Subject: Poser 5....Buying from the UK

evodes ( ) posted Wed, 28 August 2002 at 5:33 PM Ā· edited Thu, 12 December 2024 at 1:27 PM

Just wondered if anyone else from the UK had thought about buying Poser 5 from Curious Labs Store and seen the price they are charging? I was shocked to see that we in the UK have to pay 317 plus 55 tax etc...to get the full copy. This equates to $571 compared to the $329 Renderosity is charging for it for US and Canada members. Does anyone else think this is ridiculous? Why do international customers always have to pay an excessive amount for the same products? Anyone got any views? Please comment

Upgrade prices are very good. Can't blame CL for UK vat, that's s cross we all have to bear.

The upgrade Prices are good, but its the TAX and other import costs here in the UK that will boost the price. I am based in the UK. I was about to order the P5 upgrade from the Curious Labs Store, but from my experience of ordering other graphic software from the US, I have always been charged VAT, Import duty and a Post Office Handling fee. Thats 3 extra charges on top of the US asking price. I may just wait for the UK based companies to start selling the upgrade.

For some strange reason, Curious have a base in Ireland, this means that the software will come from there and not from the States...

true saxon but I think we're paying for the importing from the US to Ireland, by the way evodes I ordered as soon as it was available. Gotta have my poser fix ;) Rob

I may be wrong as I don't speak or read german but the price looks almost the same as what we've been quoted by CL. Rob

I ordered too, just as soon as the upgrades were available. The date given for delivery was 28th August, for a few days I naively thought it just might arrive then. Hey ho, nobody's got theirs yet anywhere and the tracking informatiom says "processing", really helpful! The suspense has been immense, hopefully it'll all be over soon and I can get back to work. It looks like an absolute gift for us animators and I don't really care how much I had to pay (within reason)...

Thanks for the comments. I too understand CL charging us VAT etc, its part of living in the UK. However, it still doesn't explain the fact the the package itself costs over $150 more than the US version. Hardly fair. Looks like I will have to wait for a UK outlet to offer something better...

Thanks starlet for the information. That makes more sense. All we have to do now is wait for Computers Unlimited to get into gear and start offering Poser 5.

I have already ordered mine, but just as a matter of interest could I have popped over to CL in Ireland and picked it up myself? I have family there, so it would have been a trip with two purposes. And my son is in IT and knows where CL are. BTW Saxon, lots of US computer and IT companies have outlets in Ireland. Dublin is like full of US companies. My son moved over with the Iomega support team, the moved to logitech.

Ah yes, "Computers Unlimited" I remember them well... I tried get an upgrade from p3 to p4, (before CL started shipping P4 again) I got shepherded to thier website, found the software, no details, couldn't add it to my basket as I had no account. Go through intrusive account creation process, login, access page. Find price, still can't find "add to my basket" contact support, who treat me like a moron, "what browser are you using?", "start from front page, tell me what you see..." etc. When I finaly convince them I'm not a moron, I have the right page I just can't add the thing to my basket, they say, "Oh, that's because it's out of stock..." "So WHY is the program still shown as available?" "Company policy, it's easier to simply remove the link than it is to yank the whole page" "Arrrgh!" They suck, buy it elsewhere! later jb

Just visited "Computers Unlimited" and it says "We do not sell directly to end users". You then have to click on a link and I assume it is supposed to tell you where to buy the software you are after. This was not working when I tried. There is also no mention of Poser 5 on the site.

However, it does appear you can order upgrades from "www.upgrades.co.uk" as this is listed as a link. But again, on this site there is no mention of Poser 5 upgrade. Of course this is no good if you wish to buy the full version. Just to have to give it some time I guess, and wait for them to start advertising it.
