Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
oh my. well the ponytail has prefic names. Morphs for the double loop start with "DL" The spiral curls ponytails morphs start with "curls" StraightBob = "SB" Fringy Bangs = "FB" Fall is "Fall" Curly Bangs is "CB" etc I think this happens at times in ProPack. I did report this but I was told by Steve that P5 would not have special support for changing geom. They said it is interesting but not considered an actual feature. They might in the future. I am sorry this happened. You might want to rename the morphs in P4 and save out a new cr2 with names you like and then bring it over to P5. Sorry I can't be of any more help. Anton

that should say "well the ponytail morphs have prefix names"

willdial, Can I suggest a couple of things? One is, you might want to consider posting threads like this with a less alarmist title. 'Alternate Geometries Bug in P5' could have been 'Alternate Geometries Problem in P5' Since AlternateGeom is not, and never was considered a poser feature, but rather, something that came out of subsquent characters released after poser 4, I personally feel that it's pushing things a bit to call it a 'bug'. I can understand your desire to draw attention to these things, but there are already too many 'bug reports' on these forums, a lot of which are nonsense. Secondly, there are links to Curious Labs plastered all over the forums. And I assume, since you bought the program, you know where CL is. Why don't you just mail tech support and ask them? I'm sorry if I sound critical of your post. I'm not trying to minimise your concerns. I just feel that titles with 'bug' in them can be misleading and do no one any good. mac
no because the suit doesn't use morphs. If you make any morphs use specific names like "chest1-heavy" etc. Anton

Mac, I've gotta disagree with you there. If Curious Labs decided to disregard all of the innovations created by this community that have kept Poser 4 a viable and interesting application for years, that's a bug. It's a bug in Curious Labs, maybe, and not the program, but it's a bug. The stupidest thing CL did with this release (other than the registration, depending on your point of view) was to give no built-in support for the creation of MAT files, mention them in the manual while claiming they are a third party innovation and not supported by CL, but still distribute some of them with the product. We won't support it, but we'll distribute it? They understand what we do with the pogram. They undersand our workflow issues. And they ignore it. It's a lack of respect if nothing else that these decidedly useful innovations that kept Poser alive were ignored. Phoenix
Hi phoenix, Sorry you disagree, but maybe that's because I didn't make my point clear enough. My post was not against willdial mentioning the problem. God forbid. Any problems in poser 5 need to be brought to the attention of CL, for sure. My point was that since they HAVEN'T chosen to implement AlternateGeom, it can hardly be a 'bug'. And, more to the point, it could have been described in another way; an issue/problem/hassle/whatever. My post was simply a request for a bit of rational thought before shouting 'bug'. And anyway, what better way to bring these things to the attention of CL than using the tech@curiouslabs mail link? And I completely agree with your POV on MAT files. A scandalous omission on CL's part. mac
Ah, Mac, I get your point now. I guess the problem in this particular case was that until Anton told us he knew it was an intentional omission, we couldn't know if it was an omission or a coding error. On a tangent, I'd be willing to bet things like this will confuse a lot of newer users who never used the program before changing geometries or MAT files or the sundry additions we've become accustomed to. They don't know how these things came to be in the first place and will assume they are a part of the original program. Phoenix
wait; what do you mean they didn't choose to implement alternate geom? alternate geom is what makes the p2 and skeleton hands work. and lets not forget the genital switch. i think alternate geome is used a heck of a lot. don't forget, the male hips have morphs, and if the genital version of the hip and the no-gen version of the hip both have superhero and heavy and thing and muscular morphs.... hey, it's annoying. it isn't really a bug, though.... i mean, p4 is supposed to have the morph dials switch as you swap geometry, but that doesn't really work. so to solve that, they just show all the morphs all the time. it's um, a 'feature.' ;)
Mac, I can see your point about it not being a bug. However, when I first enountered, I assumed that Poser 5 would have that functionality. So in my thinking, that when alternate geom. morphs do not display properly, I thought it was a bug. It was only after I made the post that I learned that Poser 5 never had that functionality. Hopefully you will be able to see why I used the title. Now I can see that problem would be the better title. However, Poser 5 should have morph distinction for the alternate geom. Curious Labs should not have omitted that. In my opinion, Poser 5 should have remained in development a while longer to fix all the problems.

Poser 5 will display all the morphs for a body part with an alternate geometry. For example, Anton's Victoria Fantasy Changing Ponytail uses alternate geometries. The ponytail body part has several several ponytails each with its morphs. Poser 5 shows all the morphs for all the ponytails. Poser 5 does this to all figures using alternate geometries. My question is 'Who do I report this bug to?' Is there an email address I can send this to?
