Subject: Renderosity a warez community ???

TruthinaCircle ( ) posted Mon, 05 August 2002 at 10:56 PM · edited Sat, 02 November 2024 at 8:37 AM

Question is why? I sent Rosity the proof about a member who was giving stuff away on a warez site cause they asked for the proof. I sent the proof but Rosity didnt do anything so that must mean they support warez and virus sites. What is Rosity doing about this? Nothing, cause if they allow members to do this, then this must be a virus community. :))

There's several problems with your conclusion about Renderosity supporting viruses and warez: Problem 1: Just because you haven't seen anything publically about that member does not mean that nothing has been done. Problem 2: Renderosity can not shut instantly shut down activities that are not at Renderosity. If there is a warez site, then one of the admins may be contacting the ISP about it. The problem is, Renderosity can only control what goes on at this site. Problem 3: Not immediately doing something about a situation does not mean it is condoned. There are legal issues that have to be addressed, and that can take time. Problem 4: If a moderator or admin took the time to contact you to get proof, then how likely is it that they are going to then ignore the whole incident? It is far easier to pretend that they never received the initial information. It's commendable that you are trying to help shut warez pirates down, but just because you do not see instant annihilation of the poster and the site, please do not interpret it as something sinister.

warez here is pretty much a dont ask dont tell situation here. As long as you dont go around on the forums asking people for it or giving it away or just being stupid about it, they tend to look the other way. Personally i am quite opposed to it, but what are they going to do about it?

Truth is not much. You can look at the fact that membership suddenly soared once p2p programs came out and that it seems everyone these days has thousands of dollars to throw around on modelling programs that they know next to nothing about.... a large reason of why i dont post freestuff or marketplace items here, and my gallery is empty, is because of reasons such as this. You can go into the chat rooms at any time and hear talk of warez or shareware programs not paid for, and look at the forums here, it sometimes takes hours if not days for a warez post to be locked, and while we know admins cant always be everywhere, moderators usually dont even notice till you shoot fireworks around it and then they can only lock a post and not delete it, so naturally the guy gets what he was after anyway.

Its a sad state of affairs, but rosity is not the only place like this, warez has turned into a large and very popular affair lately. its at a point where you have to wonder everytime someone asks a question. I do a lotof customer support and such during my off hours at work, and can identify several times where the simple solution to someones problem was that they were using illegal software. And then they get all upset when you tell them this even though its quite obvious.

Members here are very much the same .... if you even suggest they are using illegal software, they jump up and down in a huff and act like you hav mortally offended them, but where else do 16 year old boys who work at mcdonalds get copies of maya 4 unlimited from a friend and have 2 years experience at it but dont know how to apply a render node.

I'll prolly be flamed hardcore for saying this even, but Ive been sitting in the dark corners on this site for a long time just watching in dismay how the whole world is slowly turning into a gimme state.

"instant annihilation" Hehe..that's pretty good. Nuke 'em off the face of the internet. Would that make you happy, TruthinaCircle? Then you wouldn't have to come back and post this same question in this forum every couple of weeks. Sasha

TruthinaCircle ( ) posted Tue, 06 August 2002 at 1:01 AM

Problem 3: Not immediately doing something about a situation does not mean it is condoned. There are legal issues that have to be addressed, and that can take time. you might be right but taking time means to R'Sity doing nothing because the already got information about a warez board and a list of names and all the members and merchants are still here. :(( The only comment you get is: Send the proof Well the got the proof but they still doing nothing. Maybe I have to post this proof here in front of all :))

XSashaX ( ) posted Tue, 06 August 2002 at 1:17 AM

Hey, post away! We'll be right here. :) Sasha

kbennett ( ) posted Tue, 06 August 2002 at 1:43 AM

If it's the same proof I think you're referring to, i.e. an ftp username/pass combo, it didn't work. Which gives us no proof at all, and plum zero evidence to pass on to any ISP. Kevin.

audre ( ) posted Tue, 06 August 2002 at 2:07 AM

Maybe I have to post this proof here in front of all :)) that would be most refreshing. Marc, it is rather a waste of time to keep having to reply to these types of non-direct but threatening innuendo posts. so please, if you have something that YOU can take to police or the ISP, what have you been waiting for? NOTICE i said YOU... yes, YOU can do these things. if you REALLY AND TRULY cared about this or had proof i would think you would do the right thing and get this warez ring you keep talking about shut down, no? also, please remember that when a member is banned from this site, this means that their clones are too. the TOS is quite lenient in giving folks several chances to behave, in most cases... so the fact that someone gets banned means they've been unable to control themselves on more than one occassion. thanks

aleks ( ) posted Tue, 06 August 2002 at 5:42 AM

bah, it's the same old "if you don't know who this is, then i won't tell you, but you must stop him immediatly!" if you have the proof then go to police/isp/fbi/software company, otherwise stop wasting the bandwith.

