Subject: Poser 5 Face Room Problems

volfin ( ) posted Wed, 11 September 2002 at 11:11 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 11:07 AM

Maybe someone can help me with this. I just got Poser a couple of hours ago and I have already ran into a snag. I was playing around in the face room and was trying out the Random face generator. It finally came up with a combination that I liked. However, I can't seem to save it. The Manual says you can press the Spawn Morph Target button to save the head as a morph target. However, no matter how many times I press it, nothing happens. Has anyone been able to get the Spawn Morph Target button to work? Any Ideas?

Oh, did I mention the registration went smoothly?

I couldn't get it to work either :( Maybe you can apply it to the figure then save it in a face library.

I tried that too. No go. Now I am fighting another problem. I like to rearrange my Poser interface. So I rearranged my Pose room, then I went to the Material Room and rearranged that. Then to the next room, and so on. I go back to the Pose room, and it's all screwed up! The material Room is even worse! Some controls have disappeared, others are only half there, or have no titles, etc. I can't even move the stuff. I am not a happy camper *8-(

Great now a runtime error. I think I am going to bed and try again tomorrow. It's amazing how fast one can go from excited to disgusted.

On the center top right corner of the window that shows you the face map (center image that has "Texture Preview" above it. You will see two icons that look like folders above it. (One on the top left and one on the top right side) Click on the top right folder. Then change the name and save it where ever you want. I havent played with spawn Morphs yet but with the trouble I have been having I have also save them as a .pz3 and compressed Pzz file to make sure. Hope this helps

There are major GUI problems with this...I've never seen so many problems with an interface...I've been having windows from other rooms not close and ending up in the main window, document window turns white..gray boxes all over the place...buttons that are there but don't work...things changing faster than I can look at them...do a tweak and everything is gone..just way weird stuff... I'm going to bed...with a damn big headache,,,luckily I have to work tomorrow so I don't havr to deal with Poser 5 again until 5:30pm.... And yes---I have been excited for months....diminshed somewhat since Monday when others started having problems, installed P5 at 5:30pm today, and now just plain POd and dismayed---

Thanks for your help, but those Folder Icons only load or save the texture map. I want to save the head shape. I saved the figure with the morph applied, so if CL ever fixes the program so that it is usable, I can load it (loading a Scene file causes a runtime error as well. Aren't I the lucky one?) I was just poking around in the runtime folder, and found a new folder called UI. I assumed (correctly) that this stood for User Interface. You know what I discoverd? Poser 5's User Interface is written in XML! (go to http://www.ucc.ie/xml/ for an explaination of what XML is) I liking Poser 5 less and less.

When you spawn an MT in the face room it is appended to the figure's CR2.

Select the head and go to the bottom of the list of MT's on the parameters palette, you will see one called "head".

There should also be a morph on each of the eyes.

Better to just apply the shape to the figure IMO.

dave-so, I had that problem too with the boxes ending up like that. Eventually it froze. I'm thinking its a video card issue. What card are you running? i have that ati all in wonder 8500dv.

I haven't had any of these problems (then again, I am taking time to read the manual and am tip-toeing around in each room slowly). However, in the main pose room, the window used to view the figure acts erratically. The view flips from normal single view to a four- or three-pane view at random, and the program insists on enabling animation...even though I repeatedly shut that off. This is quite annoying when trying to alter the figure's expression; I make Don frown, then suddenly he starts moving through the whole range of expression in an endless loop! Sometimes his forehead caves in under the effort (rather disconcerting when he looks at me with a leer on his lips and a concave forehead as if he died by pickaxe). Lammoth

Was Poser 5 beta tested? There seem to be so many problems cropping up that I'm beginning to wonder. Marque

Eric---I have a Visiontek GF3 ti500 64meg video...with latest nvidia drivers. I'm contemplating going back a couple of versions to see if that helps...

I've said it before and I'll say it again --- the 'cool' Poser interface (e.g., non-Windows standard) certainly looks the part, but should have been zapped long ago in favor of standard windows and controls!!!! The customs ones are buggy, hard to read, and resource-heavy. Oh well.. nothing is perfect.. not even our beloved Poser :)

It always makes me wonder what the programmers were thinking about when they try to make a "cutesy" interface. Look at Lightwave- sure the program may be "hard to use", but all of its buttons are TEXT. You want to rotate a an object, click the button that says "Rotate". You want to move an object, click the button that says "Move". In Poser (and Bryce, etc.), when you want to rotate a model, you click the corkscrew-shaped icon (or is it a twisty icon or what is it?). When you want to move an object, you hold down the "hands". In Poser, when you want to add a model to the scene, you hit the "check mark", not the "+" (which should mean "add to scene", but means "add to library"). And don't get me started on the non-Windows-standard dialog boxes! (You hit the "Enter" key to accept the dialog box, but Poser thinks you're still on the main window and turns the scene into "boxes". After hitting Enter a few times, it gets the idea and the dialog box goes away.) Oh, well, maybe Poser 6 will look less "cutesy" and more "professional" (ie. more like Lightwave). --John

Only one gripe I have to add to the above. My eyesight is very poor. I can't even drive a car. So getting around the Poser (Bryce is an equally malicious offender) interface is horrifically difficult. I didn't even realise there was text here and there. Medium grey text on slightly darker medium grey background is literally impossible for me to read (and the ~6 pt size doesn't help either). I've been having to plain memorize what each icon does, or if many are identical (as in Bryce), I memorize that the third green dot from the left of a row of dots means X. Arg! But hey, it's about the only software I can afford that does somewhat what I need it to do. Lammoth

Did anyone find out if you can add extra points in the face room so you can get a more precise face shape when using a photo?
