Subject: Content Paradise-Rosity

Entropic ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 1:06 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 10:29 PM

Well, now that the magazine's out (thanks to the staff for mentioning it to me- Would hate to think that as one of the primary contributors to Issue 3 I'd have to hear it from someone in Memphis, Tennessee who has no connection with the publication at all). I was wondering if Rosity already has the Content Paradise support software in place, if there's going to be any changes in the way merchants need to set up their packaging so that Poser 5 will know how to unzip and install it properly, and if the recent "server upgrades" had anything to do with it. Of course, if this post is stealing thunder from some upcoming announcement, just feel free to ignore me... On second thought, don't ignore me, just tell me to shut up. Paul P.S.: Got tired of hearing the rumors floating around everywhere, and figure if there's something I need to know, it'd be better just to ask than speculate.

You mean utopia is just around the corner...?? Woohoo...okay...well....there better be sandy beaches...tons of hot babes..."willing"....fruits aplenty...a clear refreshing ocean...a brand new Porche...and a Lamborghini and Ferrari in case I get bored...and a mint Model T for my nostalgic moments....a villa with all the "extra's"....a real "true" remedy for male onset baldness...a duel Pentium P4 with tons of goodies and add-ons and a proper "bus" to go with it...no tanlines...some real good new movies with some originality...no more cavities meaning no more dentists...an "easy" way to quit smoking...there's more...but this should be a good starting point...;-)

"You mean utopia is just around the corner...??" Well, that remains to be seen, Peter. ;) Content Paradise, as I cover in my recently published article for Renderosity Magazine is a browser enhancement within Poser 5. Basically, it breaks down like this: If you're online, using Poser 5, and need content ( my new product, for instance plug ), you'll go to the content room for Poser 5. Poser 5 then offers you access to a search engine with direct access to member sites such as Renderosity. You browse about, find my product ( it's the last one you'll ever need, after all plug ) and buy it. Poser 5 then organzies the download, unzips it, and places everything in the proper place, updating your library, etc. If you think of Renderosity as a shopping mall, Content Paradise is the highway that leads there, the baggage handler that carries it all out to your car, and the cleaning person that keeps your new purchases from getting scattered about the house. Pretty neat, huh? Of course, CL has publically stated that there are requirements to hook into the CP, such as software demands, cataloguing, etc. They have also publically stated that Renderosity is the first site to sign off on the project. Which brings us full circle to my post: What can we expect in changes here? Are they already in place, or is it something we should look for? Will vendors need to jump through new hoops to upload to the store? If so, what hoops? Basically, people in the Poser forum are running around screaming madly that the software's shipping as of today, lots of people are talking dark conspiracies between Rosity and CL, etc. So I'm just asking point blank, what's going on? Will I be able to use CP immediately when I install Poser 5, or is Rosity still hammering out the bugs? It's pretty relevant to me. I have a product to release soon, and I want to know if that product will have different conditions. I also want to know if I'm going to have to sit on a useless function for a month. Furthermore, I want to know if this site is going to benefit from the influx of new business from Poser newbies, or if the marketing funnel of Content Paradise is going to sit idle for three or four thousand newbies while Rosity gets the act together. Basically, I've been waiting for all these questions to get resolved since I started thinking about the Content Paradise back in July when I was just delving into the research for publication, and I'd expected SOMETHING to be said before now, as this is perhaps the most directly relevant aspect of P5 to this site. We can all be happy about the hair, cloth, etc. But insofar as Rosity should be concerned, Content Paradise is the big hullaballoo. So why the eerie silence? Are we ready or what? Paul