I wondered when you would start this crap again, Marcabros... Feeling bored today or what? Haven't you noticed yet that without proof you'll get shot down again and again and again?

Another idea might be for you to contact the artists/merchants who's products have been warez so that they can do something about it, since they have more of legal recourse than Renderosity (or any other website) has. Renderosity's function is to provide a place for artists together and share for the artists who come here. Not play Internet Bounty hunter and bop around the Internet trying to shut warez sites down. The best help you can provide if you are serious about helping out the artists here who are ripped off by cheap jagoffs is to contact the merchants who are being ripped off by said warez kitties or sites and let them deal with it. Also, the Internet is a BIG place... just because you see someone on a warez board named Audre distributing Vicky 2 or something, doesn't mean that it is Renderosity's Audre that is doing the warezing. Go after the site what hosts the warez, not so much the individuals. In doing so, you disrupt not just ONE warez kitty but a whole LOT of warez kitties that way. Jack

Heya Jack, cam, et. all! How y'all doing this evening? Good to hear it! Cambert: ditto! Jack: No offense, bud, but I think you've made a huge error. Unbeknownst to most people, the proper term is kiddies, not kitties. The term was originally coined by the hackers who felt their skill was being played off and dismissed because a group of little fuggin nitwits learned how to use l33t sp33k and share files. Don't know why people changed it from kiddies to kitties, but a few people will gladly correct the term if they hear it used. Note: hackers generally hate kiddies, and gave up l33t sp33k because it became widely used by the warez community. cub-Note: I am not a hacker, just have a friend who used to be very involved with the whole phreaks/hackers scene, and corrected me when I made the same mistake you just did. ;) Please donut be offended, Jack. You know I respect you a great deal, but, in this case, you're wrong. ( not about anything else, mind you, just the term. :P ) Peace, love, and all the rest of that horseshit, Paul P.S.: Welcome back Marcabros! It's good to know that your psychotic break will be giving us enduring laughter at your expense well into the future! ( What kind of a guy makes clones to return to a site he was laughed off of to get laughed at some more? Must be a masochist... )

cooler ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 8:08 PM

Entropic, I beg to differ but the proper term is, as Jack said, 'warez kittys' as opposed to 'script kiddies'. Kittys because of not only the way they 'meow' if they don't get what they want when they want, but they way they will suckle up to the nearest open FTP pub, drain it dry, & whine for more :-)

Crescent ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 8:17 PM

cooler - you and Jack must be dog lovers. Any cat lover will tell you that cats are far superior to warez kiddies whose emotional and ethical growth has been so stunted that they resemble little babies who only understand their own needs, no one elses.

cooler ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 8:32 PM

You'll get no arguement from me Crescent, I belong to a solid black shorthair, who just about has me trained to his liking :-) (he's sulking now because I rearranged the living room furniture & he can't ambush me by jumping from the back of the couch to my computer chair anymore :-) The term 'warez kitty' was coined just as a convenience. Personally I think 'warez rock' (as in "dumb as a box of...") would be more appropro.

Jack D. Kammerer ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 11:15 PM

Paul, I am not offended, saw the term used before and just repeated it.... how about we just term them all as Jagoffs less confusing that way :o) And I am both a cat AND dog lover... hell animals are far more intelligent then humans, they don't try and screw each other over... :o) Jack

Chailynne ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 11:34 PM

Hmm... it is kiddies. I always thought it funny when someone used the term kitties instead. LOL I just never said anything before. Kiddies because of the younger people doing the warez, not kitties because they meow. In that case it would be warez puppies because puppies whine. ;)

darkphoenix ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 7:22 AM

if i remember, the term kiddies came into effect as an insult from hackers because of all the young wannabe hackers who starting stealing the lingo and using hacking software and trojans to break into someones system instead of any actual hacking skills, much the same way some 3d professionals snub poser users. warez kiddies came from those same people who started using things like irc and warez sites to distribute software they got from an actual cracker and distributing it as if they had something to do with it. Eventually it came to mean everyone who grabbed warez because most of them knew nothing about hacking and warez and were stupid enough to let the other kiddies get into their systems.

It kitties, Chailynne. It's been "kitties" since the late 80's/early 90's. ;]
