Subject: Complaint about member

xvcoffee ( ) posted Sat, 24 August 2002 at 9:59 AM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 1:54 PM

A member named timoteo1 has become a nuisance in the Poser forum.

Although I do not specifically disagree with a small portion of his argument his obsessive trolling and whining about specific members is making it difficult to read threads in the forum. Particularly threads where significant announcements are being made and serious issues are being discussed.

The member seems particularly concerned about users of the Macintosh system. A minor problem with said system currently is the absence of information regarding the availability of Poser 5 for that system. The delay is the prerogative of Curious Labs who would surely have realised there will be some protest. The majority of members using that system, myself included, are not too troubled over this situation. A variety of members are also being very impatient and critical of delays and non information about the applications upgrade.

timoteo1 however seems to want make it a personal undertaking to respond to every thread where the non-simultaneous platform release is raised with his inane drivel. His entries are almost identical, word-for-word, as if he already has it in a WP document or text macro ready to insert. Lately he has singled out myself and another member as if to provoke us to respond. The other member has debated with him on the subject when it has been raised, but timoteo1 has continued to name myself and that member in successive threads since.

What is his mission? I dont see any work of his in galleries or free stuff that would back up any claim to being any sort of 3D artist of any kind, let alone an animator and least of all either one of the eminent 12 animators.

He claims to be some sort of skilled industry veteran but his various posts to various threads dont often support this. In fact none of his entries seem to make any sort of major contribution to any subject. In addition hes been emailing Curious Labs constantly with ridiculous criticisms about the Poser 5 manual and imagined faults with the application that hes allegedly found in the manual. These faults are very rarely verified by any Renderosity member or by Curious Labs staff.

Recently he has been name-calling a third member.

I would not like to see a thread locked and have members with legitiment enquiries disadvantaged or the release of Poser 5 compromised down to this wally. Other members have criticised the Mac system and users of but his champaign has not been taken up by like minded people.

Were all enjoying reading Renderosity and especially the Poser since the anouncement of version 5 but like I wrote earlier there are significant announcements being made and serious issues being discussed which dont require his input.

The last serious discussion into the two systems ended when SJ accused BG of putting too much butter on his scones.

I agree that timoteo1 has been way arrogant and a raging pain the Curious Labs' ass with all his demands for P5 to include largely esoteric stuff, but I believe a warning from teh staff should be sufficient. And yes, he attacked Terminusnord, calling him "Turdanusnerd" or some noise... basically acting like some kinda alt.flame newbie on his first flame-binge. OTOH, I still believe a stiff warning should suffice. /P

xv, you're right. Let him seal his own fate; I tried to warn him, but he persists in being a little flamer, so whatever happens to him, happens to him. /P

Ditto here. He's an "idiot's delight" of misinformation and hyperbole. Like having an annoying child interrupting while the adults are talking.

Is he the only person in Renderosity to be a pain in the ass and call people names? Is he the only person to post inane drivel?! Is it a crime to disagree with Curious Labs or find fault with the manual? I don't agree with this guy, but I don't believe in double standards. If you don't like what he says and does, ignore him.

"Is he the only person in Renderosity to be a pain in the ass and call people names?" ...and not get banned for it? I believe that would be yes for the most part. While not perfect, the rules must still be enforced, even against trolls clever enough to just barely breach protocol. "Is he the only person to post inane drivel?! Is it a crime to disagree with Curious Labs or find fault with the manual?" The point isn't in his disagreement with CL... we all do that from time to time, and we even do it right now in anticipation of P5. The point is not that he's disagreeing with CL per se, instead the point is that he's trolling the Poser forum, and all the classic signs are there of a troll, and as such I'm calling "Troll" on his presence, pure and simple. grumble If the kid wants a flame war, and I knew I could do it without getting banned myself, I'd flame him into smoldering oblivion without a second thought. grumble How-ever, I'd prefer not to be banned myself, as I've got too much time, cash, and interest invested here to lose. Therefore, I choose to play by the rules here and report the troll as a candidate for the '/dev/null member category.' The rest is up to the mods, and as always I shall respect their decision. /P

Thanks for explaining things. I guess I really don't know this person. I have ignored plenty of forum threads lately, especially the overly-numerous threads about Poser 5.. Most notably the threads complaining about the Mac Version, other countries, etc etc.

