Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 18 10:25 pm)
Not meaning to pee in the pool, but have you considered doing this: just after you open Poser, delete the Poser 2 guy, go up to: Edit/General preferences and set this as your preferred state and tell Poser to open with your preferred state. And to open to previous state. Not having any figure - Poser opens faster and you do not have to delete the default guy every time. If you always use the same figure, you can set it to open with that one already there. You can change lights, camera focal lengths, the way a render is saved - new window etc. shadow values . Then save as preferred state. The color thing - I think if a geometry does not have a defined color or texture in the cr2, Poser will assign a random color to it. If a cr2 in the library has no materials blocks then when it opens - it does this when it writes them.
I just figured it out. The Hr2 files for the Poser 2 hair don't reference the material in the OBJ, as Jaager mentioned, so it loads with a random color assigned. I set up my prefered state a long time ago, and assigned it to a UI dot, just for safety's sake. lesbentley, which Male Hair 1 are you loading? The one in the Hair Types folder, or the Poser 2 Fig Hair folder. The hair I'm refering to is in the Poser 2 Fig Hair folder. The Male Hair 1 in the Hair Types folder loads fine for me.
Wyrwulf, I'm loading from "Poser 2 Fig Hair", it always comes in at the same colour R=46, G=16, B=0. Jagger the "Male Hair 1.hr2" has the color defined, though I am not sure what the "presetMaterial Preview" is. material Preview { KdColor 0.180392 0.0627451 0 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0.0392157 0.0313726 0 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 10 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 } presetMaterial Preview { KdColor 0.180392 0.0627451 0 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0.0392157 0.0313726 0 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 10 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 }
I always have it open with nothing because it is faster. One other thing I also do is prior to setting this as my preference, I delete all animation frames and leave it at "1." This is helpful when saving poses as it doesn't prompt you to include the empty frames.
Poser 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Pro 2014, 11, 11 Pro
If you look at the P2 Male Hair 1 in the materials editor, the material that changes colors is Default. If you look at the Hr2 in a text editor, it doesn't reference Default as a material. I have made so many changes to my Poser installation that I don't have a clue if it ever worked properly. I may just load Poser into a new folder to see what the original installation looks like.
presetMaterial Preview is something from Poser 3. It duplicated every material block with the second as presetMaterial XXXXX. At least I seem to remember it that way. Poser 4 only does material, so if the other is in there, it is legacy from Poser 3. Cut it out, save, open and save from Poser 4, does not come back.
Well wyrwulf, perhaps they shipped two versions of the P2 Male Hair 1, I am pretty sure mine is in the original condition I got it in, because after the first day I banished the default figure and loaded to a blank document, just lights cameras and the ground plain. I never touched the default figure or his hair again until I read this thread, but it's not just you, other people are experiencing this, so it's no freak accident. I guess we may just have to put it down to another great unsolved mystery of the Poser universe.
I just did a fresh install of Poser 4 and looked at the Poser 2 hair. The only material in any of the Poser 2 hair is Preview. I then downloaded the update from CL and ran it on the new install. The hair stayed the same. Somewhere, there must be a download that has installed new Poser 2 hair OBJ files. It might have been one of the unofficial Poser 4 updates. I was thinking that it might be a Zygote/DAZ freebie that makes the P4 hair work on the Mill people, but I couldn't find any other hair that references the P2 hair OBJs.
I deleted the geometry RSR, and it didn't make any difference. I opened the OBJs for the P2 hair with a text editor and there is a line for a material called default. I deleted that line in all the P2 hair OBJs and they load fine now. I will have to reload P4 again to look at the original OBJs. There are notes in the files that are commented out with a #. Some of the notes have dates and names in them.

I've just started to notice that the default fellow that appears when you fire up Poser 4.0 has started to change his hair colour. Now I may be thick and haven't noticed that this happens all the time (I do please innocence as I am colour blind) but it seems it's getting a bit extreme lately. One time it's blue, the next brown, the next yellow, the next green etc etc etc Now my questions is: Is this default fellow trying to make a fasion statement or is there something fishy going on with the defaults? Any ideas? Guarie
