Subject: Poser 5 Release Date?

Blacksteel ( ) posted Sun, 18 August 2002 at 3:45 AM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 12:29 AM

Ok so, this is proably the most asked question. But Curiouslabs simply says "Comming Soon".. This is not a movie!? When is this program going to be released? When exactly do we hit into late summer? In Austrailia its Winter! Ok, so i don't live in Austrailia, but do you think they could be a little more vague? =) Does anyone have the smallest sniff to when Poser 5 will be avialable? Blacksteel

In an earlier thread Kupa said he's a fan of Tuesdays. Incidentally, because I know that the other 13 animators will soon be here. What do you get if you combine Poser 5, a wind object and dynamic cloth together? Answer: Marilyn Munro. LawnDart, you must have done it...

CL don't yet know themselves. They probably have an intended date, but P5 is currently out in beta testing, and, if the beta testers find any bugs, they will have to be fixed. In the worst case a significant bug may require a major rewrite, which could delay the release by months. If CL were sure that the product was ready to sell, there would be no need for beta testing. There are some good signs however that the product is stable, and I am sure that when CL are satisfied we will probably know within days. Bill

You a beta tester then?

Well here http://www.curiouslabs.com/ it says "Poser 5, the highly anticipated update to Poser 4 is due out later this summer" And since this is Augest and we are comming to the end of summer, I bet the answer is SOON! grin

A lot of people forget this fact, but Summer does NOT officially end until September 21. Most people think of the end of August as the end of Summer ... not true, unfortunately in this case. So we could have as much as month to wait. Still, that's not too long IMHO. -Tim

I think the point that this isn't a movie is the important one. I code for a living, and it isn't writing the program that's the time consuming part, its the debugging. Which means if you're lucky, and it works almost first time, you can make incredible progress, while at times its possible to hit problems that take anything ip to weeks to solve. There's a saying that if builders made buildings the way programmers write programs, the first woodpecker that came along would destroy civilisation. The counter-point to this is that if programmers wrote programs the way builders make buildings, all code would be a variant on "Hello World"!

I sincerely hope they've been spending the last few years since the last version doing just this. See ya Tuesday...

Well here is my reasoning... Shamms Morter's (sic) told me his book is coming out end of september, and since I am guessing that it is not a re-vision of teh poser 4 book, but it being a poser 5 book I would have to deduct that poser 5 is going to be out by the end of september

Shamms Mortier doesn't know any more than you do. And since he will be publishing his book before he gets the program-- takes longer to print a book than to print cds, you know the manual and the box are done-- well, I wouldn't be looking to good old Shamms for the skinny. I'm willing to bet he's still gonna be putting p4 teenage girl heads on sharks and considering it cool. Emily

I doubt CL would announce "end of summer" if P5 was still in beta. I would guess it went gold a while ago. There are many unpredictable variables that would keep them from announcing an exact date.

We had FLURRIES yesterday!!! It is the end of summer here!!! I really don't care(well much anyway) when it comes out, because the mac version won't be out till later... =(

On the EGISYS website it says "Till September 5th, Poser 4 and Poser Pro Pack are available as single product and bundle at a very low price! ". So I don't think Poser 5 will be released before then. They want to sell as many Poser 4/ pro pack bundles as they can before 5 hits the shelf. If you believe the "Tuesday" clue, then it could be Tuesday the 10th. Or as it's Poser "5", it could well be the "5" th itself!

I have a sneaky feeling that if it has gone gold it was very recently. The Beta testers were only allowed to start posting pics a few days ago (thanks again Steve) so it's possible it's almost ready to go. I'm sure we'll know more as soon as Steve thinks it's time to tell us. Rob
