Subject: Vue 4.1 material preview bug?

Are anyone else's material and bitmap previews working in Vue 4.1? All I get now is a stack of pseudo-randow Windows icons, which makes it really difficult to see if I've chosen the correct material/file. Re-saving the material doesn't seem to generate a new preview, so I'm out of ideas.

This doesn't sound good. My previews have been fine. You could delve into your hard drive via Windows Explorer and find the material folder(s). Inside the folder, delete any Material.prv files that you find. Vue will automatically generate a new preview file upon your next browsing session.

Hmmm, that doesn't seem to do the trick. I should mention that the "Load Material" button has the usual display of Vue's built-in materials, and I've just discovered that new materials I've created or added will also display if I put them in the Materials folder at the top level, rather than in a sub-folder like I've been doing. (They show up when you select "Personal".) I suspect it's this preview mode that the material.prv file manages. This takes care of half my problem, but prevents me from organizing my materials the way I want to. What I'm actually refering to is the preview that's part of the "File" option, when you explicitly locate a file that isn't included in the Materials, or if you're looking for a bitmap, which doesn't have a selection dialog like the rest of the built-in functions. There's a little window in the lower left that is supposed to show the image, but all I get is trash. Interestingly enough, if I select a bitmap, the preview in the object's color pane shows just fine. It's just the file selection preview that's hosed.

I have already explained this ten times in this forum. Here again: 1. You can perfectly organize your materials in Vue. In the MATERIALS folder, create as many new subfolders you like and put your saved materials in it. Then, in Vue, right-clickin the material window and select LOAD MATERIAL from the list. When the material browser window opens, click NEW at its bottom, locate the sub-folder you've created inside your MATERIAL folder. Open it and choose ANY of the mat files in there. Then click OK and again OK. Now your new folder shows up in the material list. Do this for every sub-folder you have created. 2. In passing by FILE from the Material browser window, you ONLY can see the images of the *.mat files in the lower left corner, no bitmaps will show up. If you want to use a bitmap as a mapping, insteed of right-clicking in the material window, just double-click in it, select MAPPED PICTURE and LOAD. Hope this helps. Guitta

Guitta, my apologies for making you explain this for the 11th time :-) I suppose I should read the manual some day. All my new materials, objects, filters and functions are now displaying nicely in the browser, as promised. However, I still can't see previews of the bitmaps, which don't have their own built-in browser (near as I can tell, anyway). The attached BMP shows what I'm getting these days, since I upgraded to 4.1. It may be a leftover DLL or other Vue function that didn't get updated or copied properly, but I can't figure it out.

Oops, I should have checked the size of the image before I posted it. Sorry about that...

Don't worry ! You have to change your Color Depth of your Windows Screen. (In your Windows Display properties Menu) Maybe you are in 16 bits(default) You should use 24 or 32 bits (it depends of your video card I mean) I had the same pb with Vue 4.06. But no-one at E-on can explain that... Because they don't have such pb (And so many Vue Users..) They told me to use 32 bits Color depth.. and it's working.. Denis

Denis, that did the trick! Thanks a bunch; I'm a happy Vue-er once again.
