is there a trick not described in the manual?? whatever i try - i never get the smartprop dialog when saving a prop into the library palette. here is what i do: i use the prop (an selfmade ankle ring), scale it to fit, move it, choose as parent the right shin and save it to the library palette - in the next dialog i only choose the ring to save. that's it. the next time i load the ring it appears at the exact postion where i once saved it. it doesn't care about poses or parents at all. i tried the procedure with IK on and IK off - no difference. i am crazy. i think it could be a bug in the german poser version ...? or maybe i am too dull ... if someone knows ... thanks joekurz (aka jenay)

You might have omitted to set the prop's parent to the desired body part before saving the prop. In the above example, the ball is positioned & selected. Then choose Object - Change Parent - mark the desired body part (and tick "Inherit Bends Of Parent" if you want that effect). Then save. If Poser asks you if you want to save as a smart prop, you've succeeded in parenting the prop.

The only thing I can think of is to double check that it is going into the props library. The key dialog you are looking for is asking you to save as a smart prop. If that isn't appearing after the prop has been parented then something is not right for sure. Try rebooting and try again. Anton anton@daz3d.com

try parenting it to a zeroed figure. Perhaps if the figure is posed it is causing a conflict in location.

I think I know what's happening. When you click the plus-sign to save the prop to the library palette, you get a dialog called "Set Name". Do not click the "Select Subset" button. Just give the prop a name, and click OK.

I can't seem to do it either. Load prop, move to location, set parent, save to PROPS library - no smart prop option!

Stupid question here but do you have the patch on poser? If not that might be the cause

Jaager ( ) posted Sun, 11 August 2002 at 3:21 PM

Sometimes it works for me and sometimes no. There is a way to make sure it happens, if it can happen Near the top the file, you will see this: includeInDepthCue 1 parent UNIVERSE channels If you edit it to this: includeInDepthCue 1 smartparent rFoot:1 channels with rFoot:1 being whichever group you want as the parent. Often, a simple text edit is faster than banging your head against a wall.

hi there - just succeeded with my smartprop porblem :) :) Little_Dragon had the solution: **When you click the plus-sign to save the prop to the library palette, you get a dialog called "Set Name". Do not click the "Select Subset" button. Just give the prop a name, and click OK. ** it is not stated in the manual at all ... i posted my ankle rings in the freestuff section - as a small "thank you". joekurz (aka jenay) :)
