Subject: Problems with 4.03 shutting down

JohnF1964 ( ) posted Wed, 04 September 2002 at 6:50 PM ยท edited Tue, 25 February 2025 at 7:55 AM

I've searched the boards for a couple days now and have not found any help. Poser keeps shutting down on me, I'll be working on a scene and poser will just stop. The interface stays on the screen but nothing works, for the first 10 minutes or so the entire system is locked up, then the computer will start to run normal except that the poser interface is still on the screen, kind of like an overlay. If I call up the task manager, Poser is not even in the list, yet it will remain on the screen untill I open another program, then my system goes back to the windows desktop and runs normally. I've tried all the fixes in the manual, plus a couple that I searched out here, and nothing helps. Anybody ever experience anything like this? Any suggestions? Thanks, John P. S. version 4.03 (Metacreations w/ 4.03 patch) and Propack but I had this problem before I patched it or installed PP.

Is Poser the only program that is having this problem? Some of the standard checks include: Make sure your video drivers are current. Check Device Manager for any device or driver conflicts. Possible corrupted poser.rsr file. Re-install Poser and set the poser.rsr to ready-only. Check that stuff and drop a note.

Oops! ready-only = read-only :)

Yes Poser is the only program that has these problems, other wise I have no problems with the system. Video drivers are current, there are no conflicts. I'll reinstall poser and change the attribute, and see what happens. Thanks for the help

John, I had had a lot of problems with poser crashing (on win 2k) until I heard about this read-only .rsr trick. I did it and it seems to have cured the problem. It seems that my poser .rsr was fragmenting badly. mac

Last night I uninstalled pro pack, and reinstalled poser, then pacthed it to ver 4.03, then changed the attribute on poser.rsr to read only. Opened poser and loaded a prop (The house from DAZ's archetecture pack), as soon as I tried to select the prop it crashed, this took all of 1 minute. This happens every time I load this prop. I've had problems with other props and even some figures, but not to this extent. It even crashed a couple times using the casual woman figure. As far as the system goes, I'm running Win ME, w/ a 333 celeron on an Asus main board, other than the problem with poser the system runs almost flawlessly (unheard of for windows) thanks for the help

John, I have no idea what the problem could be. The only things I can suggest are, 1. Contact Curious Labs technical support 2. Try the Hardware/Technical forum here. I've heard in the past of a lot of people having problems with win ME. Maybe someone in the forum can help out. It seems like a pretty bizarre fault. If it's crashing the minute it's re-installed, then there's something far wrong. mac

I d/l'd cacheman, tried several different profiles, it didn't make a difference. As an experiment, I installed poser and propack to my other computer, same problem on that computer. I bought poser4 when it first was released (Metacreations) since then I've had it installed in 3 different computers and I've had this problem in all of them. Is it possible I just got a bad cd? Would C L be willing to replace it? The program doesn't lock up every time I use it, I've played with it for hours with no problems. there are other times when it will lock up within the first 10 or 15 minutes, it just seems to be a random thing. Upgrading to 5 is not an option, at least untill I upgrade my computer anyway, for what it for 4 is more than enough. sorry to be so long winded, but this is really starting to bug me. Again thanks for your help.
