Subject: Curious Labs to release updater patch for Poser 5

starlet ( ) posted Tue, 24 September 2002 at 4:26 PM · edited Tue, 12 November 2024 at 7:46 AM

Curious Labs is working on the release of an updater to Poser 5. This first updater is currently due out 30th September, and will fix priority content and application issues reported by our customers. The updater will be available as a free downloadable installer from the Curious Labs website. A list of fixed issues will also be posted with the installer. We have received a lot of feedback from our users, for which we are thankful. We will continue fixing issues on a priority basis, and plan to release more updaters on a frequent basis. We thank you for your patience and feedback. Regards, Curious Labs

That's nice, good to see you're on it. Shame that you didn't do this with Poser 4, but it's too late to whine about that now. :) Thanks for the update Starlet, a lot of people are going to be happy - erm, happier now.

Awesome, thanks for the info Starlet. ;)

Cool. Maybe this means this forum won't be filled with quite so much bitching and whining and moaning and wild accusations and eye gouging and gunfire? Nah, I didn't think so.;)

Patience and feedback! Blimey that's polite... Just for the record, the "patience and feedback" has all been coming from the other side of the pond, P5's just started shipping in Europe... Fabulous news by the way, thanks...

"Cool. Maybe this means this forum won't be filled with quite so much bitching and whining and moaning and wild accusations and eye gouging and gunfire?" If the patch fixes the P5 issues, the bitching, et. al., will simply be centered around another subject. 1 week, huh? I'll try to be patient.

Starlet, Thanks for the update. Your courtesy is appreciated. --lb

Cool! Thanks....

PabloS ( ) posted Tue, 24 September 2002 at 6:23 PM

But do we really have to wait until then to find out what will be covered in the patch? I mean, we could get about a week's head start on whining and complaining if you told us now. :-) Pablo

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Tue, 24 September 2002 at 6:31 PM

We can spend the next week speculating about the patch, in addition to complaining. Variety is good. starlet, you'd best tell the website people to shore up the CL server for the coming tsunami on the 30th. It might take more of a beating from us than last time.

"But do we really have to wait until then to find out what will be covered in the patch? I mean, we could get about a week's head start on whining and complaining if you told us now." On the other hand, not knowing has never stopped the whining before. People were complaining about P5 LONG before they had the product to complain about... May I start? I bet even WITH the patch it will not be able to read my mind, and will still do what I tell it to do instead of what I want it to do...

"On the other hand, not knowing has never stopped the whining before. People were complaining about P5 LONG before they had the product to complain about..." Hit me on the side of the head! What was I thinking about! Must have momentarily drifted into another universe.

P5 has only given me that rude "Right Forearm" a few times - otherwise working it hard and enjoying it hugely. Thanks for the patch!

Just remember, everyone. No matter how many problems P5 might have, Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor was much, much worse.

So was I. When I was born, they needed to patch me up a few times. I'm still not quite there. Ready to download.... Q

"Just remember, everyone. No matter how many problems P5 might have, Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor was much, much worse. " LOL, went through that one myself. could have been a great game if it didn't destroy your hard drive when you uninstalled. there's a great option for software... the "you can never uninstall me" option. :)

Thanks for the patch.

So far, I haven't noticed any problems with P5.

Thanks for the news. It's coming a lot sooner than I expected. I'm realistic, and know it won't fix everything I want, but stability would be a huge boon. Thanks, Starlet.

yarp ( ) posted Wed, 25 September 2002 at 1:32 AM

I would also like an update patch with no installer because I remember that P4 first patches didn't install properly on foreigner's machines (I am french) and we add to wait with the zip hand install patch to upgrade our P4. btw No installer doesn't mean no license checking it can be an auto-extractible exe not necessarily a zip file.

Nice to hear... But what about the Mac version? I'm desperately waiting for it....

Kingfisher ( ) posted Wed, 25 September 2002 at 6:15 AM

At this rate I will be able to download the upgrade patch before I get Poser 5. Yes still waiting here in the UK

BrianR ( ) posted Wed, 25 September 2002 at 6:26 AM

Good news...mind you it looks like I'll get the patch before I actually get my copy of P5 :O(

JHoagland ( ) posted Wed, 25 September 2002 at 11:17 AM

Let's see, Poser 5 was released September 12 (for argument's sake) and a patch will be ready on September 30th? Barely 2 weeks after the software's release, a patch is ready? Something doesn't quite add up- usually it takes a long time for comapny to gather all the reports from customers, then decide which issues need to be addressed, then which things should be fixed, then start programming all the changes, and then test all the changes to the code. It makes me wonder if this is an actual "responding to customers' issues" patch or if it's really a "here's what should have been in the final release, but we ran out of time" patch. Let the speculation begin, on what the patch actually fixes! --John

There were a few content files that were packaged incorrectly and it wasn't discovered until after the CD was burned. I'd assume part of the patch addresses this. That part would be easy to correct right away. Also, sometimes a big bug turns out to be a small piece of code that's easy to fix. Then again, sometimes it's a huge re-write. Hopefully this was the former. P5 was shipped 6 September. The CD burns were probably at least a week before that. CL did admit that they knew of bugs before the CD burn, so we're talking at least a month of code hacking to find the bugs. A wide range of bug reports may have helped narrow down the possible areas for troubleshooting as well. (And some of us did troubleshooting on our own and submitted the results to CL.) My opinion: someone finally commented out the section that says, "set crash = yes"

3-DArena ( ) posted Wed, 25 September 2002 at 2:14 PM

Does this mean that the full body morphs are fixed? Will we need to patchif we buy P5 in November? I'm hoping to buy a working version with no need to patch.

It's been delayed until 3 October according to kupa. Lots of fixes, though.
