Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 25 12:38 pm)
Please...dilute away. As for Gaia; I don't have Yuma, but I do have the Yazoo/Yoda derivatives. The Breath Gen textures are worth the price. The only thing you have to be wary of is their size; you will need serious memory to use any of the B-Gen stuff at the supplied resolution. But the details are wonderful, particularly on the hands and feet, and especially the feet, the biggest give away as to a figure's Poser-dom. All of the textures have the flaws and defects you would expect, and none of them use bump maps; all the detail is in the texture itelf.

Gaia is gorgeous and lush, I think you can do more with Asia and Yuma, the problem is, they are so incrediably recognizeable, unless you change them a lot-- which you can-- they are almost a cliche. But I do think the older textures are more down to earth realistic. Breath-Gen- I have everything but the Stephanie and I'll get her eventually-- is more idealistic. I'm putting up a pic in the galleries later-- it's rendering now-- with Gaia on Rumor's morph-- it's stunning in moonlight, but I had to play with the lights to get the best results from it. So, either are terrific, if you are prepared to play with them a bit. Emily
I have Gaia and Edo. SteffyZZ supplies a very full readme on how to lighten textures, create bump maps and so forth. IMHO they are the best textures out at the moment.
DaleB is quite correct that you need a lot of memory to handle the textures - but you can reduce the textures down (using Photoshop or similar) to make things a bit snappier.
The fun come when using Edo, Gaia, various mesh heavy objects
(cars and stuff) and a some lights. And you thought Poser 5 was slow rendering ;-)

I have the Asia, Noa, YYY-complete and Gaia. As for realism, either texture will do, they are all fabulous, but only the B-gen textures (Gaia etc..) have a more natural tinted skin, the others (here at Rosity) are quite greenish. If you don
t mind messing a bit with the colors of the textures, I`d opt for the YYY-complete package as it is extensive and for both Vicki and the Milgirls.
Currently I use Gaia and AmyMarie for Stephi, Christina and Bliss for Vicki as base textures....
For easy WIP rendering I downsized the head textures to 1024x1024, the body textures to 1500x1500.

I've got Yuma. It's an excellent texture except for the strong highlights in the face (mainly in the cheeks) - because of them the face always seems to look the same no matter which morphs I use. Easy enough to fix, though, if you know Photoshop. And the new textures... I've got Greta (the Stephanie texture) and I noticed that with some tweaking it fits Michael very well so I didn't bother buying Leo which seems to be pretty much the same texture with some minor differences.
Anything by SteffyZZ is amazing. I've got Leo, Iago, the Kids, and don't forget the most excellent texture Edo (available in the MP here). The Kids textures look great on Vicky, and I use Leo on Stephanie (I like the low highlights). I wish she'd do more for Mike. Even when money is tight, I'll come up with a way to get a new Mike texture from her. When I finally get paid for my current contract, I'm getting Yuma, just for the freckles.
Leo is the same as Greta? Scary! :-) I have Leo and have found the texture to be very versitile, if a bit lacking in the body hair department, but I knew that when I bought it. Leo applied to AprilYSH's version of the P4Man (which accepts Mike textures) completely un-dorks him. For the reccord, I had to e-mail back and forth with Stefiana over some server problems, and she was very understanding, professional, and charming. Just wanted to note that. Finally, we Italians are not "green." We are olive. :-)
I work with Italians, neither of them are green, nor are they olive, they're sort of "pink-drab" :P But I've got Yuma, Aisa, Edo & Gia. Edo and Aisa are a little green, IMO. But Yuma is great, she's got freckles, "mmmmm freckles..." :) But Gia is just incredible, it's the most photoreal texture I've ever seen. Especially under global lighting. I honestly don't think anyone makes better textures. later jb
Wow! Thanks all! Eowyn, queri, maxarcher, praxis, xoxonostle, pdxjims, ssshaw, narsil, restif, and anyone I missed. I did not even know there was an AmyMarie-better do a search under SteffyZZ! I am most interested in realistic renders- the greenish tinge you mention would be easy to fix in Photoshop. Gaia seems a bit more "neutral" do to the absence of freckles. Catherina Prezak (cant remember the new name) has a Free female face test texture out that is pretty amazing-I've been playing with that with Blackheart's Ki, and Selene bump maps (currently my most lifelike), I will have to take the plunge and get Yuma and Gaia. Hmmn, now I am wondering if I could adapt them to work with Katia (Attractive morph character from Dcort's Dina). So far she renders as more "real" than V2 WITH Realeyes1.5 in Lightwave Radiosity-but her default texture is a little bland-looks like a real person with heavy facial coverage. I will see if I can remember my OLD website URL so I can post the render.... Eric
MaxxArcher, "Currently I use Gaia and AmyMarie for Stephi, Christina and Bliss for Vicki as base textures" ...how would you rate those compared to each other? Anyone else willing to rank them? I have Asia (who doesn't?) and Bliss (and Oxanna) and a few Catharina textures (and a few based on hers)... I've had Christina and Yuma on my wish list forever now, but hadn't taken the plunge yet. From what I've seen so far, Stefy and Catharina are at the top of the field, but I'm wondering how close the others are?

...I guess I'm asking... If you could only buy one other (aside from what I have) photo-Vicky-based texture, which would it be?

I love Stefy's work, as well as some of the other photo textures I have but for the sake of saying it, just want to note that many hand-done textures have their own advantages. Matter of aesthetics, I guess. I don't always want my Poser people to look "real." I like the computer-y look, when it's done well. Sometimes hand-drawn textures can take on colorful lighting very well without making people look like zombies. Lately I've learned to love Posette, after ignoring her for too long. The point being that complexity and verisimilitude aren't always the goal. But you knew that. :-)

Hi Wondering if anyone has used the SteffyZZ's amazing Gaia texture? It seems (from the webpage Zs3D.com) that it might even be more lifelike than the frequently lauded Asia or Yuma. Anyone have them to compare?? Thanks, Eric PS: Sorry to dilute the Poser5 reports)
