Subject: Poser 4 Hidden Feature - Tree Maker

how can you make the "tree maker" in poser 4 appear? i saw one in a tutorial but there's no way it tells how you can make it show up.

Launch Poser. Type the word "hair". Marvel at its uselessness.

I always try to trick poser into being useful for things it wasn't intended to. This is treemaker on a box applied 8 times over and white. Could be useful for creating boas and feathered trans maps. Anton anton@daz3d.com

it won't render so you have to manually export the image. ALot of program "flunky" procedurals can be great for making textures.

Well I tried it but since you can't render it, I have the lines from the light controls showing :( Any how I tried a Christmas wreath.

That's easy enough to fix, just go into the light properties and uncheck visible. Looks cool!

IS there anyone who knows how the different controls affect the outcome? I fiddled with it for an hour, and couldn't manage to get it to do much but either create a mass of LOOOONG hair, or really short dots on the vertices. I also tried to make the colors like you all did, but couldn't manage to change the color? Al

Attached Link: http://www.eurus.dti.ne.jp/~masasi/PROGRAM/furfur.html

You can use a programm called FurFur to make .obj's out of the fur. I don't know how it works as I haven't tried it.

saxon ( ) posted Sun, 11 August 2002 at 4:21 PM

'Thing is though, Masasi put a clause in to say you can't use anything you make with his fur fur or his droplet droplet....

maclean ( ) posted Sun, 11 August 2002 at 4:58 PM

Al, Start with all the dials at minimum and increase them one at a time to see the effect. I don't think you can control the color. I think it's random. mac

pokeydots ( ) posted Sun, 11 August 2002 at 6:09 PM

you can change the color in the material editor :)

Fur Progtam is cool. That is how I made Full & Feathered except I placed them by hand. Perfect example of repetative transmapped geometry.

You can sketch render it. I don't know why it doeesn't render normally, but if you just have to have it....

Director ( ) posted Mon, 12 August 2002 at 7:43 AM

FurFur is one of the best programs of MASA's collection. I fully endorse it for short hair in poser.

sgreco ( ) posted Tue, 13 August 2002 at 5:39 AM

oh my god I never even knew this was there!!!! Is it me or was this not in the book?? are there any OTHER hidden features? tell! tell!

Dave_III ( ) posted Tue, 13 August 2002 at 1:49 PM

Yeah, I'd like to hear about these myself!

sgreco ( ) posted Tue, 13 August 2002 at 3:18 PM

hm its true, neat as it is --it wont render normally. why? is there some way to coax it to?

It appears the only way to "coax" it to render is using one of Masa's tools, or an object editor like milkshape or max. In fact, the reason I think it doesn't outright render can be seen in milkshape (maybe it's just a flaw?). The hair parts appear as large triangles...

Oh well, looks to be working fine in Poser 5, that's all that matters to me.

The above image is the ball prop with hair processed through Masa's FurFur tool.

Check this out, is it remotely possible that it was a basis for the Sketch Editor? The reason it sketches is that it sketches a rendition of the current display, to prove it, get the red border around a part and open the sketch editor. If you do it right and render in color, it will render the border in red!
