Subject: Need a quality football helmet

cyber-organic ( ) posted Wed, 14 August 2002 at 9:15 AM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 12:57 PM

Has anyone seen a good free one for download? The higher rez the better, and I'll probably be rendering in Bryce so most any file type would work. Bonus points if it's already mapped. Thanks in advance!

football helmet for what model (poserdude, posette, what version, vickie or mike?) It might or might not matter. Since this is a "dumb" prop, I could probably make one tonight. IM me and we'll talk.

Here is a little something I've been working on for a while... not sure about price just yet (if or amount), but it'll be affordable. Still have a little work to finish... simple stuff like rigging the chin strap and some basic lowest common denominator maps, but it'll be available soon. There are a total of 19 different face masks, an articulate mouthpiece (strap) and the chin strap is being articulated... I just ran across your post in skimming the forum and figured I'd post a sneak peak. ;)

I've been looking for one like this! and now i can see it! i await the release of this one.

Rob, if this is still a WIP, watch the sleeves of the jersey. Ideally, they should be large and loose, not suddenly running tight from the pads to the arms.

yah.. i was jsut talking to steve about that one rob...

i guess ur curious as to why?

this is why..

grrr :)

a day late..

well, yours looks really nice too... and dont worry man.. i wont be posting it at frestuff or anything like that...

and mark? robs will be at http://www.daz3d.com :)

and anyone else.. i dont know if you would ask for it, but dont.. i wont be giving mine away just to compete with daz.. i have pretty good relations with em there, and i wouldnt want to step on their toes...

Talon, that's a nice sentiment, but c'mon. DAZ has fantasy armour up, but so do about four thousand other people, and it doesn't seem to have hurt DAZ any. Your uniform is different from theirs in several ways -- releasing it would hardly cut into their profit since some people will prefer it the way you've done it, while others will prefer it the way DAZ has. Just do it.

Talon69 ( ) posted Thu, 29 August 2002 at 9:58 AM

hmm.. i guess i never really thought of it that way.. i just remember distinctly the issue between daz & burtons character... ended up being a competition thing, and burton ended up getting in trouble (ot hand slapped) for it.. maybe i should start a thread and see what the overall opinion is.. but you are definately right.. there are many differences between the two... hmm..

VirtualSite ( ) posted Thu, 29 August 2002 at 1:17 PM

Talon, I'm sure DAZ can handle a bit of competition over one item. Hell, PoserWorld has had Egyptian clothing out for over a year, but that didn't stop DAZ from releasing their "rulers of Egypt" line. You've gone this far on the work; why not just release it and let the marketplace decide?

BAM ( ) posted Thu, 29 August 2002 at 2:50 PM

VirtualSite, I'm not sure I agree with your comment in Message 7. The sleeves on the uniforms are often extremely tight. If they were large and loose they would provide a defender with an advantage. That is, something for the defender to grip and throw. Some jerseys actually have a drawstring in the sleeve that is tied by another person so that the sleeve conforms tightly.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Thu, 29 August 2002 at 9:55 PM

Okay, that's news to me. I guess it must be on a team to team basis, because our local pro one still uses the looser sleeves.

I just went to www.nfl.com. As you go through the many pictures on the site some have loose sleeves and for others they are tight.

Well... this was put off for a week or so while we forged ahead on finishing the "Millennium Dragon" (btw, previews at rbtwhiz.com), but now that we're done with that... I can get back to final tweaks on the football uniform. Anyone in a production environment knows problems arise (so the actual date may shift to compensate for problems noticed in beta and the fixes required by such), but it looks like next week should be the release of the football gear.

For what its worth, this gear was started back in November 01'... whilst still a broker, before I was hired by DAZ (in March 02'). DAZ purchased my library of content (in addition to a few in-development works) shortly after my employment began. Since March, everything I build is an "Original DAZ Creation", and rightly so.

The uniform itself is based on the one I wore back in high school. I played outside linebacker and fullback... thus the shape of the pads. There will be morphs for other pad shapes (lineman, QB, etc) as well as fitting morphs for a couple Michael 2 full body morphs. As I said in #3, there will also be 19 different face masks, an articulate mouthpiece and chin strap.

One issue to contend with when looking at the sleeve issue is the grouping, topology and way poser bends geometry in "problem areas". I think we've worked a solution well... although I have to admit, it was a real pain to deal with.

As for legalities and such mentioned, Jeremy... Steve has already mentioned a few things to you in private based on comments in your emails. Whether you choose to pursue release is up to you... but you at least know the issues involved. ;)

Anyway... If I expect to release when I said we would, I'd better get back to work. ;)

:) yep.. there are definately issues with my release.. and yah.. im positive about what i need to do, in order to release it.. (especially when it comes to the pants) ill tell you though.. as soon as yours is released? im gonna make a run to the store.. because dude.. that jersey... especially with the pads underneath (im assuming that yours doesnt include that particular item) all kinds of problems with it.. and im just itching to see how you got it to work. (maybe it will help me see where i am going wrong) - where is that collision detection when i need it? :D as far as the ends of the sleeves go.. i agree.. it was extremely difficult to get it to go the way that it was intended (at least from my end it was - and i can only hope that you had the same problems as well rob) because of the points of bending (and somewhat ugly mesh :p) it made it somewhat horrible.. however.. with a transmap, it would imagine it would be very simple to allow the jersey to look "somewhat" flowing where you see fit VirtuaSite. at least, my "personal beta" bends somewhat correctly, but the underlying pads are quite a desire to behold when the shirt is on :) anyway.. yah.. u get back to work rob :) ill get back to play ;) SN - allow me to throw a kudos in there.. just to say good job man... you do some real quality work man.