That's....that's...that's almost as good as phone sex....just dial...pay later... ....hoolabalooha....let me digest this....you almost make P5 sound like some portable store/mall that folks will be carrying around...got liquid cash..??...now there's liquid poser.....3D bucks will be out soon?......geez...don't mean this the wrong ways...nono...nope....but I never did much like phone sex...ex loved the home shopping cahnnel...I don't...blah....maybe a little too much emphasis on shopping?...buying?...selling?....just maybe..??...but...ya know...just gotta say now...I do hope it's gonna be an art tool too...I do...I do...I do... I didn't even like talking cars...(they still have those?)...you know...."your door is ajar"..."your door is ajar"...NO..it's a door you dumb car!!....I absolutely despise car alarms...heard one the other day that SHRIEKED like a woman in real distress...like...does ANYONE listen to these with any kind of serious tone...folks pay lots for these just to irritate themselves and others... Suppose getting reminded to buy stuff in an art program...or led around by the hand...that too could be annoying...trying to do a pic...oooh....would you like to buy a pretty ring for your dolly now?...later?...would you like to be reminded?.....phooey on that!....I find although I do like advertising...I like it when I have a "choice" to find it myself...I hate it when it is shoved up my nose...butt...or any place else....I find MOST consumers are like me....we all tend to not like those "PUSHY" shoe salesmen that JUMP on you the moment you enter a store....at the same time...try to find help at Wal-Mart these days....they have almost a monopoly...why bother anymore...grumble....happens when you get too good or way too big on your britches... ...and then you stand a danger of over saturation...too many hot dog stands all over....no more real pure beef dogs.......then oops.....then decline.....boom!...paradise...lost Cheers! ;-)

Entropic ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 6:57 AM

Heh. Well, first off, CL's never been big on spy-ware, pop-ups, or anything invasive, so I highly doubt that will be an issue. ;) Secondly, you'll still have to buy the item like normal. CP just helps you find it and helps in the installation. It just works with your normal internet connection, and I don't thik CL has anything to do with payment handling, etc. Just want to make sure no one gets misled. Hopefully if there's anything I'm missing or not explaining well, someone will pop in and let me know. I'm just interested in how this will affect Rosity in general, and me in particular. Other, wiser people can figure out how it works, I just care about what it does. ;) Paul

DragonWalk ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 7:25 AM

[CP just helps you find it and helps in the installation.] Perhaps this is the part I like the least...(pushy shoe salesman?).... Suppose one would have to see how this goes....but...I really would not like poser to become an essential "pre-fab software" instead of an essential "digital tool" to "create/render" with...or...to put it another way....a "3D shoppers dream"...rather than....a "3D artists dream"... Time...suppose time will tell... Cheers!

x2000 ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 8:00 AM

I'm sure CL didn't set up this "Content Paradise" thingie out of the kindness of their hearts. Obviously, they're making money off of this, whether it's a flat fee, a cut of each sale, or both. So... is R'osity footing the bill, or can we merchants expect CL dipping into OUR 50%?

Curio ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 8:24 AM

it all sounds very ominous to me

ronmolina ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 8:41 AM

Paul I think you have an excellent concern. I am not sure of the setup but believe the way items are currently package for the store here will work fine. Ron

Entropic ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 8:41 AM

I'd wondered that, too, x2k... just taking things one step at a time. I don't want anyone getting out of hand and running around freaking out on this, but I would like to see answers and some discussion. No flames kindling here Curio... I know there's a lot pressure on the boiler right now, but I think a straightforward open talk about this might help relieve a bit of that strain. We are all adults here after all... well... sometimes. ;) Paul

Curio ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 8:47 AM

I wasn't kindling any flames - I just said I thought it was ominous. I had to say sdomething - becuase I wanted to watch this thread. ok? :)

Entropic ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 9:08 AM

Heh... sorry, I was joking man, came out wrong. I know you weren't... seems like everywhere I go lately the things are boiling over into firestorms and everyone's getting defensive and irritable. Can't say I'm not one of the people starting to get defensive... ;) You're all sort of cool in my book, so lurk away... Paul

Flaxynn ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 9:25 AM

From what I understand CP is not invasive in any way. If you don't open the window, it won't bother you. And you don't "have" to use it to purchase or install items if you don't want to. So I would think there would be no "hoops" for you wonderful merchants to jump through, Paul as it seems to be an add-on. I think either Anton or Kupa made a blurb about it in a post a while back. As for how it affects R'osity, we'll have to wait for someone to get back to us on that, I guess. I'm curious too! ;-)

