Subject: Lighting up the forum.....

Since there are some experts lurking around here, I'll ask this beginner's question of them - or anyone.... What is the secret to getting control of the twiddley little handles of the lights? Do I ever have trouble clicking/selecting the little knob things to change position and etc!! I seem to be kinda challenged here. Thanks much, Rivers

I'm suspecting you're talking about the production frame? If so, you should select the camera that you're viewing through in the sequencer tray first. If you're trying to grab the control handles on an object, I go to an isometric view first. That helps me a lot. -Kix

Sorry, got confused here with another conversation. The advice for the production frame is valid. What kind of light are you talking about (spot?)? -Kix

With spotlights, you can click/hold slightly off-center and drag them around in front/left/right/top views. If you click the curved arrow icon, you can easily rotate them by click/holding and dragging the mouse pointer slightly off-center in the desired direction in front/left/right/top views. I always find it hard to do them on the camera view.

Well spots in the camera view is what I've been trying to do....guess it's the hard way so thanks, I'll get the other views opened up now. Appreciate it. Rivers

Actually, now that I think about it, I have been using the other views as well but jsut havent got the hang of moving the spots easily.

If you're going to be moving objects around in a non-isometric view, make sure you select the plane you want things to move in by clicking on that plane in the "little box with the ball in it" thingamathing. -Kix

One way I've found for positioning the lights quickly is to assign a "Point at" behavior, name the object your pointing at, move the light to where you want it coming from, then after it swings around, turn off the behavior and fine tune from there. Quick and dirty, but effective. Good luck!

i always turn those handles off. (the button is in the properties tab ... a cube with angles around it.) that seems to make moving and aiming the lights easier. then i just adjust the settings parametrically. i just can't remember what all the handles control. -scott
