Subject: Odd artifact error in poser

I'm trying to turn one of my CryoTubes into a figure for poser. After running it through Phi builder, and then converting the hier, it gives this odd artifact..It's not the lighting, and it only happens after I convert the hier file. Any ideas?

Try running it through uv mapper and using 'split vertices' Or open the PHI in notepad and check to make sure it's ok. mac

I used the split vertices command....but it made my model blocky. It's hard to tell, but I still don't think that fixed it :)

The Phi file looks fine too.....

Dangit...I think I just realized what the problem was, and I
deleted it too....I wonder if 'bend' was turned on...That causes a
lot of problems >_

um... what odd artifact where? draw a circle around it. (well, i dunno, looks fine to me.)

That little hold hiding behind the pole...it's supposed to be smooth.

That looks like Posers infamous smoothy effect. Is it just the one area, as it appears? If you're using UVMapper classic, you're limited to slpitting the whole model, and as you noticed this makes the whole model blocky. UVMapper pro can split specific groups, and/or split by angle, which gives a lot more flexibility. I don't know how you're making this, but if you are using a modeler, see if it has some kind of slpit vertices command, in Lightwave you select the polygons you want and either use the unweld command or simply cut and paste the polygons back into the model. I'm sure other modelers have similar functions. It looks like if you selected the outer brace/ridge polygons, and split them off from the tube, it would fix that. Regards- Lemurtek

heyas; i still think it looks good that way. looks like some kinda real life surface detail ;) check a smooth or flat shaded lined mode for something strange going on in that area, too.

I tend to agree with Lemurtek. It looks to me like something that was born in the modelling app. The possible fixes I suggested were really alternatives to avoid going back to your modeller, but I'm sure that's where the prob is. It would help if we knew what app you use. mac
