Subject: Eyebrows

I'm having a problem with the eyebrows on my poser figures. Sometimes the white blocks disappear, sometimes they don't. I'm still fairly new at this, and don't really know how to get rid of those blocks. I'd rather have them gone and use the 'brows that come with the textures I want to use. Anyone that can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

the millenium figures have a browsgone morph on the head, but it doesn't always solve the problem, it can leave a nasty hole in the forehead. Rob

Yeah, I tried that, but the blocks were still there. I set the transp and such all the way to 100%, that didn't work. It's like it happens on accident when the blocks are gone, and I can't figure out what it is that I'm doing, so that I can do it on purpose.

do you have the texture set on them? if you do get rid of it, plain black colour for everything should get rid of it

Poppi ( ) posted Wed, 14 August 2002 at 6:45 PM

okay...here is the solution. download a free texture that comes with .mat files....apply the mat pose to your poser figure. then go to the render/material option in poser....import the texture you want to use...but, keep the color settings that come with the mat file. note...if the mat files come with a transmap for eyelashes...you must use a transmap for eyelashes, though not necessarily the one you got the mat file with.

aaaahh it's late, it's 1 in the morning here, I need to get some sleep, well that's my excuse for forgetting something like that poppi :) Rob

lol...i'm in bed by ten...all the better to get up and go to my..."i'm not really sure what i do" business, early. i must be busy, though, since i opt for the easy 10 out of 10 times. pop...pop...poppi!!!

Is there a detailed tutorial somewhere regarding eyebrows? I spent all of last night figuring out how to map eyelashes. I finally figured it out. I thought that I could do the same things for eyebrows, but I too get the blocked eyebrows. I can see the eyebrow texture underneath, but I can't get rid of the blocking eyebrow. Poppi -- you said to "keep the colo0r setting that comes with the mat file." I know this may be a stupid question, but how do I know what the color setting for the mat file is and how do I apply it to eyebrow? I like a lot of details if you can give them :) Thanks in advance!

Poppi ( ) posted Wed, 14 August 2002 at 8:15 PM

okay...just don't change them when importing your new texture. even if you check...apply change to all body parts, do not go and change the colors you got from your mat file. i know it is better to learn how to equate this stuff oneself. but, i don't have enough hours in my days. the mat file will correctly set the colors and, even when to apply the texture mats to your poser figure. do a search, here, for eowynn. she has some of the best victoria textures, free, going...and they all come with mat files.

ronknights.com for tutorials but here's the quick & dirty on millinum eyebrows... for vicky & the millinum kids (even the boys) there are 2 eyebrow materials the material "eyebrows" is really the skin beneath the eyebrow hairs use the same map setting as "skinhead" "upper eyebrows" this is the grocho looking part and is designed to be used with a transmap. This is also the area affected by the brows_gone & brows_in morphs (name changes for some reason depending on vicky version) use the same way you use the eyelashes & in some cases will use the same transmap. if you end up with that hole in the head look than you probably made the "eyebrows" transparent. Mike & Steph are a bit different, they also have "Eyebrows" & "upper eyebrows" materials but the "eyebrows" are NOT part of the skin. treat both materials the same as eyelashes. summary vicky = eyebrow to use head map, upper eyebrows to use transmap mike = both eyebrow & upperbrow to use transmap

Attached Link: Ron's Freebies & Tutorials.

The easiest way is to use textures with MAT file poses. DAZ's textures do that for you. You can view the tutorials at my site. I have one for Vicky and one for Mike. The tutorials include screenshots that take you every step of the way. The link I provided takes you directly to my newly re-modeled Freebie and Tutorial site. The ronknights.com site is more geared to artwork and general Poser stuff. Or look at both sites just for fun.

I'm glad to help!

melanie ( ) posted Thu, 15 August 2002 at 11:52 AM

Also, be sure to set the Transparency Falloff to 0% Sometimes this will help. Melanie

Oh wow, you guys are great. I'll try this and see if it helps. Thanks a lot.

xoconostle ( ) posted Thu, 15 August 2002 at 12:53 PM

Try this whenever you have these problems, whether you're using millennium figures or not: 1. Set Eyebrows, Upper Eyebrows, and Eyelashes to 100% transparency (both trans settings.) 2. Do not apply textures to any of these settings. 3. Apply the transparency map (usually named something like "lash trans" or "trans lash" to all three. (At the transparency box, just in case that isn't obvious.) 4. Set the color for regular and upper eyebrows to white, eyelashes to black. You can adjust brow hues later if you need to. If that doesn't fix all three components (which it usually does for me,) tweak settings from there one-by-one and see what happens. The part that surprises most people is setting texture to "none." Some character textures work very differently, as we all know, but the above method has saved me from the evil white eyebrow blocks many times.

melanie ( ) posted Thu, 15 August 2002 at 5:43 PM

With Vicky, you can't put transparency on the Eyebrows. Only on the Upper Eyebrows. If you apply transparency to the Eyebrows, you'll drill a black hole into her head. Eyebrows..........0% Transparency Upper Eyebrows....100% Transparency ..................0% Transparency Falloff Michael, on the other hand, requires Transparency 100% on both Eyebrows and Upper Eyebrows. Don't ask me why. Melanie
