Subject: Poser 5 to Poser 4 Hair?

SAMS3D ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 7:45 AM · edited Sat, 09 November 2024 at 11:33 AM

Let me ask anyone, has anyone tried to save a poser 5 as a pz3 with the hair and open it in Poser 4 and see if the hair is intact? Sharen

ronmolina ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 7:58 AM

Have not tried it but do not believe that will work. The reason is the dynamic settings that may be included in pz3 will definetly not work in 4. Also 4 does not have the ability to render it. I may try it later for the heck of it and watch 4 crash.LOL! Ron

Tried it last night. Got the newer version than expected message, then can't open the P5NudeWoman.obj, then you are out of memory, etc. Poser 4 didn't crash on me though. Arleen

So you can't open Don and Judy in Poser 4 either? I was wondering... But if you get the out of memory error then I guess not sigh Or was it just becourse Poser 4 couldn't FIND the obj?

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

Arleen You would have to move the files over to P4 in order for them to work. Under the P4 runtime. Ron

Thanks Ron. Big DUH! here. My excuse is It was late last night and I'm sticking to that story!! LOL! Okay, moved the P5NudeWoman.obj over to Poser 4, the file opened fine, had to locate some textures, but all I got was the skull cap, no hair. Can you export the hair? Haven't tried that. Thanks again Ron. Arleen

You can export the hair but it will not work right in Poser4. Hey you used my favorite excuse. LOL! Ron

Can you save the Poser 5 dynamic hair as an object? Also I tried to add morph targets to the hair, everything worked well when I was creating them, but when I went to move the dials nothing happened. Is there a reason for this?

wdupre ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 11:19 AM

P5 hair doesn't use morph targets as it is not OBJ based and no you cannot convert it to Obj file

SAMS3D ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 12:20 PM

You know that really is a shame, I like to do other scenes in Vue with Poser and I just can't have them all bald....I love the styles they have and the texture in Poser 5, but not being able to move them out to other software is a dissapointment.

ronmolina ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 12:29 PM

All the top end apps I have you can not move the hair out to another program. It is not the same type technology as a mesh. Same with dynamic cloth. Ron

cyberman2 ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 12:30 PM

is there a way to export and convert the poser5 hairs with furfur (http://www.eurus.dti.ne.jp/~masasi/) , like the hair-objekts in poser4?

poserpro ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 12:38 PM

furfur, no. Masa san may need to recompile for this use if he can. Cloth can be exported as sequence of OBJ files and make them MT in C4D. p5 hair can be exported as OBJ in l mode( line mode, the guide hair mode), so not the real geometrical hair as seen in hair room, but if you are happy with the l mode, then turn all "l " as "f " ( so it is face mode ).

poserpro.....WHAT ! Sorry, it is you so lost me....Sharen

ronmolina ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 3:00 PM

Well you are being told to change the lines in the obj file. All Ls to Fs. It will not look right. Sharen here is the problem with hair. This is with all top end apps. If you were to actually make it an obj the file would be huge! 2 million plus polys for the hair. How do I know I have done it. What does that mean? Rendering times for a single frame take forever. Poser would choke as most others apps do. Other apps use this magic. We are talking about files that can be up to 100mb. Thats just the hair. So some brilliant folks came out with magic an illusion. Its not really a mesh/model in the classical since. Its like Bryce. Incredible abilities but not real models. For example the booleans there. There just mathmatical magic. He is also telling you that the true thing you get is the hair guides. Ron

Hey Sharen, we speculated about this over in the Vue forum...looks like we were dead on about it. You and I both know that E-On's going to work its butt off to try and make a way to get Poser 5 files into Vue, but it simply may not be possible...even by the time Vue 5 comes out. My temporary workaround? Do half the scene in Vue and half in Poser 5. a) Use Vue to create a nice background image for Poser 5 or b) render a figure with alpha map in Poser 5 for use as an alpha primitive in Vue. Not the best of solutions, but the only ones I can think of right now. -SMT

smallspace you are right and I thought of that, but is sure is a shame....but maybe someday it will all work together....I love both the programs, Vue and Poser 5, and actually love that little paint can in Bryce, that lets you see parts rendered before going through the whole process for one little look see. That should be on all software, that ability...Sharen

Jelisa had a way to convert the P5 hair to an object file ... create a UV map and import it to Bryce. You should check it out. It's pretty complicated but it works. :) Boni
