Subject: Giant Trash? My first trashy render. Help?!

It was time to create a great scene using all those lovely, nasty trash. But what is this I see? Is the trash huge, or did the rest of the world shrink? I just used the first Marlin image I could find.. Doesn't he look funny, dressed in his customized bodysuit, about ready to step in a giant pile of dog poop?! So did I do something wrong, or is all this trash supposed to be this big?

hogwarden ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 10:10 AM

LOL... Marlin's been in the wash, Ron! Next time use a 40 degree cycle. Looks like the trash-person (sorry... I've forgotten their username and I've not dl'd any) must have forgotten to scale the models correctly for Poser. You'll probably need to adjust the "scale" dial to the same number in each of the models... trial and error.Lots of other ways to do it, too... but I need to rush to the lav!!! Must have been a bad pint......... H:)

queri ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 10:38 AM

On the other hand, makes it much easier to try the full body condom. Try a 50% reduction in scale to start. Use body of whatever prop. Take it down slowly from there. Leave the poop big-- maybe there's a Clydesdale around.:)) Emily

hogwarden ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 10:47 AM

Hey... do you want to try a higher resolution texture on the ground? It looks stretched. (pet peeve!) H:)

jchimim ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 10:52 AM

Well, at least since he's barefooted, the dog poo won't be stuck to his shoes. (Just squishing 'twixt the toes")

Um, well I tried another image of Marlin and the alley, and the trash. Whaddya think? The alley is direct from Poserworld. I had done several hundred renders featuring the alley in my utterly dreadful newbie days. I usually use such items "as they are, or out of the box." So far I haven't succeeded in rescaling any item I've tried. Boohoo. I had such trashy ideals in mind.

sturkwurk ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 11:53 AM

Ron, do you know how to rescale a figure or prop? (it's a dial adjustment) Are the trash items poser ready? Or do you import them as .obj files?

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 12:06 PM

Uhm well some of the trash items ARE a tad big.... due to the fact that I didn't think af Poser's relative scale. So I didn't have a poser human beside the trash (well some of it I did) and well, it turned out...big. But the cargo box IS supposed to be that big, it's intended for a homeless to sleep in :o) But apart from that: Yes scale it, usually down to about 20%. Sorry for the confusion. But well, those pictures are way FUNNY!

Here's how you do it, Ron. I'm sorry the picture is so big. I didn't have any of ernyoka's trashbits loaded in runtime yet so I used Traveler's Organics which are huge!!! If you will notice on the menus under the display, Organics number something or other is chosen. That makes it show up on the dials to the right. As you can see on the dials I scaled it to around 40% to make attractive clothing for Mike--NOT!:) It took all of two seconds.

Emily

crisjon1950 ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 12:54 PM

Oh boy, I'm glad I didn't offened ernyoka1. (I can't spell TrekkieGrrrl....?!). I really appreciate all this trashy stuff. Doug, yes, this stuff is supposed to be "Poser ready." I'm suprised I'm the first one who spotted the obvious largness of the props. Or I was the first one to talk about the issue. I've traditionally avoided any prop that was not Poser Ready (imported from obj files for instance.). Usually I have lousy luck at scaling. If you've seen messages on my struggle with the Newsroom, you know what I mean. (Apparently the people who told me it was so easy to rescale the newsroom had not tried it themselvs...) I'll debate about the Trash Situation. Maybe I'll just leave things the way they are. But, oh gosh, that syringe is taller than Marlin.

hmatienzo ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 1:31 PM

I don't see why that should be a problem, Ron... when you pick the prop, or any object for that matter, you turn the dial that says "Scale". Turn it into the negative to shrink it, and that's all! I did a lot of trash pictures these days, and they work fine. For me, I prefer them large so I can find them easier when I import them, anyway.

wait, wait, wait... I know why they're like that... "Honey I shrunk the Marlin!"

