Subject: P5 VS P4 or sitting on pins and needles...

I haven't got P5 yet, and after reading all the stuff here concerning P5, all I can say is ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't got P5 yet either but I'm not worried ;) Long time ago, I still remember, when P3 came out there was the same hysteria in the forums about bugs, new content and different workflow. In the end we learned the workarounds and everything went fine. So, relax and prepare to learn the new program ;)

ditto on that sentiment I am considering getting it but after reading a lot of the posts here im not exactly running to get it..........

It's WHEN I'm getting it that concerns me... out here in the Peoples Republic of Blair we're right on the bottom of the list for distribution? H:)

Apparently the Americans are holding it back to bomb Iraq with. (look out Saddam...here's one mother of a weapon of mass destruction) ps even CTRL_ALT_DELETE wont get you out of this one. Sorry bad taste but couldn't resist....now if I had my copy I'd be very good and play quietly in the corner and not sit here making crap jokes...

Try not to worry, you won't be disappointed, aggravated at times, but not disappointed. Sharen

I just emailed CL and asked them to cancel my order if it's still possible (it hasn't been shipped and my card hasn't been charged so I don't see why it wouldn't be) I'll buy the program once everyone and their grandmother aren't having a billion problems with it anymore. I am sure some of the problems have to do with the user rather than the program, but I've seen too many posts about problems that couldn't possibly be the user's fault. I am not paying $240 for frustration and tears...

You may not get it then! ;-) There will always be issues with an application. I pre-ordered it and had it on Tuesday. I had a minor problem with the install, which is taken care of and a problem with the Content CD, which I emailed Starlet about. I've been in the program only a couple of times and played around a bit, but I won't be able to mess with it at length until tomorrow. I'll get back to you then.

Well I was disappointed until someone pointed out to me that the freeze ups, multiplying windows; blank, imoveable windows, missing morphs, crazy cursors, P4 bugs still in Poser 5, slowness, etc, were the result of my own inexperience and lack of knowledge about my computer. But now that I know where the problem lies, I'm fine. Funny, though. My inexperience and lack of knowledge don't seem to effect my other programs. Programs like Photoshop 7, Carrara 1.1, Vue 4, MS Office XP, XP Pro, xFrog, Corel Draw 10, Illustrator 9, and Worms World Party. All of these run so smoothly for me. Odd, isn't it?

Yes Jackson... it is odd, isn't it?! Then again, maybe it isn't at all. I've been "playing" with computers since '86 and sometimes they are very quirky. For instance, I can put Photoshop 6, LW 7.5, and Poser 5 on a fresh machine. Then I add XFrog and XFrog doesn't work right but everything else apparently does. I reformat. I load XFrog and it works fine - then I reload all of the previous programs and they work fine too - and so too does XFrog after everything is loaded. SOMETIMES there is no rhyme or reason (at least on the surface) as to why things go wrong. Some programs just don't like to play nice with other programs. It would be VERY nice for all concerned if everyone thought this way and understood that it may NOT be Curious Labs Poser 5 that is causing the problems. YES, it COULD be, but there are quite alot of people (including myself) who've had NO problems. Fortunately I am capable enough to build my own machines and reformat on a semi-regular basis. Not everything works right the first time - patience and computer knowledge helps. My wife has the same sort of problems often - of course she downloads alot of computer games off the internet and puts alot of what I'd call junk on her machine. And... it very often acts up by freezing, shutting down without notice - and a myriad of other problems. Is it the LAST program she installed? Or something to do with program #6? Who knows. Try a fresh machine and a fresh install of Poser 5 and see if you still have the problems. And yes, many of you can't do that because you either a)don't have the time, b)don't feel like it or c)don't know how. Well, that's fine - just don't expect everything to run perfectly every time. It doesn't work that way.

Have Been INTENSLY using P5 since yesterday and even doing the unthinkable [opening manual] and have had no problems. In case this helps - am running XP Pro with all updates, 1.8g and 512mem with over 11g harddrive free (even after install and leaving P4 on). I do continuously defrag my disk. Everything has been doing fine (hair, face, clothing, material rooms and bringing in P4 stuff) except rendering, does leave alot to be desired (dead slow) but havent reached that part of the manual to tweak it. I virus scanned, defragged and closed all none essential programs before installing and installation and registration went without a hitch. I think you shouldn't cancel the order since you can still use both P4 and P5. DAZ's freebies are even smart enough to find both poser.exe files and lets you install to whichever one you are using. I am happy with new play toy!

Thanx for the +ve cruzan.. boy do I need it. I've just defragged my hard drive in preparation for the arrival of the new infant.(nice clean sectors for the little tyke to lay his head) No nasty virus to give him the sniffles. Just waiting for that final grunt when he lands on the doormat, and I'll be a happy daddy... sleepless nights, tears and triumph.
