Subject: Importing Poser to Carrara (Transparency Maps)

wolfdd ( ) posted Wed, 08 March 2000 at 2:09 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 6:59 PM

The last two days I spent a lot of time, trying to transfer characters from Poser to Carrara. Some problems, mostly concering texture maps I could solve, but the transparency maps drive me crazy... As far as I see this, Poser uses a variable transparency. Only this explains, how you do get real good looking hair with trans-maps. Carrara seems to know two states only, transparent or not transparent when using a map. RGB 0/0/0 or 255/255/255 of the map become transparent only. As a result of that the good looking hair from poser looks real bad in Carrara. I experimented a lot with the shaders to find a way out, yet without good results. Any ideas how to solve this problem? wolfdd

Hey wolfdd The only thing I have figured out was to use a layers list and put your trans map in the shader channel and a value in the opacity channel and mess with the value. I have gotten Allie's hair to look pretty good although I haven't tried any of the other trans mapped hair styles yet. Ed

Hi Ed, thanks for your hint. I will try that. I will loose some information of the poser original, but maybe it`s a good compromise. wolfdd

Hey Masa Thanks for the tip. It never occurred to me to use the trans maps like you did in your screen shot. Ed

Hi Ed, You're welcome. I had to work hard to find the way. I really thought... to transfer "KyokoHair" from Poser to Carrara. I am PoserFactory's member. Please visit my web site. http://www.eurus.dti.ne.jp/~masasi/ MASA