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

XSashaX ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 1:41 PM

Hey Ron...try this. :) Load a piece of trash into your scene then BEFORE you do anything else, go to the dial that says Scale (not xScale, yScale or zScale) and turn the dail from 100% to a lower percentage and you will see the trash getting smaller. :) Then you can use the xTran, yTran or zTran to move the trash to anywhere you want the trash to be. :) hope this helps! Sasha (and yes I did this with the burgerbox) :)

CryptoPooka ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 1:42 PM

Considering how small the trash items usually end up in a scene, it's actually nice to have them come into the scene so large. At least that way you can easily find them in a busy scene instead of hunting. "Okay, was this tiny blob the new one, or was it this one ... or that one, or ... "

crisjon1950 ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 2:47 PM

file_19151.jpg

I actually loaded several trash items by themselves, one at a time, and resized them to 20%. Then I saved them to the props library. Then I created a new scene, and brought the stuff into the scene. As you can see I had some limited success. Some stuff is actually composed of 2 parts, and I don't know how to handle that. For instance, there is apparently and inside and outside in the can of bans. The syringe is two parts, etc. I just don't know how large some items should be. I still need to add a texture to the morphable puddle I guess?! I got frustrated, and Marlin is upset that I've been messing with his trashy world. "You have your own world, leave mine alone!" Gosh, sorry. I'll figure this out eventually.

hmatienzo ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 3:07 PM

I rather like Marlin sized like this! You could always claim you were doing a protest against the overtaking of man through garbage in the big cities! Gosh, that's quite a mouthful, huh. ;-)

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 3:36 PM

LOL I like your pics, Ron :o) As for the puddle, there are textures included, they are (if you installed it the default way) in runtimetexturesTrekkieGrrrl and they're called greengoo and spilledbeans. The spilledbeans has a spilledbeansBUMP for bumpmapping the beans. As for the syringe: Well it is a bit annoying to rescale, but once you find out that the [inside thingie] is parented to the [outside thingie] it's easier. First rescale the outside and then the inside. To about 10-15%. Then they cling together again as they should do. The can of beans, well there are the can and the beans. Just set them to the same scale. Again, the beans are parented to the can so when you move tha can, the beans should stay inside :o) Hope that helps. And again, I really LOVE your pics, actually it gives the trash a whole new dimentin to see it so BIG!

Actually, Marlin is "regular-sized." So is the alley. The trash props are various sizes.. either correct to begin with, or altered by me, good or bad. Oh, thanks for the tips. When you resize the bean can, which part of the bean can do you add to the Props library? I added each one separately, and one said it was parented. However, they still came out as two separate pieces.

Thanks TrekkieGrrrl. :)

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 4:06 PM

Ron ~ I add the beans AND the can at the same time, just be sure to tick both items in the "Select Subset" box. Glad it was of some help. At least it has taught me to be more carefull when making the props, to make them at least a little smaller ;o) But then again, there are actually HUGE difference in the size of Guy D'Fault G and Michael. so...which one should I choose as a measure point? (yeah I know: rather Mike than the Default Guy...) Roy G ~ I see your vacation is over :o) and I gotta ask you: What phone number did you use to get THAT pizzaboy (sorry: girl) to come? L Cute pic btw.

You can always select a figures "body" and resize the whole figure in one shot.

At least it has taught me to be more carefull when making the props, to make them at least a little smaller ;o)" Hey, I'm the dumb one who is having trouble figuring how to cope with all this trash! I Love Your Trash! Such a Wealth Of Trash.! ![Message671422.jpg](http://www.renderosity.com/photos/Message671422.jpg) ***** Doug, buddy: "You can always select a figures "body" and resize the whole figure in one shot. " Where and when?! I'm a dummy. ![Message671414.jpg](http://www.renderosity.com/photos/Message671414.jpg) I've temporarily left the trash aside. I really want to get Jill Chill together, and in her wardrobe so Jill and Marlin can get into some comics together. Jill's original face was too severe, and her mouth would "break" when she smiled. I fiddled with Jill's face, and then cleaned up some mess on the updo hairdo. What do you think of the New Jill Chill. Please be gentle.

queri ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 4:56 PM

I Love the new Jill Chill!!! She's Cute and Perky-- the judges like em perky. Really good job, Ron. Emily

Thanks for the compliment. I'm starting a new wardrobe for Jill. This is probably all I'll be able to do today. I need to take a break from fun and try to work on a friend's computer. I've already dubbed it the "Computer from Hell." I'll likely put it to rest, one way or another, tonight.