With all due respect to everyone here...for I am not trying to defend, or ridicule anyone...or even debate about this at all...but I do have to say a few things here...this username somehow rings a bell...I don't know why but there is a certain familiarity about it that is uncanny....seems a lot of that happens here these days...old names re-apearing...time and time again...always "new" members...but old names re-used??...like there's folks about that are old and knowledgable and feel like saying whatever...but too afraid or whatever to speak AS THEMSELVES...??...so they pick out old usernames...??...I don't really get it...but I DO know this name...it is NOT new....yet it is... Now...as for Poser 5 and Macs...I happen to adore Macs...and PC's....unfortunatly as things do go...Mac platforms do many times have to wait longer....it really isn't fair in some ways because Macs are even more known for Graphics than PC's in many areas... Then...on the other hand...look at 3DMax...is there even a Mac version at all..?? People need to chill...debate...harmless debate...should be a part of a forum...I have not read these posts talked about...if this person has indeed foul mouthed others to sustain his/her penchants to portray verbal illness about Poser 5 and Macs...then you folks are right to complain....on the other hand...I have been following a lot of the Poser 5 threads too...and I have noticed a certain edgyness..touchiness....a real short fuse if someone even says "boo" or jests or says something even remotely derogatory about Poser 5 or Curioslabs these days....like come on people...it is great to love and adore a program....but it is just a tool of anticipation...what the heck would happen if this program actually has some bugs at first...(heavens...ya know it does happen)...would we all have to clone ourselves for fear of speaking up... and getting hung up to dry after getting tarred and feathered...?? Cheers

I have contacted the Admins about this member. Please do not think I did so because of his opinion on the Macintosh system or users of (like myself incidently). Certainly it can be argued that I may have provoked him at times and I admit having referred to him above and in an instant message as a wally and The Wicked Troll Of The North. To this end I have attempted not to reply to any of his recent entries or even acknowledge his presence but a thread in the forum, which the member started, about typos in the PDF manual for Poser 5 (!) he has continued his routine. Again toward Curious Labs and certain members and in fact any member who criticises him, oh and mac users. As I wrote before, the last serious discussion into the two systems broke down when SJ accused BG of putting too much butter on his scones. No-one takes the platform debate very seriously, not really, my concern is for those members and the CL staff, the latter who are already showing signs of mild impatience. He is NOT a new member, I recall him in threads in early 2001. It is possible that his not having examples of any of his artwork in galleries etc is down to professional reasons and practicalities of the medium. I just dont think this will stop him showing still work or stills of his work. Lots of animators were once artists and lots of film makers were once still photographers. Its hard to believe he is unfamiliar with the series Red Dwarf being in the animation and film industry. Im sure even the most solemn programmer of C++ has heard the word "smegghead". Two entries into the same thread back-to-back as close as three minutes apart, both flames, I wonder if that has a name. In fact, could, if anyone who has read his less critical posts, see any merit or evidence of any immense knowledge? There are some experienced and highly skilled people here, would anyone care to comment?

Guys, this thread is perilously close to personal attacks. Please back it off. If action needs to be taken, it will be taken, and it will be done privately. Thanks!

Is it possible that this is the same person who does the holograms? I seem to remember a holographic animation of T-rex walking and stomping? Ah-HAH! Found it! Here is the link to the thread. He does indeed do animation of the professional kind, and his reasons for not having a gallery here would then parallel mine. Check the link before belittling him further. http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=731793 However, I'm also a Mac user by preference. My fifth computer was a Mac, and I should have switched years before. Side-grading my art-tools was expensive, but worthwhile. It is indeed the better machine for certain developmental tasks (such as movie-making, which I'm hoping to ease into). There are currently 6 (SIX) different operating systems available to me in this home studio (including an Amiga 4000 whereon I'm going to recover some ancient animations with a modicum of luck). I am patient. I can wait for the Mac version of P5 without hounding CuriousLabs incessantly. I'll just camp out in their break room and confiscate their coffee pot if it takes them beyond next summer. Long before that point is reached though, I'll feed them brownies and hugs and see what can be done to help them. I've got friends at Apple, too, and maybe need to apply some leverage there to get information flowing between companies. :🤷: I don't like nagging or being nagged. There are more effective ways. Chocolate, backrubs, and smiles come to mind. Carolly

Penguinisto ( ) posted Mon, 26 August 2002 at 6:28 PM

Uh-oh... so now what am I gonna do with this heavily-stained coffee pot? I even left the Post-it ransom note on the heating-plate where I knew Steve Cooper would find it... You mean I DROVE 1200 MILES ROUND-TRIP FOR NOTHING!? AAAAAAARGH! (hehe... Hey, HD! you got Linux in there, too? While you;re at it, will someone with a Mac tell me how to make a Macintosh boot floppy using something other than a Macintosh?)

Now that woudnt be a joke about my name would it? ;-) AS it happens I will be changing my username soon but this is not related to this subject. Cheers, xvcoffee
