THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: September Bryce challenge topic! here it is!

pidjy ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2002 at 5:21 AM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 4:12 AM

ok..here we go again! This month challenge's topic is : "LANDING ON PLANET X" I love sci-fi scenes, and I think that bryce is the perfect prog for the making of an unknown land. I propose to make a vue from the landing of an exploration spaceship on an unknown planet. There may be lifeform on this planet, plants, animals, strange creatures... It's up to your imagination! Imports and post work allowed. I hope you all like this topic! And I just can't wait to see the next entries. cheers! Pidjy.

pmoores ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2002 at 6:42 AM

Just confirming.... are you saying the viewpoint must be from inside the ship looking down or more along the line of looking at the ship as if on the planets surface or does it matter which?

pidjy ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2002 at 8:51 AM

I think that a view from the planet ground of the space ship landing may offer greats images. But a view of the planet from the ship may be good to.. It's up to you. Cheers.

Cool. Just the type of pic that I like. As long as it's on dry-land... ;)

FWTempest ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2002 at 2:07 PM

lol, tuttle, no kidding Sounds like fun, pidgy. This is the kind of pic that I used to do a lot of (once I graduated from the metallic sphere over water phase), and I haven't done one in a while. Hopefully, I've gotten better. We'll see.

Rayraz ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2002 at 3:04 PM

So there needs to be a landing spaceship in the image? Or may it enter the atmosphere (a bit like a firey thing flashing through the sky). I've got a nice idea, but I don't know how well the spaceship will blend in.

pidjy, You musta read my mind. Bikermouse likes this idea. - TJ

catlin_mc ( ) posted Wed, 11 September 2002 at 1:37 PM

There must be a telepathic link in this comunity, I have just started working on a project about this elusive "Planet X" and I'm so happy that this is the topic you have chosen pidjy. Happy rendering everyone. Catlin

bikermouse ( ) posted Wed, 11 September 2002 at 3:01 PM

Catlin, Either that or everyone is listening to the Art Bell show. There are two off the wall inferences that I know about that their authors call theories. 1) the Nemisis 'theory'. a planet or sun comes close to earth every so many million years and thus causes earthquakes and other disasters. There are several varients on this one including the Planet X inference. 2)The 'theory' that there was once a planet between Mars and Jupiter. which blew up. (I like this one.) - TJ

pidjy ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 2:21 AM

Cool !!!!! I'm glad you like this topic! Yes Biker I was heard of those theories.. I think that the second one is more than a theory.. it's a fact! - warm regards -

bikermouse ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 6:40 AM

pidjy, I think most scientists still believe that the planet never formed, but it's one of those things that we won't know for sure until we go there. There is a version of the exploding planet 'hypothesis' that states that the atmosphere of Mars was blasted away due to the exploding planet via meteor collisions. If you want a mercantor map of Mars to play around with and map to a sphere do a google for "the evil dr. ganymede". There is a map of Mars on one of the links from his site. Phobos and Demos too, (but they don't map to a sphere, exactly). - TJ

pidjy ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 7:02 AM

Hey cool TJ.. gotta work out my language so we may talk about those astronomics theories! cheers!

catlin_mc ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 11:13 AM

Here's another one of those theories: There never was a planet X, instead the object that makes up for the excess mass of our solar system is a brown dwarf. The brown dwarf makes our solar system actually a binary system which would account for the amount of damage done when it's orbit brings it close to our Sun again. I like this theory and really what does it matter which is the corret one 'cos when whatever it is comes back to us we won't have a chance to worry about it. Happy thoughts. Catlin

bikermouse ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2002 at 5:18 PM

Catlin, That is the original Nemesis theory. A geologist noticed that extinction cycles appeared to be periodic and came up with the idea of a "wandering" companion star as an explaination. It appears that his time scale was a little off, however, and his 'theory' has thus lost alot of it's following. There is Proxima Centuri however, a dwarf that is about 2 light years out, and I don't think it's path has been discussed much, nor to my knowledge has it been tied in with the origin of the metalic elements of which the theory states that metals originate within a star. When a star 'Novas' the metalic elements are pushed outward to neighboring solar systems. This appears to be an obvious oversight, but I'm not up with the most recent scientific theories - they may be discussing it. "What me worry?" - The Alfred E. Neuman character from Mad Magazine. pidjy, I look forward to it! I'll have to get my decimal places and other notation in order, it appears. On another thread, In a Forum far far away, bloodsong asked about the differences in notation regarding decimal points and I was amazed to see all the differences between countries. Dr. Robert Merrell, my geologic map interpretation teacher, once stated that one should always use terms others can understand, and be ready to clearly define terms you use. I try to do this, but sometimes my language is not clear or I leave something out. Also largely I depend on memory which introduces inaccuracies and omissions. cheers, - TJ - TJ

It appears Earth has another captured moon. Earth's second one is called Cruithne. It was discovered in 1986 and it takes a convoluted horseshoe path around our planet as it is tossed about by the Earth's and the Moon's gravity.

AH! Cool theories and a very nice article on earths third moon. Where can I find more info on Cruithne?

I did googles for the "moons". Here are the URLs for the
"second moon" and "third moon"(J002E3).

And if all the above were not enough, have a look at this description of the Earth's second Moon. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/020913/12/d9jgk.html "The truth is out there". :) Catlin