Here you go Ron, hope this helps...

The only "catch" is... if you rescale a figure with conforming clothes, props, hair etc... you'll also have to select that stuff and scale it down to the same scale as the figure. (conform everything first!)

Doug

crisjon1950 ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 7:54 PM

Thanks for the tip Doug. Now I know what you're talking about. There is no need or desire to resize my characters. All I need to do is resize the props so they're the proper size.

sturkwurk ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 8:51 PM

Ron, try the same method on the props. Doug

Yes, well I'm working on that. In the meantime, I put Marlin and Jill in the Alley. I started adding props from scratch, but some of them seemingly disappeared. I guess Marlin and Jill really should watch where they're going.

hmatienzo ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 9:04 PM

Hmmm... most of the time, when you PARENT the outfit to the body and then scale, the outfit shrinks as well. Oh and Ron, your lady is wearing quite the killer outfit! Is that your own design???

L'ultima fòrza è nella morte.

crisjon1950 ( ) posted Wed, 07 August 2002 at 9:19 PM

Thanks for the compliment. The alley and cocktail dress are from Poserworld (PWFW). Marlin's clothes are basically from (DAZ) Mike Clothing pack. All clothes except the shoes were re-sized using The Tailor! Mike's hair is the Yann hair from Neftis, and Jill has the Updo hair, cleaned up a bit using the including "no-mess" MAT Pose files.

OK, I've resized many props to see if they can finally all be in proportion. The cigarette pack, cigarette, newspaper and folded linen are all original size. Everything else was scaled to various sizes. Now tell me, which ones need to be resized further?!

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 12:29 AM

Uhm if that's the condom laying next to the pill pack I'd say it would need som rescaling G unless of course an elephant came by.... Also the pill pack is too big. The fishbones are in my opinion too big as well, but they're so ugly anyway so better scale them to 0... The newspaper looks ok, though I nomally make it a bit BIGGER when I use it. I guess that depends on what size of newspaper you're accustomed to. Then I'm curious. What's that glob in front of the milk? Could it be the chewing gum? I'm not sure but I like how it looks. Oh and I like the way you've made the bottle look. Mine usually looks far less transperant. And Ron: Where did you get those pallets? I need those :o)

crisjon1950 ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 7:46 AM

Thanks for the tips, my friend. Before I forget, the pallets are part of the Poserworld (PWFW) Alley scene. The alley has been a PWFW freebie, at various times. It was one of the first scenes I used. THe alley is now a part of the PWFW subscription site offerings. Ah, the Condom has been significantly reduced from its former size, and could stand further reduction. My problem is that I seem to have no way of gauging such things by myself. I could buy a condom and lay it on my desk next to a pack of cigarettes, but my wife might have some questions! Message671422.jpg OK, I can reduce the pillpack and the fishbones. I know what you mean about the newspaper. There are several sizes and formats. I rarely read the paper. OH, the "glob" in front of the milk carton is the hubcap, reduced by 20%. The folded linen is behind Jill's foot.

sturkwurk ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 10:46 AM

In reference to the correct condom size Ron wrote "My problem is that I seem to have no way of gauging such things by myself." ROTFLMAO Hey Ron... unless you're some sort of genetic mutant... I'll give you one clue how to gauage the size of a normal condom. and if you are a genetic mutant (ala Mr. Ed) then my hat's off to you! (Heck, you could probably be a hat stand!

crisjon1950 ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 10:09 PM

Thanks for the laugh Doug. I assure you I'm no mutant. It would be easier if I were able to line up all the items involved in the trash picture and see how they all compare in size. Now, if I don't have a condom, should I (ahem) place my "package" up against a pack of smokes or a milk carton, for comparison? Oh, ouch I don't have a milk carton.
