OK here we go for another update. Hope this is the last request for feedback for her face, I'm starting to get really bored of this head. Fixed the sides of the nose, the ears and her mouth. I tried to lower her mouth but i just couldn't find a suitable morph. The mouth will be much better once i have finished the texture, but there is still something wrong. Would you prefer this "brownish" texture or a more pale one??? To the next update i hope i have finished some kind of hair texture. Please don't look at this one it is crap. (Any hints on making hair textures? I only know cut-and-paste. By the way... I think i could do a Victoria Principal of this quite simple. Without the hair and with an earlier lip texture it looked very much like her.

Without hair -- you mean Victoria during the Jhermack days? :-) VERY good work - and great choice on the hair.

Only one suggestion: Get this onto a host before I hunt you down and make you work with 8088! (and yes, I still have the first one I ever soldered together...)

Ohman You are definetely dialing in on her likeness. Are you using a facial picture of Marina Sirtis for your texture? If you have a clean straight on picture you might be in luck. Just paste the pic over an existing P4 face texture and then "paint out the sides to cover the whole face area in the map. Hope you dont get frustrated and quit when you are so close! Mayhaps you can post her? Eric Walters

I have an old sinclair, with a 2 kilobyte memory if you think that would hurt worst. Post it. It is great and even the hair doesn't look that bad. It is great! Do you take requests? How about a DR Crusher and a Tasha Yar to go with Deanna, we wouldn't want her to get lonely :}

ohman ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 4:00 PM

Part of the texture is from a Marina Sirtis image like the eyebrows and mouth. However she has a kind of strange mouth expression on that pic and i haven't found any other suitable to make a texture from. After finishing this one i will either do a Jennifer Aniston or my big dream: a Harrison Ford with just his two facial expressions: Angry and suprised :o) But a Star Trek NG crew isn't complete without DR Crusher thats true. Who knows...

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 4:06 PM

ohman--part of the problem I can see is that she DOES look different in different pics and poses, as someone already mentioned (notice the top left and the bottom right as ex.). I think its great--I am not sure if I have ever seen her--Trekkie?!?--I'm not, so that might explain it. However, I like the character, the texture and what you've done with it. Diane B

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 4:10 PM

Ah, the mouth--needs a bit more length between nose and upper lip. I think Trav has this morph, but if not, there is def. one on Nene4.1 since I have used it before. I sure understand about the morphs. I dled ALL Trav's morphs as zips and then in a fit of industriousness last night, I unzipped all and categorized them by mouth, eyes, facial, etc. Still, just finding a nose morph or a lip/mouth morph is extremely time consuming. DEF. not Trav's problem--he's just made sooooooooo many G. Diane B

ohman ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 4:23 PM

Of cause! Thanks Diane! I have searched through my whole hard drive looking for that morph but never thought about checking whats in the Nene figure. I am an idiot! /Ohman

Foxhollow ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 5:11 PM

ohman, don't take me wrong in this post because you're doing a credible job on this character. This is probably THE most difficult task with Poser that exists...making a "likeness" of a real person. The fact that you're getting really bored and tired of tweaking dials means you're about halfway there! hehe Just want to say you're doing a great job on this. The one thing I see that could use some work is the nose...seems too small, but the shape is close. Noses ARE tough! Now, my comment that will probably piss everyone off...I find it amazing how everyone seems to go goo-goo over some of the celebrity characters shown here...most aren't even close to looking like the real person. What is needed is constructive comments about what doesn't look right. Doing these figures is very tiring and you reach a point where you can't look at it anymore in a "detached" manner to see what really needs changing. I believe everyone posting a figure in progress is longing for this...and there are some very helpfull people offering their observant eyes here. But, telling someone a figure looks JUST like this person when they could never guess who it is without being told is more harmfull to the work than the good done by any ego stroaking with a false statement of how good it is. Sometimes, you've got to be tough to push someone to their potential. I'll probably get burned because I personally don't always comment on these characters posted for comment. Though I DO partake in creating figures of real people, I don't consider myself to have developed the "eye" to really see the problems...I know when something's wrong, but can't always put my finger on it. There ARE people here with a much more developed "eye" than I have. hmmm...didn't mean this to ba a rant...must not have sounded off for some time.

kalirage ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 5:37 PM

Looks very close. The only thing that I notice that makes it look a little off, is where the cheekbone meets the nose. The rendered figure's cheekbones meet up to the bridge a little further forward than in the photograph. I think if that was moved back a touch it would be a dead ringer :)

rtamesis ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 5:38 PM

As far as I can tell, it looks good enough to be done with it.

Ikyoto ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 6:07 PM

Send me the head. Her upper lip needs just a little more of a bow in in the middla and POOF! it's done.... or I'll just wait for the notice that it's on Free Stuff.... ewhich will be soon. Right?

melanie ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 8:20 PM

I think the photo on the lower left corner of your image is so close to a forward facing picture, you would actually use that one on a texture map. You might give it a try. That one is ome of the better ones of her, anyway. Melanie

ohman ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 5:31 AM

I moved some morphs from the Nene4 figure to this one last night before i went to sleep and it seems that they are exactly what i've been looking for. Now ican lower the mouth and chin. Upper lip and the nose also needs modifications. I will se what i can do with them as soon as i am home from work. Melanie: The image at the bottom left corner would be great to make a texture from if it where bigger and sharper. Heck, all my pictures of her are small and blurred. Thats why i can't get her nose right, the shape is so hard to see. Foxhollow: In a way I agree with you, but all the positive response have rather inspired me to try even harder. No one criticises my work more than myself. I am never pleased and always finds some new annoying detail. The problem is rather the fact that the opinion are so different. One says the nose is to big, one says it's to small and the third likes it as it is. (Strange by the way, that no one seems to have noticed that the eyes are to big...) Da Ferret: You're doing quite good yourself. Your Picard is a masterpiece! Ikyoto: Patience, patience! Have a nice cup of tea or something :o) Everyone: Shall i post her naked when the head is finished or should i wait until i have made a hair texture and some clothes?? /Ohman

Krel ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 6:15 AM

I agree that the upper lip needs more of a bow to it.....other than that I think this is an excellent likeness given the limitations of Poser......I'm looking forward to you posting it.....and BTW, an important feature, the hair, is also very well done; without that it wouldn't look quite as much like Marina....beautiful job, one of the best I've seen recently...... Krel

LoboUK ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 6:42 AM

That is very very close Ohman. I agree with the comments about the mouth needing more of a bow to it but, other than that, this seems pretty much complete. The hair is excellent. Paul

ohman ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 6:48 AM

I better say it again: Id didn't make the hair. Da Ferret did. God bless Da Ferret!

ohman ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 6:50 AM

picnic ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 8:24 AM

Okay, if Da Ferret did it, where IS it??? G Diane B

ohman ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 8:31 AM

He made it specially for this character and mailed it to me. (~4Mbs of stuff, my mailbox was about to emigrate...) Of cause i'll post it with the character when it's finished. Everybody: Get Da Ferrets Picard is on the Props Guild. /Ohman

Ikyoto ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 10:42 AM

Between ohman and Da Ferret, we can have all new episodes of our own! Really great work by both of you - thanks.

Ricardo ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 2:59 PM

This is good, but the only real test is to post the model without photos of the real subject and ask " who's this?"

ohman ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 3:51 PM

It gives me more feedback if you have something to compare the model with. I'm posting here in hope that other people shall see what i am missing after staring on her face for five evenings now, not JUST to show people what i'm doing.
