could give me an email. Propssguild is a paysite but I asked anton if he may send me a copy. And if he can't send me a copy I will ask him if he could just give me permission so that if I come across someone who happens to have anton's pleisosaur well I will ask them if they could give me a copy and then tell them truthfully that I have permission from the original creator well they should give it to me. Or if they don't believe me I will bug anton hopefully one last time and ask him if he could just tell him or her to give it to me. Now I think if the pleisosaur is a free creature I could even host it on the free stuff for anton if he wants to.

Somehow I don't think Anton is hurting for server space :) As for the money thing - Do you have a checking account? you might be able to arrange with the store here to mail in your checks or money order. It's a hassle - but better than nothing. Lyrra

no I don't have a checking account and I will wait for anton's reply.

kkndmaster ( ) posted Mon, 29 July 2002 at 1:29 PM

oh man can anyone please give me the pleisosaur pretty please. I know that anton's "the plant" had a readme file included that said it was a freebie. So look for a readme file and it should say that it is a freebie so please could you look for the readme file I really really want a pleisoaur. Thank you in advance!!! P.S. that must be the perfect pleisosaur.

Stormrage ( ) posted Mon, 29 July 2002 at 4:04 PM

kkndmaster.. It doesn't matter if it was a freebie or not. It's still copyright infringement IF the readme does not allow someone to pass it on (redistributing) THink of it this way. If someone was to send it to you it would be warezing it and we just don't do that You might try getting a free modeling program and LEARNING how to make things on your own.

kkndmaster ( ) posted Mon, 29 July 2002 at 4:27 PM

hmm I guess I will have to contact anton then. And I can just imagine how much it most cost to buy a modelling program.

Stormrage ( ) posted Mon, 29 July 2002 at 4:51 PM

kkndmaster, actually there are some very good free modelers out there. blender is just one that's available http://www.3dlinks.com/software_modshare.cfm has a few listed http://www.worldforge.org/dev/eng/3d_compare_html has some more. It's not really just the program you use, it's how well you know it. If you learn any of these programs you might just be able to build a plieasaur or poser model yourself. do a search for 3d modeling applications free and you might find some more.

kkndmaster ( ) posted Mon, 29 July 2002 at 4:54 PM

Hmm how long do you think it would take a person with plenty of free time to learn a modelling program or something like that.

Stormrage ( ) posted Mon, 29 July 2002 at 7:13 PM

someone with plenty of freetime? or some one with the drive to learn? Not long. A few weeks, or days to get the basics and the rest to actually play with the program. Just try it.

kkndmaster ( ) posted Mon, 29 July 2002 at 9:14 PM

I got a message and anton may give me the pleisosaur. But in the near future I may try to get down to modelling anyways. I will probably try rhino
