Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 06 11:58 am)
I'm not sure what question you were answering Poppi, but I know it's not required for any type of portfolio. I enjoy using Poser 4 to no ends (as I'm sure my gallery proves LOL) and I want to know if there are any differences between the regular version of Poser 5 and the Academic version of it. Also, if anyone knows the price (aproximate is fine) for the Academic version. (Being a college student, hobbies and toys are a pain to get when you're paying out the wazoo for an education LOL)

I bought Poser 4 at the Academic Superstore. Several of the academic sites have it up, but this is the best price I've found. $l89.95 for full version. Not an upgrade.Good Luck.
Hrmm, well 189.95 still isn't bad for the full version...Might have to contact CL and see if there's an academic upgrade as well, although if not, even for 189, I won't complain LOL (not since I got this version of Poser from a teacher at school...)

I paid $205.something for the full version of Poser 5 + shipping. I bought it backorder at JourneyEd.com I scanned and e-mailed JourneyEd a copy of my latest pay stub and a copy of my Utah Educator's License to prove my status before purchase. A student IIRC just needs to scan/e-mail his student ID or latest report card. AFAIK, there is no academic upgrade price, though if you are faculty and happen to be teaching Poser as part of an approved curricula, CL has been known to be extremely generous with bulk licensing and pricing. Oh, Poppi - there are quite a few high school and college art departments that are taking Poser and Bryce very seriously in their intro coursework, so I wouldn't be too sure about Poser being left out in the cold ;) /P
Thanx for the Info Penguinisto. :) I'm not sure what our bookstore can do, as it's the first week of class, they're HORRIBLY busy and I'd rather not back them up further. I'll wait a few weeks till things slow down and find out how much or even if they can get it. When I asked them about P4, they laughed in my face and said "We only carry Microsoft, Corel, and Adobe products." But someone mentioned The Academic Superstore, and I did check there and it's listed as 189.95. So I guess I do have options if my school bookstore wants to be pricks again this time around. :)

LOL No doubt Penguinisto. :) Our bookstore loves the "eventually" concept. Or the "We'll get back to you" syndrome. And you're right...NOT the right attitude where P5 is concerned LOL Kymm

Tirjasdyn, Trust me, our bookstore has the same book problem. Fortunately for me, All of my books this semester could be purchaced at Barnes and Nobel. (small miricles LOL) I don't know why bookstores at colleges don't order more books if they know what the enrollment is. shrug Guess it's a common problem all over the states LOL

Ok, I've been on the CL site and looked all over, maybe this question has been answered, and I'm sorry to repeat if it has...but does anyone have a clue how much the P5 Academic Version will be? Also, will the academic version have any "missing" funcitions of the full, regular version? If the price difference isn't that much, and there are differences, I'd like to know which version to pick up. I know I can talk to my bookstore and have them contact Curious Labs about the priceing and stuff, but I'd really like to know if there are any major differences between the two.
