Subject: Question about jpeg as background.

Hello,

I have another silly question but this is driving me nuts.

I have a large background jpg, 1000x1200. It is very crisp and clear when I view it through PSP and Photoshop.

When I use it as a background in Poser, even when I make the render smaller than the actual jpg. size, the quality is very poor.

I have the resolution set at 300 and it still is inferior quality.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated, please.

Thank you in advance.

Warm Regards,

Use a one sided square and enlarge it to just cover your background area, and then apply your jpg as a texture to it. That will give you a much better background when rendered.

Sometimes the lighting will interfere even with the jpeg on a square workaround. If you have a paint program that utilises layers and alpha channels-- I believe PSP does, I use PS, and you are only using one figure, you can render agianst black and use your background in your paint program, it is absolutely the clearest crispest way to do it. I'm a real dummy about alpha channels but even I could understand this tutorial. Emily

You can solve any lighting problem on the square by setting the Object, Highlight, and Reflection Colours to pure black (RGB 0,0,0), and the Ambient Colour to pure white (RGB 255,255,255). This will override/wash out all lighting, even coloured lighting. Also, disable shadows on the square prop to prevent it from casting unwanted shadows on the rest of your scene.

I think it helps when you use a pic as background, to make the pic the EXACT size (not just ratio) of the final render. So if final render is 300 x 200 use a 300 x 200 pic, not a 600 x 400. Less conversion to make.

Ahh thank you for that good piece of advise, Bongo! Warm Regards, Nancy