Entropic ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 9:32 AM

"So I would think there would be no "hoops" for you wonderful merchants to jump through, Paul as it seems to be an add-on. " Well, I'm not so sure. by "hoops" I mean two things: 1. Will service be costing me anything extra? 2. I know that CP requires Rosity to run cataloguing and other database query software. Will it require me to include any special tags, headers, or file types for my uploads to be CP compatible? Will CP users be able to see my store, or will they just automatically jump to my product? Basically, the CP is the only part of the sofware I haven't seen working in any sense, and that bugs me. It's also so directly relevant to the future of Rosity and Marketing of content, that I won't be resting peacefully til I get some kind of reassurance. ;) Paul

Flaxynn ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 10:21 AM

Hmmm... can't find the post I was referring to and I really don't remember those issues being addressed in any case- Darn! I was under the impression it operated similar to a search engine, but I may be way out there too- LOL! I really don't plan on using it until I hear good or bad things about it. I am anxiously awaiting a follow-up to this thread also! Good luck!

ronmolina ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 10:21 AM

Paul You may want to also ask this question in the Poser forum. You may get a better response. I share in your concerns as a Merchant. Also maybe post in the Merchant forum. Ron

kromekat ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 10:25 AM

Hmm, need to know more about this too.

Entropic ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 10:35 AM

Well, I think this is a site-wide issue with my approach, ron, so while I'll post links when I'm a little more awake, I want the thread addressed primarily here. Poser 5 might be affecting users of many different software packages at Rosity due to the influx of new members, etc. I'm not trying to get into what CP is on the CL end of things, only on the rosity side, and I thought putting it there (in the Poser forum) would be an invitation to anarchy, you know? ;) As for the Merchants' forum, I think it's more broad reaching, and beyond that, the MF currently has enough to deal with without one more thing... ;) Paul

ronmolina ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 10:39 AM

Paul I here that. Opps no moderators here. Maybe we should send Clint a link to this discussion. He should have the answers. Ron

Entropic ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 10:48 AM

IMed him already... pretty sure it will have to wait til he and tim and tammy wake up and gt their morning coffee. I know they've got a busy day ahead of them with all things considered, so I'm willing to be patient and see what comes up... In the meantime, I'm trying to stick around and keep speculation and anarchy to a minimum until they've had a chance to get in here and consider. ;) I'm not doing anything today except smoking cigarettes, so no hurry... unless, of course, I run out of cigarettes... ;) Paul

We will be putting out a PR on the front page soon. The merchants will not experience any changes in their percentages. : ) thanks tammy

Entropic ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 11:58 AM

Cool. Like I said, didn't want to steal your thunder, tammy, just getting edgy about the lack of mention. ;) As long as things get answered, and there's some room to discuss, I'm happy. Paul

c1rcle ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 1:45 PM

doesn't CP work as a search engine & download manager? This is going to cause some major problems unless I'm mistaken, doesn't it bypass main pages & go straight to the goodies? ooh download managers are taboo round these parts as well or have I got the wrong sort of download manager? dazed & confused as always Rob

Entropic ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 2:25 PM

Heh. No, c1rcle... no worries there... There are conditions on CP... First of all, you have to be a member of the site you go to buy stuff, obviously. I don't know if it will directly access the front page or not, but that's for Rosity and CL to hammer out, since they have the contracts to sign. Either way, CP use is no big deal. It's basically just a more efficient way to access the stores that are members of the program. I'm sure Rosity has to pay for the service, but as long as it doesn't raise prices, hurt merchants, or overtly inconvenience the membership, it shouldn't matter. Everyone can win from the situation. I feel kinda like a shit preempting a press release, but at the same time, I had no idea they were planning an announcement to explain things. Don't feel bad about not knowing what's up with the Content Paradise feature. As I said previously, it's been the least discussed aspect of the new software, but has the most potential effect on Renderosity. At the same time, I can safely be assured all our questions will be answered. There are times when a "we'll discuss this matter later" means "bugger off" and times when it means you can expect something cool and big to happen soon. The difference is generally in who says it. If tammy says it, expect something cool and big. ;) Paul

c1rcle ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 2:36 PM

thanks Paul :) we'll all see it first hand soon enough, I'll have to try it out at least once anyway, that's not the first time we've been told expect big things soon, it's gonna be interesting to say the least :) Rob
